Ok, to pass time while waiting for the kick off party and midnight write-in: Favorite Quotes from books?

Here is one of mine in a book I just finished:

No one ever does live happily ever after, but we leave the children to find that out for themselves.

STEPHEN KING, Wolves of the Calla (Dark Tower V)

I'm constantly jotting down favorite phrases from books as I run across them, but my all-time favorite remains:

Quote:
Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks!

Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough for Love

Some of my favorites:

"Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face."
Said by Harry Dresden in Jim Butcher's "Storm Front"

"I still can't believe that you came to the Vampire's Masqerade Ball dressed as a vampire."
Said to Harry Dresden in Jim Butcher's "Grave Peril"

"Never underestimate the power of human stupidity."
Robert A. Heinlein

"I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do. "
Robert A. Heinlein, "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"

"Rule #4: Blades don't need reloading."
Max Brooks, "The Zombie Survival Guide"

"I have sinned enough against the world. Teaching magic to a kender would ensure my damnation."
Said by Raistlin Majere in "Dragons of Summer Flame"

"There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee."
From "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service

"If you're going to be an explorer, you have to trust the Universe"
said by Elana in "The Far Side of Evil" by Sylvania Enoplahl.

I liked it so much I put it in the front of my planning calendar as a daily reminder (or in my case a quarterly reminder, as I constantly forget to use and then lose my calendar. Thankfully it keeps coming back to me)

And this is a horrible post!!! Horrible I say.... I'm now so tempted to borrow all the Jim Butcher books from my ex and re-read them all (I think there's a new one I've not read yet)... lucky him he wasn't home last night when I read this post, or I'd be calling in sick to work in a reading frenzy LOL.

"Only to the extent that we expose ourselves over and over to annihilation can that which is indestructible be found in us"
Quoted in Pema Chodron's book "When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times. (The author had the saying hanging above her desk. Not sure where the words actually came from)

My most recent favorite line is also from Jim Butcher's Dead Beat:

Ramirez's grin returned. "Everyone else who lets me ride on their dinosaur calls me Carlos."

"The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself." --The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde

"Shit is a more onerous theological problem than is evil. Since God gave man freedom, we can, if need be, accept the idea that He is not responsible for man’s crimes. The responsibility for shit, however, rests entirely with Him, the Creator of Man." --"The Unbearable Lightness of Being", by Milan Kundera

Ok. so it's not from a book. But it's still my all time favorite...well, my current favorite...

Castle: "I'm a Space Cowboy"
Alexis: "There are no cows in space dad. Isn't that from 5 years ago?"
~ From the hit show "Castle" on ABC starring Nathan Fillion.

A perfect show to watch before, during and after NaNo. http://www.castletv.net

It's a reference to Firefly. Nathan Fillion was wearing his outfit as Captain Malcom Reynolds. Grr Argg! *laughs wildly*

This probably isn't nearly as funny to anyone who hasn't read her series, but it's from Kelley Armstrong's most recent book, Frostbitten.

My favorite character, Clay (a werewolf who tends to be a little more wolf than human, is accused of lurking)

"I don't lurk."

ok, another Dark Tower/Stephen King quote, this one from book two, "The Drawing of the Three": "'We all die in time,' the gunslinger said. 'It's not just the world that moves on.' 'But we will be magnificent.'"

"Nature! We are surrounded and embraced by her: powerless to separate ourselves from her, and powerless to penetrate beyond her. Without asking, or warning, she snatches us up into her circling dance, and whirls us on until we are tired, and drop from her arms." - J. W. Von Goethe, Nature

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws." - Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

"Brain douche." - Peter Manson, Adjunct

"There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it." - C. S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia

"Language is my whore, my mistress, my wife, my pen-friend, my check-out girl." - Stephen Fry, A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie

Do you follow Nathan Fillion's Twitter? It's pretty much the only reason I have an account. He's just as adorable and funny in type as he is on camera. And for the unbelievers out there, he likes to take * candid pictures* of himself. mmmmm.....

I do! I follow Elisha Dushku too. They're quite a wild duo outside of the tv shows. (Not meaning they're a couple)
