Hello everybody... not much action on the South of the river side at the moment.
My name is Damian, and this will be my second NaNo... I'm hoping to win this year, so we'll see how it all goes.
Looking forwards to meeting up!

First NaNo for me. I'm so glad Curtin Uni finishes classes before November. I've got high hopes for reaching the 50k. Got a fair bit of detailed planning done already, so it should be all good.

G'day all!
Riddle me this; why is Perth the only city in Australia that has been split into North and South for NaNo? I'm out in High Wycombe, which is East, so I joined up for both. But it did strike me as quite an oddity.
I've been writing TMNT fan fiction for the past four years whilst being a stay at home Mum with my three young boys. But this is my first attempt at NaNo. And my first attempt at writing an original fiction novel. While reaching the 50 000 word mark would be awesome, my main goal is to get the draft for the novel down on paper. I'll be writing the draft, but the concept for the novel is a collaborative effort between myself and my hubbie. And I'm looking forward to having something more tangible than ideas tossed back and fore to sink our teeth into in getting this writing project underway.
Cheers! And good luck to you all with reaching your NaNo goals!

Hi all,
My 2nd Nano, and my first SOR- last year I was living North and registered under the username CRKing (a play on the name of my project). This time I have morse sense, and nicer beaches, having swapped Clarkson for Mandurah :)
Looking forward to catching up with people and getting stuck into some words.
Cheers,

Hello! I've attempted this a bunch of times without success (more times than I should admit), but came closer to winning than I ever had before last year, and worked out that I can bust out over 2000 words an hour provided I know exactly what I'm writing, so I'm doing a detailed plan and maybe this time...?
Writing a post-post-apocalyptic SF horror mystery (or something) set in what's left of Perth, which should be fun. And cathartic. >:D

The way I won last year was basically the getting up 1-2 hours earlier each day (as I mentioned earlier) and I also brought my laptop to work and wrote during my lunch breaks on days where I hadn't met my 2,500 daily word target.
Also just let yourself go and don't try to make anything perfect or even sensible in some cases, and if you feel stuck or feel like a character needs fleshing out, try a stream-of-consciousness ramble in that character's head - this worked to get the words and ideas flowing for me very quickly.
The part I'm having trouble with right now leading up to the comp? My working title :P Last year I chose a random word as I had no idea of any plot at all, I created it as I wrote. This year I have a setting and plot in mind, which is making it much harder to settle on a good title.
Maybe I will just call it Bob.

Third crack at it. First year had a complete computer failure about 30k in! Last year just ran out of steam!
Lots of planning done already and am hoping to get the little "Winner" star this year.
Out Armadale way so can add east to the south bit!
Good luck all.

G'day, you lot.
First NaNo for me!
I actually discovered NaNoWriMo just before November last year, but that was cutting it a little to fine, so I figured I'd have a crack at it the following year. Funny thing is, up until a few days ago, I COMPLETELY FORGOT about it for this year. I don't have a heck of a lot of planning done for my novel. But hey, I figure that will increase the challenge a bit, and at the same time get me out of my bad habits of trying to control and plan everything instead of just writing and seeing where it takes me.
Should be fun. Can't wait. :)

Hi! This will be my first Nano, and I'm quite excited about it :) I heard about it last year on a Tarot forum I'm active on, and this year have decided to join. Well, actually, I had nothing to do this morning and googled it out of curiosity, then figured it was about to start so why not?
I plan to use my cards to help me get over plot issues and help flesh out my characters. I want this to be a somewhat character-driven melange, if that doesn't sound totally pretentious LOL! I also love to read for other people, so please, if your characters (or you!) are stuck in a moment you can't get out of, just let me know and I'll pull some cards for you! I find that images help me to write so very much, and I'm looking forward to the discipline of putting words to my Tarot passion.
I have lots of other interests, too, which, combined, make me one of those weirdos :D but I reckon I'm a harmless one, and fairly interesting to be around. I love to make stuff out of stuff - knit, sew, crochet, paint, generally assemble things into something else. I fancy myself to be a great deal more imaginative and creative than I really am LOL I have a cat, and four finches that joined us on the weekend, and I love to cook and listen to metal music. Not necessarily at the same time, though.
So hi! I do hope that there's one of these meetup things soon, as I'm keen to see some faces!

Thankyou! It would indeed make me Mjollnir . . . or at least I try :) It will be something of a subtheme in my novel, the corruption of the simplicity of justice and honour by the 21st century culture.
I like your username, too - it made me giggle.

hi Reijiro,
There are several reasons the zone was split up, but mainly b/c this way you get twice as many choices for write-ins depending on how far you're prepared to travel.
Happy to share other reasons with you in person at a write-in (hint hint, COME TO A WRITE-IN!)

Thanks for the words of encouragement sassamifrass! What tripped me up last time was that I knew the beginning, and I knew the end, but the middle was a big pile of eh and I ended up spending 15000 of my words commenting uselessly on the architecture. :D Know to avoid that this time.
I don't mind where the write-ins are if I can get to them every once in a while. Full-time work + no car = a bit of a bummer.

Seeing as we have a heap of Mandurah people (and a train line), can we think about having a Mandurah based write in? I'm even further south of Mandurah and have to fit everything in around school hours, so going up to Perth is not really an option.
The Dome cafe on Doddies beach is beautiful - free wifi, great coffee, lovely view and comfy lounges (and the staff don't kick you out after you finish your drink).
Anyway, I'm Shannon and this is my second nano :)

Oooh, count me in. That sounds damn fine. I can think of few outlooks more likely to foster the imagination than sitting looking out over the Mandurah foreshore :)

Yep, I'd be in for a Mandurah write in. South Perth is way too north for me to get to, so I'd definitely put my hand up for a more 'rural' setting for our writing days. Also, we have children and jobs, so one of the weekend days would work best too (for babysitting, not for bringing.)

I'd be in for a Mandurah meet too - it takes me about 40 mins to get into the city by bus, and then I could just catch the train all the way there (about 45-60mins I think?) - too easy!
I'm in the same position, no car and full-time job, so any write-ins that happen near a train line or a major bus route are good for me =)
Weekends are good, although I could consider taking a half day off at some point. I had to miss all the write-ins last year :(

Looks like we've got a good mix of new and experienced writers this year. I'll make a suggestion of sunday write-ins since i work late on thursdays, just my two cents.
This will be year four for me, if memory serves, and I'm looking forward to this one more than the last. The last result has become a series of ideas, so this year I'll be working on a mix of both 'book 1 draft 3' and 'book 2 draft whatever comes out at the time'. Exciting!
And I see I'm not the only Curtin student on here either :)

Hi all!!
This is my 2nd NaNoWriMo, but this year I WILL succeed!!! (if I write that over and over again, will it count as my 50,000 word count? hehehe)
Im in Mundaring, so Im east as well. :)
I have no idea what my story will be about, but I am going to start to think about it... I just have the problem of trying to avoid making a similar story to the ones I already have on the go!
Ive never been to Mandurah for a social visit, so Im all for trying out the train line.
Also, Freo would count as SoR yes? Perhaps we could ask the Merchant or the Dome down there if we could use their cafe? Might be too busy on a weekend tho....

Hi all! My name is Kelly and I am a 16 year old full-time student down in Baldivis. This is my first NaNoWriMo and I hope that I will be able to succeed in getting to 50k words (or more!) within the month. Of course, this will not be an easy challenge as I have many assessments and exams which ironically finish at the end of November. However, with two of my friends signing up along with me, I gave in and decided that I would give it a go this year.
I am not a particularly talented writer, but I am starting to formulate a couple of ideas that do not sound too terrible which will hopefully be enough to get me through the month with 50,000 words. Being able to get to the write-ins may be difficult for me however, especially with school! With that said, I hope that I will be able to make it at least one time on a weekend. It would be great meeting you all! :)

Hiya! This is my third NaNoWriMo. The first year I wrote NOTHING and the second year I won with 50,000! I'm currently editing and revising that novel. I have some ideas stewing about this year's epic, but still unsure.
I actually live north, but I want lots of choices for write-ins so I've joined both groups. Plus, I know Anita. Yay! :)
Look forward to meeting people at write-ins.
