So, I've recently figured out the magic of Twitter. As I get updates from the actual heads of NaNo, I was thinking, what if we had a Twitter for So. Il? We could have everyone who is interested sign up. They even have the ability to send little updates to your cell phone, which I think would help TREMENDOUSLY with people. If we were to update our little Twitter page the day of all our write-ins with the time and place, that way people would get a little reminder half way through the day that there is a write-in. I have a feeling that people who might otherwise forget could have that little *ding!* reminder, we might get alot more people at the write-ins. Just a thought. I'd be willing to set it up and update it so if anyone has any feedback, post it here so I can know if anyone would actually use it or find it useful at all.

Dedikated -- you're reading my mind!

I set up a Twitter account (www.twitter.com/seanjjordan) the other day just for this purpose.

It's my understanding that we can do a hashtag like #SoILnanowrimo and do updates that way so that multiple people can update. The other alternative is that we can set up a twitter account for the region.

I don't know a lot about Twitter -- what do you think?

Haha nice! I'm not sure about the multiple people updating thing. I didn't even know we could do that! XD haha. So, I can try to invenstigate that if you'd like, or if you just want to finish that little project and then let us all know when it's up, either way is cool.

The only thing with the multiple people updating is that its very possible to have alot of people updating for the same event. Maybe if the deputies could be in charge of making sure that at least one person has updated for their regional event for that day and then if that hasn't been done doing it themselves.

Does that even make any sense? Haha

Katie -- maybe we could set up an account for official updates and then use the hashmarks for people who want to tweet in their word counts and such. That might be the best way to approach it. That way, you can look at the feed for the official profile if you want to see where and when things are happening, and then you can look at the hashmarked feed if you want to see how everyone's doing.

I'll email you privately with more info.

Ok, so as far as an officially Twitter goes, I have one set up under www.twitter.com/soilnanowrimo. That is the one that I think we should use for the updating as far as events go.

And while on there, I looked into the hashmark philosophy. As far as I could tell, basically the hashmark idea is a way for people to make sure their tweets show up in searches. I could not figure out a way to have a sort of side Twitter that allows multiple people to be able to update onto one Twitter. I checked for a while, but maybe I'm still missing something. Does someone else want to look just in case?

So, if there is a way to let everyone know we have an official Twitter and to sign up so that they can get updates to their cell phones, that would be great. It'd be really nice to have all of our members signed up to get updates and maybe that will boost our write-in attendence!

The closest to a join all channel there is is on Twibes. Though you still have to follow the group and it's essentially twitter. The problem with it is that you have to go to the Twibes website to check on your group unless you just follow everyone else. So the easiest manner is the hashmark search.

Of course the SIMPLEST way to follow all the local fun on twitter and get reminders, is everyone who's on twitter, share their info and follow each other. Sure you get other senseless chatter, but isn't that what Twitter is all about? Here is me in case you want to add me http://twitter.com/AllenWiggs I'll start following anyone else who puts up their twitter account, since it's the social network I check the most.

Just a side note:

Remember to sign up to have Twitter messges sent to you phone through txt! It'll really help remind you to come to write-ins, meetings, get info, or just stay motivated because the Twitter will be updated with little inspiring or butt-kicking messages throughout November :)

I love Twitter and I think having one for the Southern Illinois region is a good idea since it's so easy to check and reply to. I'm @gwape if anyone wants to follow, though I tweet about a lot of really inane things too.

So Twitter has just added a new feature Tweetdeck had ages ago. You can now follow a specific group on your feed without cluttering up the rest of your page or mixing up your followers. If you go to http://twitter.com/seanjjordan/nanowrimo you can see the list of our region that is already up and running. Just click follow and you can follow the list and all the NaNo fun from there. Though Sean should add himself to it if it's possible (I have yet to experiment with the feature too much). Or you can create your OWN list of whoever. This does solve the issue of following just the area and having a shared blog/twitter thingy.
