"Philadelphia: Known for ambitious writing sessions since 1776."
We must top that. It will be difficult, because that one's pretty excellent. I know that I won't be able to think of something clever all on my own, so it must be a group effort!
The "About Us" appears under the name of our regional forum on the main Forums page. Currently, ours is "South Jersey: where we write, or else", because I couldn't think of anything. (Sorry about that.)
So, what should it be? Suggestions, suggestions!

There is a highway that runs through CH and Haddonfield called Old King's Highway (now King's Highway). New Jersey was still British during the Revolution so why don't we make a clever joke about King George. :P Something about the New Jersey Colony being around since the 1600s.

I'm just going to toss out some random thoughts in case any of them spark an idea in someone else.
What are some things South Jersey is known for or things that are characteristic of South Jersey?
- Pine Barrens
- Jersey Devil
- cranberries and blueberries
- Wawa's
- being less populous than most of the rest of the state ("Because what else are we going to do around here?")
- cedar water (okay, so that one might be kind of obscure/hard to come up with anything on)
- hoagies (because people call them different things all over the place)
... that's what I could think of off the top of my head. Anyone else want to add to the list, or use something there to inspire a catchy "about us" blurb? I'll keep mulling the problem over as well....

I love the Jersey Devil idea! Let's keep thinking along those lines. Has to do with writing... (I may seriously do research on the Jersey Devil. This is how much I want our "About Us" to be good.)

Apparently there are two families from whom the Jersey Devil is said to potentially have descended, and one of my friends is descended from one of the women who has been put forth as a possibility for the Jersey Devil's mother.
The basic legend as I recall it is that a woman (I've often heard the name as Elizabeth or Betsy Leeds, though I think the legend has been put forth with other names as well) was the mother of twelve children and was about to give birth to her thirteenth when she said "The devil take this one!" or something along those lines. As soon as the child was born, it ran off into the woods of the Pine Barrens. Now to look at some websites...
http://www.prairieghosts.com/jerseydevil.html
Gives the name of Jane Leeds as the mother of the devil, and talks about how elusive the creature is and how people have tried to exorcise it several times. Maybe something along the line of "Where our plots are almost as elusive as the Jersey Devil" or "Where the desire to write is almost as impossible to exorcise as the Jersey Devil."
Also, January 1909 was apparently the best time for Jersey Devil sighting, as thousands of people from a variety of townships reported seeing the creature.
And a couple more websites with stories and such:

"South Jersey, where getting between writers and their goals is as foolhardy as taking French fries from a seagull."
Too wordy? How about...
"South Jersey -- because writing's more fun under the Boardwalk."
Or perhaps...
"South Jersey: When the shoobies go home, the novelists seize control!"

Maybe a list of things followed by the state slogan.....

"Atlantic City, Jersey Devil sightings, and adventurous novelists: come see for yourself"

I write Jersey best.
finally,
What did Willa Cather, James Baldwin and Michael Crighton all have in common?
None of them were from Jersey.
What do Dickie Philips, Prissy Cornwall and Pee Wee Deaver have in common?
They're all from Jersey.
Beyong lies the Hub - Dickie Philips. "Turnpike, exit 9A. You can't miss it."
From Potted Meat - Prissy Cornwall - "Flatulence! I gasped and read on."
The Groaning Monkey - Pee Wee Deaver - "Face it, the creature's just not that into you."
"Slogans? We don't need no stinkin' slogans!"
