Hey guys,
Any college students or otherwise living in the Loop/Downtown or surrounding area interested in some weekly write-ins? I would be more than willing to look around to some cafes in the area and see who might welcome us :D
You don't have to live in the Loop to come-- just thought I'd put it out there and see how many people might be interested.
Let me know!

I go to school in the South Loop. I'd be interested, provided they fit into my schedule! :)

If you do any daytime loop write-ins, the Starbucks at Lake & LaSalle is right by the Clark/Lake El stop, has a lot of space, and is right by my work (within a block). I can bring you all swag stickers as well as joining in for an hour or so ;)

Count me in. I can do lunch writins. I'd have about 40 minutes, since I'd need to walk over there from Wacker and Adams.

Woe for being on the South Loop. By the time I got up there at lunch, I'd only have about 10 minutes before I'd have to head back to work... the trains at lunch time SUCK. (Well, they suck all the time, but most especially in the middle of the day.)

Anyone near Union Station want to do a lunch-time write-in?

Sure. I'm at Adams and Wacker, across the river from Union Station.

I'm at Clinton and Van Buren.

Actually, I could probably bus somewhere closer to the actual loop, if anyone knows buses downtown? Otherwise, I'll probably hang out in the food court at Union and try to eat my salad and type my novel at the same time :D.

If you use GoogleMaps, they have a public transportation feature which works extremely well and incorporates buses as well as trains :D

If you ever want to have a mini lunch write in at the Union food court, I would be willing to come hang out :D It's not too far from my dorm and I rarely have class before afternoon.

So, it's looking like lunch time works best for most people? About lunches on Tuesday? I don't have any classes so I can chill with whoever comes along :D

Yeah, Google Maps tells me to take the Blue Line, which I suspected. Sigh. If the train would just run ON TIME in the middle of the day, I could come for half an hour or so, but I've waited 20 minutes for a train during lunch before, and I can't risk it.

I'll probably do Union a couple of days a week... I can get there in about 7 minutes, so I'll probably do a 15 minute word sprint, eat frantically for 15 minutes, and do one more 15 minute sprint before dashing back to work. I can probably squeeze in 2k words in a lunch break, that way :).

What about after-work write-ins in the Loop? I know most people just want to go home, and I do have one or two after-work write-ins on the calendar at the Au Bon Pain at Michigan/Adams, but I have no problem hanging out at an Sbux for an hour in the evenings (MWF, because I have class on T/Th) if anyone else wants to.

I can do Mondays. Wednesdays is the Evanston Writers Workshop (which is accessible by CTA, if anyone is interested). I could intermittently do Fridays. There's SBUX, of course, but also Chipotle - yum! :)

I work at Wabash & Jackson - so I would love an after-work loop writein. I could try a lunch one - but it'd have to be pretty close to my job.

Barnes & Nobles in DePaul Central has a lot of seating, though you can only get wifi if you have a depaul username & pw.

Ok, since it seems like we have half a dozen different times, days, and places, I'll make up a tentative agenda. You tell me what you can make and we'll go from there, yeah?

Mondays: I can't do any write-ins, unless they're early in the mornings. I have about seven hours of class on Mondays. Sorry. If you guys want to set something up, go ahead :D

Tuesdays: Lunch write-in at the Starbucks at Lake and LaSalle, 11-3-- I've got all day on Tuesdays off, so if you just want to pop in at whatever time and see what's the happy-haps, come on over! I will be there :D

Wednesday: 12:30 - 2:30: Every other Wednesday afternoon, I head out to Indiana with Jeff (savvra) (although this might change), so this is tentative. To accommodate those nearer to the library (someone's at Wabash and Jackson?), the University Center (525 S. State) has a Panera Bread with a lot of seating and free wi-fi.

Thursdays: This is also tentative because every other Thursday, I am usually headed back from Indiana, lol. But chances are, I can make it-- I'm usually back by elevenish. How about Thursdays at Union? I can be there from, 11-2:30. Where exactly around Union? The food court?

Fridays: I can't throw a lunch write-in on Fridays (booo class) but after work? How about we just do after-work, Au Bon Pain on Michigan/Adams on Fridays?

Thoughts? I think this accommodates everyone who's posted so far in some fashion. Let me know if you need a change and I'll see what we can do <3

I'd like to do after-work write-ins on Wednesdays if possible, because we don't have any in-person write-ins scheduled for those days. Fridays we do, though (but Google Calendar is apparently down right now, so I don't have the actual dates), but a couple of those are already downtown.

I definitely second Tuesdays at the Sbux at Lake/La Salle, and Thursdays at Union! Would 12:30-1:30-ish be okay for the Union Station thing? Or maybe 1-2, since it's a tad less crowded then? I can take lunch any time between noon and 2, so it doesn't really matter to me.

I can't do any middle of the day write-ins but I would love to set up some afternoon loop stuff. Similar location as what sparrowzingly suggested but perhaps starting sometime between 4pm and 5pm? I'd be very interested in doing this on a Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Okay, since I have to skeddadle out of the Loop most nights to hit up other write-ins, I'm just going to decide when/where I can be. So if anyone wants to join me, I'll be at these places/times in November:

Wednesday, from 6:15 to 8, probably at the Au Bon Pain on Michigan, unless someone knows of a Starbucks in the south/southwest downtown area.

Thursdays, 1:00-2:00 PM (ish), Union Station food court, somewhere in the back corner against the side of the Pizza Hut, where ever I can find an open table in that area.

Times are tentative because I have to get to-from work. But if anyone wants to join me at those places/times, lemme know. I'll try to wander up to the Lake/LaSalle lunch write-in if I can!

i'm around the jackson stop on mondays and wednesdays, and spend some of my time hanging around depaul central during late lunch times... say, about 1:30 and later. if anyone's in the area around that time, let me know! the internet can be pretty distracting for me when i'm trying to write, but if we're in depaul and you want access, i could sign you in. I've never done a write in but I really want to give it a try. This is my third attempt at NaNoWriMo, but this year I am determined to do it! I work and live in the loop so keep me posted on lunchtime and after work write ins, Im gonna try and make it to a few of them. Thanks!

So, here's my latest plan: for the first week of November, I am going to go to all of the places that I listed above. If there is a decent turn-out, I'll keep going. If not, whatevs.

Also, if you want to add a place/time that suits you, throw it on up there. Maybe other people will be interested? :D

If you're in the area at the times listed and you have the ability, please come! Especially if you've never been to a write-in. The forums are awesome, but it's even cooler to see the people who are just as nuts as you are in person! I've made some really amazing friends at write-ins and I can't wait to meet you :D

Hi Everyone,

I'm coming from the UIC/Halsted stop on the blue line and am free at lunchtime or later (probably way later, like 'til 2am.)

Looking forward to it all,
bwl

As of right now, I can make every single one of these for at least part of the time. That might change because I'm job hunting right now and if I get offered a shift that conflicts with my writing schedule I have to take it. That's life, I guess. But I'll cross that bridge if/when I come to it. As of right now, I'm dedicating myself to every write-in that makes sense. I live near Sox park so I can easily hop a train to the loop, or drive to farther out locations. I figure I'll plan to attend everything, then adjust myself accordingly when I know how my schedule is going to change. =D

I work in the building with the Lake/LaSalle Starbucks. I'd love a lunchtime write-in there.

I love the idea of lunchtime write-ins. I work at Lasalle/Monroe, so I'll definitely be able to make it up to the Starbucks write-ins, and I'll probably make it over to a few of the others, too. (After work I'm a lazy reclusive bum, though.)

I'll be at the Willis Tower Starbucks next Tuesday, 11/03/2009 (Election Day) at 12:00 noon. If enough of us show up, there's seating just outside the Starbucks and also chairs upstairs by the Argo Tea kiosk.

Come join me!

Barring a work emergency (which happens about 50% of the time) I'll be at the Willis Tower Sbux write-in on Tues.

Me and my co-worker will both be there Tuesday, most likely. However, we both take late lunches, so we'll probably be there from, like, 12:45-1:45 or something, if anyone else takes a late lunch! We'll try to over-lap you all by a little bit :D

Oh wow, 12:45 is a late lunch? (I'm only just starting mine now. (-;). I'm glad there are other late lunchers though. I'll be there sometime between 12:30 and one.

Should we just say we'll start the Tues./Willis Tower write-in at 12:30 instead of 12? Doesn't matter to me. Catherine?
