Okay, so I know that one of our MLs (can't remember which one) sent out the time of the darn thing, but I can't seem to find it on the forums.

What was the time? I remember 4:00 as the start time. Is that right?

And where? Cause I don't remember the e-mail in which this was all mentioned as saying where.

Still trying to talk the hubby (DogBeard, one of the newbies this year) into going.

**EDIT from Robert:

Location has been confirmed to be The Drury Down Under on Drury Campus from 9 PM - 2 AM on October 31st!

For anyone who doesn't know, the Drury Down Under is located in lower portion of the Findlay Student Center (FSC) on Drury Campus. Getting to it is fairly simple. You'll just drive down Drury Ln. until you effectively reach a cul-de-sac. The FSC is on the right side of that cul-de-sac. You can park on Drury Ln. and walk to the FSC. When you get there, take the stairs leading down below the main entrance. That's the Down Under!

Please RSVP with whether or not you are coming. If you are, we'd love it if you'd possibly bring some sort of caffeinated cold beverage (like soda or tea) OR a snack-type food (such as chips, string cheese, cookies, popcorn, etc). It's not required: so if you can't bring anything, don't worry! You're all still welcome to show up and write your hands off!

You can keep track of the emails the MLs send out here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3267685

Quote:
What: WriSynSGFMo Informational Meet Up and Brouhaha
Where: Panera Bread Co. on National and Elm (Address for you Google Mappers: 500 S. National Ave. Springfield, MO 65802)
Time: 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM
What to Bring: A notebook, a pencil or pen, and your creativity.
Parking: There is a parking lot located behind the Panera building. You can get to it from either Elm St. or from National Ave.

And at the top of our regional forum there's a box with a calendar of events in it that you can scroll through. Clicky on the name of the event and it'll give you more info, like a description and where it's at and stuff.

Also, I don't think there's a location picked yet for the first midnight write-in.

The box says 9:00 for the Oct 31st/Nov 1st write in, so unless someone else tells me otherwise, that's when I'm showing up.

9:00 PM is the current tentative time.

However, we don't currently have a location because the place we normally use (Rendezvous) is going to be absolutely packed on Halloween due to the Halloween pub crawl and that it's also a Saturday.

If anyone has suggestions for where we can do our Kick-Off party and Midnight Write-In, please feel free to post ideas here! We'd totally appreciate it. :D

Hmmm... I don't know what's already been crossed off as a possible place, but there's always the library center. They host lock-ins for youth all the time, but considering it's Halloween they might already have something going on. They're worth a call if you haven't asked them already.

If you're looking for a restaurant sort of place, I'm pretty sure that Steak and Shake is open 24 hours and I can't imagine they'd be TOO packed on Halloween. That's my vote, actually because now I have a sudden craving for thin fries and chili. :D

The biggest issue with using a restaurant like that is power supply (also space, but mostly power).

We'd need access to outlets to run computers. Sure, someone could bring a power strip, but if we have a large turnout, that could prove to be a problem.

Hey people! I talked to the folks here at Drury about using the downunder for the kick-off party; there's nothing else scheduled for that time down here (I'm actually down here right now...), and I told them probably 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM since that's what's on the official schedule, but it shouldn't be an issue if it runs a little late --- there's very likely not going to be anyone else down here, since no one uses this place anyway :P

There's plenty of seating; assuming normal person-to-chair ratios, the fancy, nice couches provide enough for 28 people, and there's plenty of other (slightly less comfortable) options, and tiny people can increase the total that can be on couches if need be, and if we need to use them there's 52 chairs besides the comfy couches. There's various tables, including three large circular coffee-tableish things, a couple of three-person tables and two fivish-person tables. There's one large rectangular table as well.

For pre-nano festivities, there's two pool tables, a huge TV with a full entertainment center, a projector with computer hook-ups and a ping-pong table. There's two soda machines, one with soda and one with healthy stuff for you weirdos who don't want to be sick in the morning (what's the deal with that? C'mon!), and restrooms down the hall. The CX in Springfield Hall is open until 11 (grill until 10:45). It might make sense to start there, though I'm not sure how busy they are on Saturday nights. Then again, they probably won't be as busy because it's Halloween; I'll ask about that tomorrow at work.

I think that about covers most of the relevant stuff, unless Robert or Gayle has somethin' else to say about it. Is this still looking like the best location?

It looks good for me. I'll want Robert to weigh in, of course, but if he's happy with the set-up, I'm happy with it.

Thanks for putting in the leg work! Have a party hat!

Sounds like a plan to me!

Also, if people attending could bring a form of beverage (soda) or a snack food (chips, cookies, candy, etc.) with them, that'd be awesome. If you can't, that's fine too, you're still more than welcome to come and write your fingers off!

The idea of strapping me into a party hat is tremendously disturbing.

Oh! One more thing to add.

If you RSVP as planning to attend the Write In, can you please also post what snack food/drink item (if any) you're planning on bringing?

This will prevent people from doubling up on items and we can kind of spread things around better. I'm going to be bringing the plates and cups, along with some tortilla chips and salsa.

Hey guys,

Just want to give a heads up, but on Saturdays, the CX is only open from 12:00 to 5:00pm, that's it. Plan accordingly.

I'll also be there, not sure what I'll bring as far as snack food, but I'll work that out later on.

Also, please bring a power strip, and if anyone has an extension cord, I know that'll help. I'll probably sneak over to the Downunder sometime this week to reorganize it for maximum NaNofication.

To add to the procrastination factor, I'll bring my Rock Band setup for pre-writing fun if I'm back from Evil Dead before 11:00pm.

I'll also be bringing some form of entertainment for Pre-NaNo fun. Most likely DJ Hero.

Seriously, only until 5? I thought it was open the same hours as weekdays.

Also, what console and games do you have? There's at least one other person I've wrangled into this at Drury with Beatles Rock Band and possibly other stuff (I don't know his exact setup) that could theoretically have that.

I'll bring a couple of diet soda 2 liters. Maybe Dr. Pepper and a Mt. Dew.
See ya then!

It's official, I'm coming!

I can bring many different kinds of cookies, but can some of you please tell me which you prefer so none go to waste? POSSIBILITIES INCLUDE; certified-orgasmic peanut butter, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, double oh my god chocolate, banananananananana bread, cracked sugar, and raspberry thumbprint.

crying - all of those sound DELICIOUS. I have no qualms with you bringing any of them. I think they'll get scarfed down by all of us.

Hello! As my friend LeishaNerdfighter already said, I'll be attending the kick off this year! :D

I was going to bring cookies, but now I'm seriously doubting my ability to make cookies that will stand up next to or even near cryinglightning's promised selection of deliciousness. :/ It'll be fun no matter what though!! :D :D :D (I cannot put enough of those little grin face to express my excitement for nano this year!!!)

And I was also curious how much emphasis is being put on the Halloween/costume party aspect of this shindig. How many people think they're going to dress up?

No alcohol, as we have some under 21-ers who may be coming to the festivities, and I don't want to find out the hard way what it's like to NaNo first day while waiting for bail.

Does anybody live near the Dillon's on Sunshine who's willing to transport a harmless stranger dressed like a goldfish? I'd like to go but I honestly don't trust myself to bike all the way to Drury, stay until 2, and then bike home sleep-deprived.

I survived, guys. e_e My teefs, theys gooooone... At least I'm not drooling blood any more? And I'm not really in pain, either, so I might not have to use those awesome drugs the dentist prescribed for me. Haha. ... But yeah, I should be okay for the write-in. *nods sagely*

Just PM'ed you, hon. And I'll happily ferry you home at whatever your end of the night is so that your parents can stay in their nice warm house. Glad you're feeling so good! Slightly jealous, but that's a different matter [I am a baby when it comes to dental pain].
