We're overjoyed to learn this year that CreateSpace.com will once again offering a free proof copy to all our 2009 winners! Yay, CreateSpace! To redeem the offer, you'll need a special NaNoWriMo winner's promo code, which we'll be posting on the "I Wrote a Novel, Now What?" page again, starting December 2. The code will be good for six months.
Here's how you go about using it:
1) Win NaNoWriMo. Then, starting December 2, sign in to the NaNoWriMo site, and head to the "I Wrote a Novel, Now What?" page. If you're logged in and a winner, you'll see a secret CreateSpace code there. Grab it.
2) Go to CreateSpace and create a free member account.
3) Set up your title: you will be asked to fill in information such as title, author name, page count, etc.
4) Submit your title: make sure that your title’s information is accurate and complies with Createspace's Submission Requirements. Your Submission will be reviewed to ensure it can be printed.
5) When everything's uploaded and perfect, just request a proof copy and use your discount code at check out. Presto!
After you receive your proof copy, you can then choose if you want to make it available to the public at large—everything from showing up for sale on Amazon.com to complete invisibility.
You can also access the CreateSpace community at: https://www.createspace.com/en/community/index.jspa?ref=438265&utm_id=4850.
Thanks again to CreateSpace.com for their amazingly generous offer!
Chris

Woohoo! I probably won't use the offer myself, but lots of WriMos were wondering about it. Thanks for posting this.

I'm so glad their doing this again! I love being able to say, "I wrote a novel last November and oh by the way, here it is in book form!" Just be sure to put in a title page and any other extra pages you want since the pages of the novel will be exactly the document you submit to the site.

Yes! The CreateSpace offer is an excellent souvenir after NaNo is over. I loved receiving mine last year and was not disappointed by the quality. My mom took so many pictures of me being presented the package, me holding up the package impatiently with a huge grin on my face, me cutting open the package, me pulling out the book, me flipping through the book with a huge grin on my face, me holding up the book with such a huge grin that she told me to retake it because it didn't look anything like my regular smile. I was just so happy and excited! I'm glad their doing it again this year!

Yay! Quite happy to hear that it's official. :) I heard the YWP will be getting proof copies for their winners this year as well...how very nice of CreateSpace to do that! I know a lot of kids (and adults!) who are so motivated to do NaNo now because of the "prize" offered for winning.
Any motivation is good motivation in my book! :D

T____________T I totally missed the code last year! I got an email in May reminding us. I starred it in my gmail, and then it disappeared into the plethora of other starred emails I received soon after because it was a busy time of year with lots of important email. I will NOT forget this year! D:

Wow, I might actually use it this time... for last year`s novel, in case I manage to finish edits in time. I`ve got a question, though - is the shipping free only within the US or all around the world?

Last year CreateSpace posted mine all the way to the UK for free - I was very impressed because I wasn't expecting them to. I'm so happy they are doing this again. There's nothing like holding a book with your own name on it.

As long as you pick normal shipping then it's free :) There's an option for super fast shipping, but if you pick that then it charges you.
It says that the normal shipping takes ages, but it estimates the worst scenario possible. Mine got to Australia for free, very quickly :)

I'm so going to try to do this. Last year my novel was such a mess I didn't even edit it. I'm starting out this year with a more cohesive idea and a small outline (I don't like to outline). So I'm hoping I can get it edited and ready for printing this year. It would be so awesome to have my book in my hands. Thanks CreateSpace!!

No, they don't help publish your book exactly. You CAN self publish through them, but this offer is for a free printed copy, nothing else :) You upload your NaNo to it, set everything to private, and they send you one copy (called a proof copy) for your very own. That's it! :)
And the offer is available for many months, giving you the time to fix it all up :) Believe me. I worked on mine steadily for months after NaNo and came away with a very nice print copy. Give it a go! It's worth it :)

And another question, what if someone writes in a language other than English? Will they still publish the book?
