Howdy!
I'm from Austin and have done (and won) NaNoWriMo for the past three years, so I have some connections with the ML there, and she told me about this event in downtown Bryan on the morning of October 24. It's a sort of writers gathering where there will be speakers and all sorts of things just for folks who love writing. I will probably be giving a short talk about NaNoWriMo as well, so I'd encourage you all to come out for this.

More information can be found at: http://writersbarcamp.org/

And as a side note, I know we don't have an official ML here in College Station, and I know at least one of you tried to apply but was rejected. Since I keep in contact with Austin's ML, I'd be happy to work with someone else interested in being unofficial MLs here. I know I will be pretty busy now that I'm a freshman in college, but if anyone would like to work to plan write-ins or publicity, that would be great! I only know that I will most likely be back in Austin the night of the 31 to visit my family and go to the countdown/midnight write. But we should try to organize some times during November for fellow wrimos to meet up!

Thanks and Gig 'Em!

I've already RSVPed. Looks like this is an open spaces kind of thing. For those who haven't been, these are great things to go to.

I'm hoping that both the NaNoWriMo and blogging topics happen.

I'd like to see a lot of the BCS NaNoWriMo gang out for this as a kind of pre-kick-off.

This does sound like a lot of fun - but is the buffet paid for, or do we need to bring cash?

As far as I can tell, the event is completely free. However, you should RSVP on the site so they have a good idea of how many people to expect.

How are we going to identify each other when we get there? Wear our NaNo handles on name tags? I could wear my robes...

Wearing NaNo handles on nametags isn't a bad idea. It's worked before at events I've been to. I'm really tall (6'6") so it should be easy to spot me... ;)

Maybe pin a little NaNo logo on yourself near your nametag (I'm assuming there will be nametags there).

This was a lot of fun, and we should all definitely do this next year. There was a very good, if somewhat disheartening, presentation on traditional publishing vs self-publishing, a very good talk about finding an agent, and much more. Thanks to Stimulating-Conversation.com for putting it together!

I'd planned to go, but ended up having to miss it. Anyone else get to go? I saw some the pics they posted on Facebook that there was a NaNo Flyer, but did anyone speak about it? What kind of attendance was it? Any good speakers?

That NaNo flyer was probably the one I brought; I gave a presentation/speech about NaNoWriMo to an audience of about five people, but honestly, there weren't that many people there overall. Each session had about 3-10 people in it. It was still good for networking purposes, and the woman who hosted it, Renée Giroux, gave probably the best speech about everything a writer should have concerning marketability (a website/blog, bio, media kit, etc.).
