Greetings Elsewheres. I'm starting this thread hoping it will be of some use to our Wrimos around the state who may not know where all the great writing spots are in their local area. If you know of a great place to write that is reasonably friendly to insane aspiring novelists, reply to this thread with the following:

City/ Location:
Place:
Wifi: (Y/N)
Good for: (solitary Wrimos, groups, or both)
Type of establishment: (Coffeehouse/ library/ pub) (I would love to find a good local pub to write in-- I'd feel like James Joyce, minus the eye patch and being a guy.)
Any other cool info, or why you like it:

Here's an example:

Location: Crestview Hills, KY (Northern Kentucky)
Place: Panera
Wifi: Yes, but limited around lunch time
Good for: Solitary Wrimos or groups at non peak hours
Type of Establishment: Coffeeshop
Why I like it: I once had a 3000+ word day there, starting early in the morning and finishing in the afternoon with a virtual write in. That was back before they limited wifi to 2 hours, but that also might not be such a bad thing, as then I couldn't surf the web doing "research".

City/ Location: Maysville, Kentucky
Place: The Last National Banque
Wifi: Yes, most of the time
Good for: Unless it's the weekend, it's good for solitary Wrimos and groups (though I've written there on the weekends as well)
Type of establishment: Bar

It's a really low-key bar with more of a pub atmosphere. There are plenty of sockets for your laptop and plenty of empty tables most nights. You'll get the occasional drunk stranger bugging you about what you're writing but, other than that, you'll usually be left alone. Plus, the drinks are pretty cheap (and the bartenders don't mind if all you want is a soda).

Ooooo. This sounds wonderful. Looks like a Road Trip to Maysville is in order some Saturday afternoon. That's about the only time I could get out that way. (Or maybe a Tuesday-- are they open Tuesday afternoon/ evening? what are the hours?)

Thanks for the tip, backwards.girl. If I can get out there, I'll post a Write in time on the Regional Calendar and post notice here.

Hey Hob,

You can go ahead and make the kick off party at the North Branch of the Hardin Co. Public Library official! We will be meeting on Oct. 31 from 12-2 pm!

We're located across the street from Noth Hardin High School in Radcliff. If anyone has any questions, they can contact me on here.

By the way, the library is a great place for write-ins! Though I might be biased because I work there =p It's usually pretty quiet (in the morning and about 2 hours before we close are usually our slowest points) We have two tables that seat 4-6 people, computers available, and a conference room (has to be scheduled in advance) We are a good spot for both groups and solitary wrimos! We do not allow any food or drinks though (I know us wrimos need our caffeine fix!) so that might be a turn-off. We also have wifi now!

Barnes & Noble is another favorite, though the seating is limited and the books can be distracing! I do love that they play music overhead though, that really helps! Plus, who can resist yummy apple cider?!

If I get wind of any other places in my area I'll let you all know! =)

Ugh, I TOTALLY forgot to reply to your reply, hobgoblinn! The Banque is awesome but the Pub (which is actually called something else but everyone calls it The Pub) is great as well. And they open at 1pm, every day. I would love to host/arrange a write-in in Maysville, as I don't have a vehicle to go any other place and I haven't gotten to experience a write-in before. Plus, the Pub is only a few blocks from my house and we can force my husband to cook us some awesome snacks!

Hey, Amy.

gryphon and I (and perhaps Wee Hob if he's available) would love to come out some Saturday afternoon and have a write-in with you and anyone else you can scare up. Can't be the 7th, as there's a Write In already scheduled in Taylor Mill. But do you have a preference for another weekend? Let me know. And others who see this, let us know if you're close to Maysville and would be game for a meet up! I just got my packet 'o ML goodies in the mail, so I have some cool stickers to share.

ps-- would this establishment allow a 14 year old boy in, if accompanied by his parents? He's in the young writer's program.

Hey Amy and hobgoblinn!

I'm in Maysville as well and would LOVE to meet up for a write-in. The only trouble is my work schedule; it changes every week and my days off aren't set. We're down to three people, so it's tough to ask for days off but I might be able to work something out as long as I know in advance. My usual days off are Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I know that's probably tough to work with, but I do hope that I'll be able to meet up with you guys a few times in November. I've never known anyone else around here who has done Nano, so this would be a complete blast for me. The extra support would be much-needed, too.

Just checking since someone informed me KY is in two time zones-- is it 12-2 Eastern or Central? And you do mean in the afternoon, right, not the middle of the night?

Please let me know so I can get it on the calendar right. And come say hello in the chatroom, where I will be waiting sadly with no Sunny D or Doughnuts to keep me company.....
