Kara and I are hosting write-ins on the weekend, but like most people we have jobs and families and like to sleep every so often, so we can only do so much. But! You don't need to be an ML or even need one around to have a write-in. Anyone can do it! Here's what you need to do:

Pick a place: All a write-in venue really needs is decent seating in which few people can write. Outlets are helpful (bring a surge protector if you can so everyone can plug in) and food is even better. If you do host a write-in at a place that serves food, please support the venue by purchasing a drink or a snack.

Pick a time: It doesn't hurt to get in the forum and try to arrange a time that works for other people, but you'll never find a time that works for everyone, so don't stress about it. Pick a time that works for you.

Don't conflict with offical events. We encourage WriMos to host their own write-ins, but please don't schedule one that conflicts with an official event. If we're out in Germantown on a Saturday and you'd like to write in Midtown on the same day, that's fine. But please don't schedule a write-in five minutes away from another event.

Announce it in the forum: Please use this thread to organize and announce unofficial write-ins. Make sure you let people know the time, place, whether there are outlets and how they should recognize you. If you'd like the write-in put on the calendar, let Kara or me know (via PM at the moment - I'm not sure we're hooked up to the ML contact form yet.) There's no guarantee we'll see the post before the write-in, so definitely contact us if you want it on the calendar.

Aaaaand, I believe that's it. :)

Adding to what Dev said and also in relation to contacting us... I do not have access to this site during the day. However, I do have access to gmail. Please feel free to email us any details about write-ins (or anything else you might need, wants, or questions, etc.) at memphistn.ml@gmail.com

:O)

Thanks for that. I may host one during the daytime hours in the FedEx building on the U of M campus. "Host" sounds so official.

I wouldn't mind Hosting one at the Bartlett Library or at Barnes and Nobles by the Wolfchase Mall one day. If anyone's interested pm me here or email me at sparrowluvr2@yahoo.com. I won't be able to be on here much during the day and work.

I was at the zoo yesterday and saw that there were lots of places Write Ins could be held there...

Anyone see the Teton Trek log cabin. It's nice and warm... lots of tables/ seats... cozy and clean!

I wonder if I'd have to get permission. I feel like they'd try to charge me for it...even though I am a zoo member!
Maybe if a few of us just got together it wouldn't look like a big...event. :p

Mitchell Hall is the History building. I'll be posting room specifics on the calendar shortly.

I will be hosting what I like to call, "The Loneliest Little Write-In" at the cafe in Hastings in Wichita Falls, TX.

The time will be, whenever I decide to go there on Wednesday. By myself.... alone... in my tear-stained tshirt... minus my nicely knit typing mitts (as they are still in Memphis)...

...So, anyone with access to teleportation of any kind, hit me up -I'm buying the coffee...

No teleportation device, sadly, or even a butt-in-chair-and-write-dammit device. However, it seems very sad to me that you are doing such a lonely write-in. It looks like there is a Wichita Falls group here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3275050

Perhaps you could join them for some write-ins?

Carolyn
