A-hoy!
I am online now but sadly, i have moved!
Got myself a job and moved down to London where i have been for the last 8 months. :)
So, two things...
- Anyone wanna take over the ML responsibilities from me? Would be a crying shame to see the regular Border's meets etc die out so soon after they began.
- Good luck all MK Nanoers!

Hi there
I'm not really living in Milton Keynes but it's the nearest to where I actually live although I'm originally from Wales.

Hi. Northampton here. Second year for me and should say that I can't wait (which I can't, honestly!) except that I'm only 25K into second (non-NaNoWriMo) novel (which I started in January!) and want to reach the 50K (which may or may not finish the story) by end October so I can then start my NaNo novel on Nov 1st. :)
Between January and Tues 6th Oct I'd done 5,927 and since 6th Oct I've done 19,003 (av e 1900 words a day) so above NaNo average and 500 words ahead of target so quietly confident. I'm on a novel writing course tomorrow (17 Oct) so I'm hoping that will give me an idea for the next one, although I've got a 39 page Word document packed with ideas (a folder with nearly 2000 sentence beginnings!) to plenty of inspiration. :)
So, for anyone doing it for the first time this year (or thinking about it)...do it! It's great and it focusses the mind. If, like me, you usually only do a few words (or none!) a day, it makes you realise that it's quite feasible to do 1,667 words a day. OK, so you lose your social life in the process but if your friends are true friends they'll stand behind you and cheer you all the way.

Hi Welsh Dragon
Welcome.
I don't live in MK either but there isn't a Northampton forum and these guys seem like a friendly bunch so happy to stay put.
I've rambled a bit in my reply to Dr Magister so I'll keep this short (plus also the more I write here, the less I do to novel 2 :)).
Looking forward to chatting with you all in the forthcoming weeks.

Hussah! People! Hello all!
Yeah, so no ML. Um... can we arrange meet-ups and stuff without one, or would the organiser automatically become the ML? This is assuming that people actually want to meet up in what some people refer to erroneously as 'real life'.
Anyhow, good to see that there are some MK (and surrounding locale) NaNoers around.
Dr M.

Hello! In MK and online. I sincerely hope to make a better go of it this year. It is a bit echoey and I can hear the chirping of crickets in here, but I hope things will get swinging any day now.

Vous êtes un amant animale!
So last year was your first year. Moi aussi. :) I did 52,680 words (according to my computer, the NaNo robots made it 52,695 so I'm not complaining) so just scraped in but finished two days early so I could have done some editing and bumped up the figure although I know there were parts that were waffle so I could have ended up below the 50K!
Anyway, I'm currently writing ave. of 2000 words a day (for novel no. 2) so hopefully I'll have no problem beating last year's figure although I've planned any of the NaNo 2009 novel yet (not even decided on the idea...better get my skates on!).
Hope it goes well for you this year.

Hey guys, I am a NaNaWriMo virgin and actually don't have much hope for sucess but I'll try. But encouragement would be appriciated. Hehe.
Doesn anyone else just want November to start already! Hehe.
Also, to the Waliens - I consider myself Welsh too. Except I've lived in England all my life, but I love my Welsh heritage. :)

Oh, you'll be fine. If you have a good idea and you think it has 'legs' then go for it! Last year was my first time and it wasn't as painful as I thought. I managed to do 53,000 with a couple of days to spare, although I missed a couple of days mid-month and ended up doing over 6,000 the following Sunday. I wouldn't mind November starting as it'll mean that I've finished novel no. 2 :)
Sadly I'm not aware of any Welsh connections although my dad found out (having spent 8 years doing a family tree) that we're related to the Irish side of ex-US president Jimmy Carter!

Hi Dan,
Shame you won't be ML-ing for us this year - I thought you did a fantastic job last time.
Great to hear about the job - hope you won't be too busy to Nano.

Why thank you! If you and/or the good dr would like to take over the Ml duties, i would heartily reccommend you both! It's not really any trouble at all, so why don't you both ahve a look at this page here...

Also, i hope i'm not too busy either... work until 6 every day and don't get back home til nearly 7, severely less time than when i was pretending to apply for jobs this time last year!

Hey there, I'm a second time NaNo'er! But again, I have moved on, to northampton! Theres no group for there as previously mentioned, so I thought I'd leave good old MK as my home group.
Hopefully we can organise some things either in MK or Northampton (for those of us who are Northampton based!)
Oh yeah, im a first year at Uni now, so I have more time than I did when I was at college ;)

Hiya
I'm a second-time nanoer, writing while in sixth form so a little bit of a struggle to keep the work and books balanced (especially as the books are so much more fun to do...)
Managed to complete last year, though I wrote 26,000 words in the first three weeks and 24,000 in the last five days (is that a little bit insane or what?!)
I'm half an hour or so away from MK, and couldn't find anywhere else closer so here I am.
Good luck everyone!

3,686 in your very first two days. Well done you! Keep up the good work and you'll fly through the 50K.
I didn't make the meets last year but intend to this time and it'll be great to meet other writers. I belong to two writing groups but this will be something special.

You're well over the 2 day target so that's fantastic!
Are you running out of physical steam or story steam? If it's the latter, have you plotted your story enough? I didn't last year and I struggled in points (and the first draft had too many incidents of making cups of tea where I'd have been better off putting detail) but this year I planned all 31 (which later became 32) chapters and if I keep going at the same rate per chapter I'll have a 160K+ word book! I don't think you can really have too much detail - think of the 5 senses. Most of the time we write about what our characters are seeing and saying (hearing) but what about taste and touch? Can we envisage the environment/room that they're in. Whilst we won't have time to go overboard (and probably not be able to go back at many stages, if at all, and edit), if you're struggling for content, think deeper. If you think you might run out of story too early (which hopefully you won't be doing on day 3) throw an/other conflict(s)/dilemma(s) in the mix. I went on a one-day novel course mid-October and learnt that a novel usually has a main dilemma mid-way(ish) but then another one later on, e.g. they lose the gold, need to find the gold, they find the gold but then the owner of the gold (or pirates or whatever) want it back. Just an idea. :)
If it's physical steam then I'm not sure how to help other than suggest an early night and lie in tomorrow (if you can) and then tunnel vision.
