Greetings to the heroic writers of the Eastern Cape, who will brave vast regions, mulitple towns, insane MLs in the quest to save the world of fiction by producing new novels.

Once again we have two MLs, moonblue in Grahamstown and David Seven in PE. We will be having kick off parties in both towns, probably 25 October and 1 November. If people have preferences about which party should happen when give us a shout.

Otherwise, watch this space.

Better still, start filling it up with words.

Sounds great! This time I'll actually be able to make it as my baby is purring along perfectly.

Not sure which place I'll be able to go to though - I may not have been paid by the 25th of October so that could be a bit tough but we'll see...

OMG. It's nearly here isn't it?

*runs around in a flurry trying to come up with storylines*

May we assume from the absence of response that no-one has a problem with either of these dates?

What-ho, Eastern-Kippers!

Yes, I'm back, and I'm going to give last year's story another go. This time I have a trusty external hard drive onto which I shall back up this beast.

...

OR

I'm going to write one based on ideas from random generators and the ever-wonderful dare thread.

We'll see.

Maybe I'll combine the two, and link them up in a dazzling display of flawed logic at the end.
*shrug*

I'm writing an exam on the 2nd of November, but can probably make the Gtown kick off party if it's on the 25th October.

Bring on the were-watermelons! And the brownies in mugs!

:D

Oh no! I thought exams started 6 November. So much for the official university year planner. I know the students who live near me seem to party extra hard during swot week, so figured that would be a safe time for our party.

OK peeps, here's the idea.

We will be holding the PE kick-off party on SATURDAY 24 OCTOBER 2009, and Grahamstown will be kicking off a week later. Exact date to be advised. (Probably the Saturday 31 October, but might be a week-night)

Does anyone in PE have a preference for late morning (11-ish) or early afternoon (2-ish)?
I am thinking late morning is better.

Late morning sounds better for me too. I don't have any preference either way though.

So where'll we be meeting up and who's going to pitch up? Remember some of us are a little directionally challenged :)

Port Elizabeth Kick Off party.

Saturday 24 October 2009.
11h00
Mugg & Bean, Walmer Park, PE

The venue is a coffee shop/restaurant so you can buy an early lunch/late breakfast and stock up on caffeine for the journey ahead.

I will be contacting all the writers in PE to check they got the message, but pass it along if you know of anyone. NaNo lists are still not complete, and some people might slip through our net.

RSVP is not essential, but it would be appreciated. Feel free to bring a last minute convert with you. :-)

I just thought to share this since it's amusing. After our Grahamstown invasion last year, my mom has grown increasingly curious about the Cow Moon Theory experience to the point where, if (no WHEN!) we have our next invasion, she's grabbing a novel and coming with! :-D

ML = Mad Lunatic. It's the technical term for people who have too much time on their hands, and not enough common sense to come in out of the rain.

Also referred to as Municipal Liaisons, these mad individuals are experienced (*snort*) wrimo participants who are responsible for looking after a region, and the writers in it. Since Africa :: South Africa is an entire region on its own, we have four MLs working in South Africa.

If you go to the front page of the SA Regional Forums you will see our names. As you see from the opening message here, EC has two MLs stationed. Davidseven in PE and Moonblue in GHT.

MLs organise Kick-off functions, write-ins, meet-ups, watch over the forums and the writers and give them encouragement etc. We're also available for any help you need or queries you have. All the MLs are responsible for the whole country, but we two will be particularly focused on EsCape, especially with regard to meet ups and such like. You should be getting an e-mail message from the MLs shortly.

In our spare time, we also try to write our own novel, and occasionally work and/or pretend to have a family.

It's a dirty job, but at least the pay is non-existent.

Grahamstown events -

how would Sat 31, in the afternoon work for people? At Cow Moon Theory?

We will have weekly write ins on SUnday afternoons at Cow Moon Theory (those chocolate brownies were a major motivating force in my novel writing last year:) If there is any interest I will also set up an evening write in during the week. Let me know.

David Seven and I thought it might be nice to have a combined half way party, ie a chance for our coastal cousins to invade Grahamstown. If you go to the facebook page you can see pics of last year's meet up which was very cool.

TGIO will depend on who is still around. The down side of so many student wrimos is that so many of you have left town by the end of November. Perhaps those of us still here could invade PE and have a combined TGIO party.

I won't be around, yet again. I get on a bus and chuck up to Vanderbijl on the 29th.

Which means I have 28 days to hit 50K....... :-S

For 15 hours, you mean. Depending on whether the bus doesn't break and whether they don't show yet another Olsen twin movie. That crap drives me insane and I'll probably spend most of the time then banging my head against the window.

I'd love to, but we'll have to see if we can arrange transport or something first. I'll definitely be available, I just don't know whether I'll be capable. ;)

Also, 31st of Oct works for a kickoff :D Will only make the GHT one as trekking to PE is a little far for an Easlondonner. :)

I've moved my oral exam to the third (I'm sneaky like that) and so will definitely be there for the kick-off party on the 31st. Because, well...

I am a tenant of Cow Moon Theory at the moment. I live in a bathroom in the back. No, really, I do. So, bring your lovely selves to my living room! :)

And I'll probably be there for the TGIO party too, as my flight home is on the 4th of December, and I'm moving into my new digs on the 1st.

Walking to campus today I saw loads of NaNo posters with the little taggy bits ripped off. SQUEE! NEWBIES!

After a month of nanowrimo will any of us be capable of much - apart from complete insanity which we all do rather well.

Yay! As the only Ght wrimo who has commented so far we definitely need you to be there. And if you are living at Cow Moon Theory we know they will be open when we arrive. Have tried to get there to confirm that they are open at that time and everytime I go there it is closed up. But now we have an inside source :) Is that the bathroom where you had death living in last year's novel?

I know, there is a huge interest in the posters. I have replaced the one at Pick 'n Pay several times. Four newbies signed up already. Hopefully more will arrive soon.

Whohoo!!! I am so glad you will be able to join us.

We will have write-ins on Sunday afternoons. Last year we sort of started at three, but it was quite informal. People arrived or left at various times. Officially 3-5 but I remember some people arriving at five, and often we stayed until six or after. Cow Moon Theory is that sort of place. Very easy to mellow out and write.

Question - do people want to write in on the 1st or should we rather focus on the party on the saturday and then write furiously on Sunday.

And I would love to hear how you managed to move into the CMT Bathroom at the Back.

I shall put a few posters up on campus too, in the languagey departments and so on today. I'll also ask Nathan if we can stick a "novelists at work" poster in his window.

Yes, it is the bathtub Death lived in - although he never really got far enough to live in it (stoopid laptop mutter mutter) - and perhaps I'll work it in... Bwa ha ha ha.

They've been closed for the last few days because more people have moved into the bar, and it took a while to clear their stuff out of the blue room and into the back, but they're ready and open for business again, as of last night.

As for some of last year's wrimos - some of them are doing it, some of them aren't, but I'm bringing along a shiny newbie of my own and there should be quite a few of us procrastinating exam-escapists there.
