I admit it. I have no car, but it would be great to participate in a write-in. (There are TONS of Starbucks here to hang out in.) If nothing official could be planned, at least something under the table could be possibly worked out. :)

Let me know!

I live in the Beach Park area, about 5-10 minutes away from downtown. My car's a bit finicky (71 VW Beetle), but it could handle a trip like that.

I feel your pain! I don't have a car of my own either and typically end up having to borrow. But I'm definitely planning on having a few write-ins in the downtown area, Channelside if I can wing it, and perhaps that seriously huge library down there. Downtown is pretty central for everyone since it's near 275 and I-4. Also, if you're feeling brave one day and want to see if one of your favorite hang-outs will let us crash there for a day, go right ahead! Let me know and I'll put it on the official calendar!

The Germany library is so huge. 2 stories plus an extender. I love it! Channelside or there sounds great. I'll give you both my number in a private message since I'm trying to limit computer time this month (catching up on studies.) :P

Hi!

I'm Michaela, a.k.a. fineartfan, 44, and I live in Tarpon Springs. I won Nano in 2007, but then never finished the novel, which is a shame, because it was only halfway done after Nano.

Last year, I sat out, but I missed it, so I'm going to attempt a short novel for a change in this year's Nano.

Working title: Privacy Settings: Only Friends

Synopsis:

Main character: widow, 39, one 15-year old son, Matt

Husband, Jorge, died 4 years ago in car accident, while getting Chocolate Trinity ice cream from the store, because he had a craving. He reached down to sneak a plastic spoonful of the ice cream and in that moment of inattention, wrapped his car around a tree.

Whole novel is set on Facebook, using wall posts, private messages, chats, and links to communicate the widow’s story as she re-enters the dating field and finds out who her real friends are.

I figure I may as well use my facebooking experience in this genre, probably will be labeled as chick lit if it gets done.

I hope someone can meet in Northern Pinellas county some time during Nano.

Best of luck to everyone!

Michaela

ooh, that makes me think of a meg cabot book, boy meets girl. the entire novel was comprised out of e-mails, office memo's and chats. but your idea sounds like it's leaning a little more on the emotional side. wish you best of luck and look forward to getting the chance to hear more!

Cars!! They can be such a pain and are nearly necessary in this area with as spread out as it is!

I'm up in Carrollwood, but I can get to the downtown area without a problem. (I have one running car and one limper. We just won't discuss the others.)

Let me know if you do a write in any where and I'll see if it works with my schedule!

I am located in the South Tampa area, just a few streets north of the MacDill Air Force Base. A write-in sounds great, if I had a laptop. :( Alas, I'm not big on handwriting than transferring to a computer. It's like doing twice the word count for only half the words.

I used to feel the exact same way until one day I had what was nearly an epiphany... while sitting waiting for a table in a restaurant. Not only did I have the idea that would have finished the piece I was working on, but I also had the exact syntax worked out and everything. So I figured I'd have to type it up later anyway, why waste energy writing it down... all I had to do was remember it, right? By the time I got home, shooters at the bar and dinner conversation had turned it to slush in my brain. Needless to say, I never go anywhere without at least a small notepad and a pen now.

I don't mind writing down ideas and what not, but ... I just have a hard time with lengthy bits of prose or dialog. I guess we just get so used to living in a typing age. I even have a hard time actually sitting down and handwriting for long periods of time. It actually hurts my hands. Just the other day I wanted to go and make a recipe box and write down a few of my recipes since I wanted to have easy access while in the kitchen, and after only a few cards my hands were aching. Sad.

Germany library sounds good. With transportattion an issue for some, the city bus goes right up to it. If you guys decide on a write in at the library, please let me know.

I don't have a laptop, but I would love to socialize with some fellow Nano'ers. I work at the Forum & volunteer at the Aquarium, so I will be in the Channelside district frequently.

I work in Ybor so there or downtown works for me very well. The Ybor Starbucks is now a Jeoffrey's with lovely coffee and WiFi.

My oldest child works at Champions at the Channelside Marriott, if anyone wants to go that route.

I live in South Tampa too. Interbay and MacDill. I would be up for a meet near here. This is my first NaNoWriMo, I did participate in JulNoWriMo this year - I won.

Everyone awesome on your word counts, etc. If you'd like to meet in for a write-in, let me know! :) I know some of you said you don't have computers, so it would be convenient to meet at the library. They have loads of computers there. I can't always come check these forums, so either:

send me a personal message here
send me an email via cstickler@ut.edu
or if you're really daring, you can text me: 813-294-0832

Either way, let me know! :)

Thank you everyone!

I had said I would be there, but it turns out I have H1N1, so can't go anywhere until the 11th. Happy writing, all.

Ouch. Yeah H1N1 really brought me down, too. I hope you're feeling better and keeping that word count up! :)

By the way everyone, how are Thursdays looking for you guys? We all could meet up at a coffee place or whatnot near downtown/channelside/ybor.

Let me know by sending an email to cstickler@ut.edu because forums are way too distracting to check up on everyday. :P
