...just curious.
And will you be basing it in India? And it is fantasy will it be mythology based?
I want to do a Roald Dahl-esque children's story, since it's just... so fun!
So what's everyone else doing? and How're you prepping for it?

Wow, that's an ambitious project! I would never know how to write 'like' xyz.
I am writing about India, although a large part of the story is set in USA.
It is about children, but not exactly for children. I am not sure if it is even meant for publication, more for the story that bubbles within, crying to be set free on paper.
What about you? Is your RD-esque story set in India?

But no harm in trying, no?
Well, the thing is, I have this habit of diluting characters and situations... until all I have is a big sloppy mess - hoping to break out of it this year. Dahl is just a point of reference, I know I'm nowhere close.
Yep, I am basing it in Chennai, easier to write about what you know and all that. I'm still hunting around for a plot though... Yours all planned out?
Heh. For me, every nano is like a mental house cleaning of sorts :)

I love Roald Dahl works. I hope you get out what you have in your mind.
Either ways i don't think i will be writing about any serious issues. This story i plan to write was actually sketched out a long time back but i never really sat down to start writing. Its basically semi fantasy and drama. Its not going to be based in India. I don's see how the protagonist be from India considering the plot.
Best of luck to you guys.

I'm rather new to the country. I'm an American fresh out of college and am working as an English teacher up near Dharmsala.
Although I wrote full original fantasty novels my last three times, I'm kind of bending the rules this year and finishing up one of my fanfiction stories that has been hanging over me for a long time.
Teaching has given me a lot of free time that I didn't have as a student, so I'm looking forward to being able to finish my NaNo more comfortably this year.
Good luck all!

Hallo ppl ;)
I'll probably try to pen a new take on Dracula thats been haunting me (pardon the pun) for quite some time.
Need to get my outlines straightened if I'm to reach anywhere.
Anyways, see you around.

Hi everyone :)
I had quite a detailed story (a full blown series actually) idea in my head about a couple of years ago - plot, characters, names everything but I never got around to writing it. I put it on the backburner and since then have only written non-fiction, poems or fanfiction. This time I thought I would at least give my story a start with Nanowrimo but I've been thinking about it lately and I think I may have outgrown it. *sigh*
I always thought that would be my first book and now I can't decide whether to plough on with it or try to come up with an all new plot before November 1st.

toying with the idea that it is time to try a children's fantasy. The muse has not responded with anything, though...
but November is still a day fews away, and the end of November is comfortably away

I really can't wait to get started. I just finished all 11 chapters of rewrites I needed to do to start on my NaNo at chapter 12. Fwew. To answer the question (with some embarassment), it's a Sailor Moon fanfiction that I started some 8 years ago and finally want to get it out of my hair.
As to why I'm in India, there's a program at my college in the US that sends graduates around Asia to teach for two years. The position here seemed like it would be an adventure, so I applied for it. I've only been here two months so far, but I'm enjoying it.
Best of luck with last minute-plotting.

Hi,
THis is my first time with Nanowrimo, I havent thought of a plot yet. I began two stories long ago but I am not sure I want to use them here. Probably will think of something fresh in this week and be ready by 1st of November.
All the best to co-participants,

Hello everyone,
Here's hoping for a fun and writing filled month!
As to what I am writing Chittz, that's just the whole problem. I am not writing. In fact, I am doing everything but writing LOL. You and I seem to be in the same boat and like your tag line says - its all about procrastination :).
That said, what I hope to write is a realistic, optimistic story of a person's struggle to find meaning and self. And of course, :) it is going to be the next bestseller LOL...that is when I write it. Unfortunately, I really have no clue as to how I am going to do it. I am hoping that the pure "all writing, no editing" spirit of November will result in reams of text from which hopefully I can find some that will help me conjure up a story :)

To be honest, haven't got a clue. Wrote an extended short story for Legend Press and I don't feel like working on that anymore. Then started on few plot lines, but after writing about 1000 words or something figured they don't have the sustainability. Searching for a brilliant idea to strike me before Sunday. Not able to zero down on the protagonist's voice. Complete and an utter bummer I tell you. Will just have to wing it I guess...

First time is always the hardest for anything, but I'm really excited to get started! i think i'm going to take a kind of unusual approach. Sort of like "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, not sure how it will work out, but i am hopeful! fantasy is always the most fun for me to write!
Hope it helps and good luck everyone!

that sounds like fun! I'm writing a sequel to last year's novel so we're going to see how that goes. Takes place mostly in Libya and the Sahara but i'm still looking for a place to find my ArchAngel.

Alright, Ive this crazy idea of resurrecting minor characters from Mahabharata and putting them into current contexts. It would most probably be called Lesser Heroes, still working out the details!

Well, since I have an exam tomorrow, and might not be able to do nano this year, I figured I'd drop everyone a hello (Well, if you don't see the logic in there, its okay, I don't either)
ba_satish,
Welcome, and may you become addicted to the madness as well! Muahahaha! (I know not whether that be curse or benediction...)
nikhillondhe,
Coolness. I tried genre-hopping last time - different genre everyday kind of thing. I did not succeed (I got stuck within fantasy) but I did finish the novel. Anyhow, multiple plot lines are always fun - get to experiment with a whole bunch of crazy characters. Best o' luck with that!
JediDiplomat,
Thank you for donating.
Archangel in Libya/Sahara sounds funky. What was your first novel about?
the.black.prince,
Please don't make those vampires insipid pastly anemic-looking teenagers as well, pretty please? :P
Kanksha,
Any luck with that plot? I say wing it! That's what I always say. And I usually wake up in December with a bad noveling hangover, so probably not the best advice :D
Swapna,
Good to see you back, don't know if you'd remember me from '07 :) Children's stories are so fun no? Challenging, but ridiculous amounts of fun!
sudz_amigo,
My nano novel was something like that. Except that my characters didn't do much except mope around in coffee houses * ashamed *
Jenna,
You are teaching in Himachal Pradesh? wow. Language barrier not an issue?
And the best with the fanfic! May it exorcised from your muse! :D
Rustyneurons,
Um, I hope this november will clear up at that rust and make those neurons all sparkly and clean :D My best for the madness, hopefully us plot-less people will come up with * ahem * Character driven narratives and all that.
Juno. 13,
Aha! A fellow procrastinator! We can be procrastinator-buddies! :D
Yes, I know that feeling. All my book start with with the ambition of exploring (and discovering) the underlying philosophy of life, and finding the meaning of life, universe and everything, but alas! I just end up with a bunch of characters either fixated on weak coffee or flying horses! Bleddy underachievers!
Zenmaster,
Don't worry about the plot. really. If you don't have it as yet, just start writing and it will turn up. My plot this year:
Chikku is a 10 year old boy with really big ears. He's quite an ordinary boy, with a never-say-die spirit - but unfortunately for him, his only talent is that he can waggle his really, really big ears.
That's all I've got. Don't be bummed about it, the important thing is to start.
Ship50,
Sounds fabulous. Mythology based or ghost/specter type things?
Imagine.Dream.Create,
I hadn't heard of that book, so googled it. Now its on my 'to read' list. Sounds much like George Orwell, no? My best for the dystopian novel :)

Joining in really late but... I'm writing this boarding school story. It's a dark romance/satire/drama...uh, thing. It's not set in India though. The plot just wouldn't fit. I kind of hate the story but I have the outline and everything and it feels like it needs to be written down! I love what you all are writing about! They're all really unique and amazing :)

I am writing a social story about a boy from his childhood till marriage proposal at 45 years of age. How he passed his life being unmarried will be the theme. His strain relation with his mother. The inactivity of his parents and the agony in my hero's mind. He lived a life of fish on surface. Inching slowly towards death.
Good luck to all Wrimo participants.
thanks
