Well, I already know there's at least one writer in Medicine Hat that would love to attend a few write-ins -- that'd be myself. : ) I know I had fun writing with a few others, but alas, they've both departed for bigger and better things.

Anyone else in the Hat trying the NaNoWriMo challenge? Here's the thread to talk about it!

Oh, right -- and on the off-chance that anybody wants to put Medicine Hat into their novel, feel free to ask me anything about the city. I can't guarantee an exposé on the Hat's seedy underbelly, but I'll get you your answer. : )

I'm in the Hat! I missed out on the meet-ups last year. This year I definitely want to go to at least one.

[waves] Hey, there. Nice to see there's a few more people from this city making the attempt. I've never done NaNo before, and it is a great comfort to know other people in the same geographic area will be suffering with me!

YAY! More people from Medicine Hat. I know this place isn't that small but since I stayed away from the forums before I always felt like I was the only one around here who was crazy enough to do this.

Would love to get together for a write in if someone has the time to organize one.

One more Medicine Hat writer reporting in! It's awesome that there's at least a few of us. I was jealous that there were so many Lethbridge writers given that I've moved away. Haha.

Hey, great to see so many of you here! Okay, give me a few hours to finish helping with the Monarch Theatre's Grand Opening, and then a few more hours to sleep, and on Sunday, we can start hashing together some good times and places to meet up!

And does anyone have some preferred locales which won't kick out a bunch of people with laptops and notebooks?

Another (recalcitrant) local checking-in. Yes, I'm up for some write-ins... actually, type-ins, since injuring a finger and having to switch from pen to MacBook (I like it!). I tentatively thought of trying the NaNoWriMo challenge in 2007, and think maybe this year is The One to do it. A good location would be the new Starbucks... long bench seats with power and tables for "us". Maybe we could make a standing reservation? Can't think of a nicer spot in MH... or perhaps MHC (the college) after 5pm with free parking. The front hall has tables and stools. Not sure about power but can check on it. There's always the libraries (MHC and MHPL). I can't vouch for Tim's if you need to plug in... at least one (MH Mall location) doesn't like power thiefs (sigh) and there's only one outlet in each location (that I've noticed). But, bring fully-charged laptops/books/notebooks or pen and paper, and we could meet anywhere warm and dry!!! At present I have no writing buddies, but that obviously could change now... ; )

I would have to walk across the parking lot and check with them, but I don't think the Dreamcenter would mind if we stopped in for an afternoon or evening. I was actually planning on asking them about their hours and if they minded for just myself anyway. I am going to need a place to run and hide from my 2 year old if I want to get my story done this year.

To feel really comfortable, I would want to meet/write in a totally neutral/no agenda environment. We might even be able to book a large "study room" at the MHC library. Large quiet room with equally large windows (tho' doesn't matter after 5... it's dark out!). Parking would be a snap. Power outlets for sure. I don't know if we could take over a cafe-type locale, without reserving tables... it would be nice to go somewhere that's got a good atmosphere and access to sustenance like food and drink (no, I'm not thinking a bar), but we'll have to see what the others suggest, hopefully tomorrow (Sunday) as mentioned by Denton. It would be good to all meet at least once, but weekly might be useful/supportive too! Standing by... to hear from the others... in The Hat...

Hey! Another Medicine Hat Nanowrimer checking in. I think it would be great to have meeting at the beginning and end of November, and then maybe have smaller weekly meetings at a set location for anyone to drop in when they want. I'm really looking forward to meeting some other people doing Nanowrimo this year!

So now I'm wondering what's required to get these get togethers together?! Hey, everything kicks-off in just 5 days, 6.5+ hours! I want all the support I can get... people (friendly-like) breathing down my neck weekly. Making public declarations of madness (well, this task IS mad!!!). Don't know if Denton is The One to pull it off, organizing the rest of us Elsewheres... in Medicine Hat. Hoping we all do meet some day...

Okay, the theatre's running, I can focus on NaNo again.

How about a kickoff at high noon, then? 12:00 at the new Starbucks (opposite the new Canadian Tire). I'll go there in advance, and let them know a group of six or so will be showing up, and I can bring a power bar, too - just in case. We'll make some quick introductions, and write furiously until we hit 1,667 words (and it can be done in a single sitting, don't worry). I'll have a few disposable plot ideas to hand out, just to make sure we all get to a good start. Then, perhaps a bit more mingling, a bit more typing, and we'll start the month ahead of the game. A perfect day!

Of course, that doesn't mean you can't start typing at the stroke of midnight, and show up ready to type your *next* 1,667 words. More power to you if you do!

So - how's that sound?

Hey, I like it and I'll be there! Fully charged MacBook, $4.75 for a kick-off chai latte, and Tylenol. Just in case! Or maybe I'll buy "just" a coffee using a Starbucks card... unlimited free refills, I believe. And you know, I might just write a word or two at midnight to start off on the right foot... Then I'll be in Lethbridge on Tuesday, to see if the surgeon thinks my finger needs a joint fused... I could do some writing there before I come home. This whole thing could really get me writing... I mean, not just for November. It's getting exciting... and I actually am jumping in without a real plan/outline. My fingers will know what I need to say... well, 9 of them will, anyway! I'm counting on coming for coffee in the oldest body of the group, but I taught college for 20 years so should be comfortable with all of you youngsters, ha! ha! ha! Don't worry. I didn't teach English...

See you very soon! Thanks, Denton = )

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it on Sunday, as I work from 8-5 that day. So I will have to wait until the next meeting to meet everyone.

I'd like to come to a few write-ins, although I'm sure I won't be able to make most of them with my silly schedule. But I'll keep checking in for dates Denton sets up throughout November.

Denton's suggested for Medicine Hat: this Sunday, 12 noon, new Starbucks across from new CDN Tire store. Hope you can come!

Oh wow, you forget to check the forums for a few days... I'll definitely try to make the meetup Sunday. Speaking of, I seriously can't believe this is starting in less than a week.

Awesome to see more Hat WriMos coming out of the woodwork, btw.

Hello all! I'm also another Medicine Hat writer who will be attempting this novel thingy this year. Or, at least I think I am. We'll see how far a complete lack of plot, no discernible characters and a broken foot will take me! :)

Excellent to hear from everyone! I've already double-checked with the Starbucks staff, and they're fine with that. They say Sunday is usually a quiet day for them, too. Even if you haven't replied to this thread, you're still invited to come -- but a reply here would still be appreciated.

And, if you've got any preferences for a writing time/place next week, let's hear them! Having a set location every weekend is a really good idea, and it doesn't have to be as early as noon - I just wanted a good start for the 1st. : )

See you all there!

While I don't have any preference on place, I would appreciate if the time could be later as I usually work weekends until about 5 or 6. Sorry I am going to miss this Sunday's get together.

A last minute reminder: don't forget to check your clocks for Daylight Saving Time, everyone! But if you do show up at 11h00 instead of 12h00, well, that's just an extra hour of writing time anyway, right?

I'm already behind in my word count... auuugggghhhhh!!! Hope to have another meeting soon, if that's what it's going to take to keep up the flow. Sigh... must not give up. Picked up a couple of novel "Novel" writing books at Chapters in L'bridge yesterday, after I saw the surgeon yet again about my wrecked finger. Don't know if the books will help, but sure hope so. I'm floundering!!! But the good news is I'm typing with ALL fingers today. The recovering one feels REALLY weird. Maybe I should write a novel about the wacko medical system we have here... 50,000 words wouldn't be enough!

Shall we try the new Starbucks again?

Sunday evening (Nov 8), but at 7:00PM, so that people who work Sundays can join us.

Who's with me?
