Just to keep things all in one place, I wanted to put the actual dates, times and locations for easy reference:
We will be holding our Kickoff Party October 30th from 3-6 pm at Dietsch Brothers Ice Cream; 400 W Main Cross Findlay, Ohio 45840. Look for the person wearing the white NaNoWriMo tee shirt. Chances are I will probably have ice cream all over the front of it. I'll have a pack of goodies for you all when you come.
Meetups on Wednesdays in November from 3-4 pm with a Write-in immediately following from 4-6 pm. The meet ups and write ins will be held at Panera Bread 1971 Tiffin Avenue Findlay, Ohio 45840.
~*~*~*~
Wow, I'm glad to see all the Findlay-ites all coming out of the woodwork! YAY!
Does anyone have a preference on the time of the meetups and writeins? I was looking at 2-6 pm on Wednesdays. For physical meetups I have to have them on Tuesday or Wednesdays. The weekend online meetings will probably be best on either a Saturday or a Sunday from say 6:30 or 7 until whenever we all drop off.
As for a location, I contacted Stately Raven but they didn't seem too pleased to have me asking about it and told me to email their owner who has yet to get back to me. I was also thinking about holding it a Morey's on Tiffin Avenue since it seems relatively quiet and they have a little room they would perhaps allow us to use. I'll stop in there tomorrow and see who it is I need to talk to about that.
I figure George House will be too noisy for us to write, especially if we're really concentrating. The kickoff party and the TGIO party could be at GH, however.
So chime in, WriMos! What works for you guys?

Ohh what about Panera? They have Wi Fi and Coffee and booths or sitting area, it maybe a little loud but still a nice place to work, maybe? Just throwing out an idea here.

I like the Panera idea. Food, writing and they aren't too weird about squatters.
Stately Raven is kinda blaaaah. I wouldn't bank on them. Heh.
I would almost wonder about the library. Maybe they have rooms or meeting areas? Or the University of Findlay. I dunno, just throwing out ideas. :)

Anyone outside of students don't have the privilege of using the University's space, even if we ask for donation. They will most likely deny it since we're a very small group.
I can talk to Panera. The only downside there, honestly, is that it's a busy, bustling cafe and full of plenty of reasons for distraction and not exactly productive to word counts if you're already having trouble getting them down. Food and drink is good, but I'm worried about having a quiet work space. I do like me some food and drink, though. And Panera has jazz, which makes me happy.
The library might work, but I don't know if they have any private meeting areas and I know there would be no food or drink allowed there.
Mer, what authority do you have the anti lifestyle thing on? I'd be interested in finding out more about that, personally. They've never had any problems with me any time I've been in there and they never had a problem when I applied for a job. Let me know so I can check into it. Really unfortunate if they are.
Nobody has said anything about times thus far, though, and that's one of the things I was really concerned about. If that time works for you guys, I'll just set it as gospel.
Also: What would you guys think about having the kickoff party at Deitch's ice cream on Main Cross?

Times are fine with me. I work full time on a weird schedule so if you do meetups every Wednesday, I can only do the 11th. ::shrug:: I assume we wouldn't have one on the 25th being so close to Thanksgiving (and my birthday!)

Actually I will be having a meetup and a write in on the 25th. The dates are November: 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th. If later works better for you, I'm better with later in the afternoon and evening myself. I'm not a morning person by nature and that lets me sleep in a little later.
Although if your schedule is too weird I understand that, too. Swing shifts are murder.
The time might also depend on when Panera is slow on Wednesdays so that we will be there and not taking up a whole bunch of space while they're trying to serve customers.

My gay best friend was denied service there when they were downtown, before moving out to the mall. Because he kisses his bf on the cheek before he walked in and his bf walked away. It wasnt so much denied service but more of the staff was incredibly rude and when he talk to a manager the man shrugged it off. So it may have just been that small group of employees but its still not a place I would go to by choice. If its the best bet for the group I ll go, but *shrug*

It seems really strange to me that the Stately Raven would be irked at having write-ins there. I know two years ago I called them and left my number and then the owner called me back saying it would be all right to hold one there. Of course, it was like four people total, but I should still think they would be all right with it. Perhaps if we just invaded despite their nonreponse? The loft is my favorite. Two couchs and plenty of floorspace and plugs. :D
Findlay is generally unfortunate in its lack of decent writing spots. I write at George House all the time and it's completely manageable with some headphones and ballin' music. Panera would probably be the same way, though I can imagine people getting a little irritated that this group of crazy writers are taking over their seats for several hours in the day. But that's just me.
All I know is that when I get back in town, I'll definitely be chilling at George House pretty much all the time. Anyone is welcome to join me. As for the write-ins, though, I'm at a loss. D:

If we end up in Panera we might wanna move to an earlier time to avoid the dinner rush. Might make them less weird about it. I think if we are buying from them they should be fine with us being there. And yes, boo swing shifts.

I am reluctant to do anything before 2 pm, so we could do 2-4. I was planning on doing a little meet and greet and chatter beforehand, write-in for a couple of hours and then chatter afterward, so no one would have to be there the whole time unless they want the company of others which, in the case of the wrimo, is nice to know you're not the only author suffering. It really does help coming to the write-ins. I am placing a call to them shortly to find out what their dead times are.
As far as it goes, having worked at George House, Wednesdays from 2-6 are their extremely dead ass times, so they won't care that we're hanging out there. No outside food or drink, however, so we would have to be okay with eating their stuff and not bringing our own.
All I know is that when I get back in town, I'll definitely be chilling at George House pretty much all the time. Anyone is welcome to join me. As for the write-ins, though, I'm at a loss. D:
When I went in to talk to someone about it, the lady at the counter was rather rude to me and told me to email the owner to ask about it. Which I did. And have yet to hear a response. I would be ALL FOR invading Stately Raven for the actual writing of the novels but I like having permission.
As for George House, if you'll be there, be sure to post the dates and times and if any of us can be there and want the camaraderie of a fellow author, we can show up. I'm starting to lean toward George House for the simple fact that I know they're dead-ish around that time for the dine-in crew and having worked there, they are more than willing to have us come and hang out for periods of time. Plus I can see the baristas since I don't get in there as often as I'd like. Plus it's like... just down the way from Meri's place and she could even just walk down to GH if she wanted.
Hmmm. Mary was talking about coming up for the write-ins. Maybe she and I could make a little stop by Moreys on Tiffin Avenue and see if the help is still the same. I do know that the location on Main closed and many of those employees lost their jobs, so I wonder if they culled the herds, so to speak. It also may not be that he was gay that they were rude so much as they were just rude there. There's a reason I never went to the Main Street location. I'll call it an experience in the name of SCIENCE! **pulls out the Doctor Steel hats**
Regardless, I will place the call to Panera and to George House and see what they say. **picks up phone now**
Okay, I just called, got the General Manager off the frigging bat and they said that we could meet at 2 but he said it is hit or miss. By 3 pm they are cleared out and the dinner rush starts at 6, so we are cleared to meet from three to six every Wednesday in November! Panera it is! I'll get that into the google calendar on the front page of the group here and we'll be good to go!
I am looking at doing the kickoff party at Deitch's ice cream on Main Cross and I'll get that in the calendar as well. I am really hoping to heaven that I'll get the day off of work. That way we can meet up on a Friday, have some cool treats and chatter and I have a few freebies for you guys when you come in that should help with your writing. Free gift from me.
The TGIO party I'm thinking of having at George House. I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help us out there.
Look for the calendar updates and I'll be sending out a mass email to everyone who hasn't been on the forums to let them know what we've all come up with and decided. Thanks for the suggestions, all. It's appreciated like you wouldn't believe!
