It looks like the consensus of the early arrivals, at least, is a 5 p.m. Monday eve gathering on the OSU campus for write-ins. Go you! I'll add that to the calendar.

Eventually I will need a more specific location; "meet us in the lobby" doesn't do any good for someone whose class runs a half-hour into your writing time, and not everyone will scroll through the conversation threads to find out where to go. If you could give me a spot after the Oct. 26 gathering? That would be grand.

The Atrium-y area Miriamele refers to ... is that on the third floor? What I call the ground or main floor, the one with the main entrance off the big lawn, is the *SECOND* floor. (Don't blame me, I didn't set the numbers in the building! *grin*) The coffeeshop is on the first floor. It can be confusing if people are accustomed to using different entrances. Okay, it's just plain confusing.

I had thought people were meeting on the third floor last year but looking at the map I can't see an atrium area. Mirimele, can you tell me where on this map of the third floor it's located?

There's a fourth-floor circular 'quiet study" area at the bottom left of this map that looks like the area I thought people were using, but I doubt you were using a quiet study space.

Egad. I've been IN that building I don't know how many times, you'd think I'd know it better than that! Obviously time to go check out some books.

Mondays aren't available for me, so I can't join you. But I've ridden a bike to campus from south town for the better part of a year so I can understand how a student without a car would dislike riding in the dark and rain to the downtown events. (Been there, done that. Meh.) That said, you might want to discuss a carpool to get to the Kickoff at Woodstock's. I'd really hate for people to miss out on pizza!

You know? Honestly? I'm so confused by these maps. I really had no idea where I was going last year. I think I ended up sitting by myself at one of the tables toward the bottom of the map, along the bottom wall beneath the documents/pz-pr section on the 3/4th maps. I don't remember what floor.

haha

SO I think you make a good point. We should all meet on the SECOND floor by circulation or even in the copy room since that's easy to find. LOL And then decide from there, linking back to the correct floor map so that's very clear to people.

I THINK I was on the third floor though because you could look down and see people but other than that, I'm pretty clueless. I've only ever really been on the second floor of the library other than that time.

So yeah, what does everyone else think about this?

Okay. So we meet on the... GROUND floor, which is the SECOND floor, yes? I like the copy room idea; it will keep us from scattering, and then we can scope out a writing spot from there to make official.

This building is such a maze. My boyfriend told me to meet him in the library and it took me 20 minutes to find him. I'll bring a cheap handwritten sign. :P

I think I can find the copy room, so that's great! I'm looking forward to it.

Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, until you're done or want to leave. I'll probably stay one or two hours, though for those tough crunches, it's open until 1 AM most days!

Depends on where they are-- at the downtown Beanery we tend to stay two to three hours, but of course the Beanery closes long before the OSU library does. I know Masamage pulled some pretty late nights at the library last year.

In Albany we'll be wrapping up at 7:30 or 8 because Charlie closes early.

Just to clarify, last year we were indeed meeting on the third floor, which is the one right above the ground floor. If you walk into the main library entrance and look up, you'll see a big hole in the ceiling above you, surrounded by a railing; it's kind of like a loft, and the third floor people can look down and see you walking in. That's where we were.

I'd actually advise against trying to meet on the main floor because it's super crowded!

EDIT: Here it is on the map: BAM

+1 billion points to Masamage. :D

That sounds like a good place to hold our write-ins. Would you advise that we try to meet there on the 26th, or that we stick to the unconfirmed meeting in the copy room idea and then journeying on from there?

Hee hee hee. XD

I dunno! Meeting somewhere easier to find could work, but it does leave out the people who show up late. I think it's probably easiest if everyone just gathers up in the same, stationary place, bringing along as many NaNo-related T-shirts and table signs and laptop stickers as possible so we can recognize each other without randomly tapping strangers on the shoulder.

Another thing is that if the people writing keep an eye on this forum during the write-in, we can spot people coming online and going "help! I can't find you!" and go out to collect them. :)

Oh, and maybe we can tell the people at the circulation desk where we are? Then they could help lost souls find their way, too.

Maybe we could convince them to let us put up signs that would direct people where to go:

Signs are a great idea! We should definitely try for that.

(Aaaaand I'm pretty sure I do remember the forums being about like this, especially pre-November.)

RE: Meeting Place

Okay, so I went into the library today and TOTALLY found the spot Masamage was talking about. You can definitely see it from the main entrance; just come in the doors and look up. I propose we all meet there; I get out of class an hour before the scheduled write-in time, so I can stake out tan obvious table, stick a sign on the railing, and wave at everyone coming in. I'll try to find something distinctive to wear to make it obvious.

Does this work for everyone? Y/N?

Alright, to take distinctive to its extreme, I shall be the girl in the medieval dress with obscenely flowing sleeves. (Kind of like Eowyn's in her first shot in The Two Towers, only green).

Because "the girl in the blue shirt with the laptop" probably won't quite cut it.

SO. Look for the girl in the ridiculously anachronistic dress!

I almost missed it this year, too! It was on a different weekend than usual because of some scheduling issues, which really sucks because my friend was visiting from England. She'd gone the year before and LOVED it, and was sad she was leaving too soon to make it again. But next year it'll be on the second weekend of September again.

It was great, sorry you missed it!

Yay for write-in today!! *throws pixel confetti* I'll be keeping an eye out for ya! Coming straight over from work. Blargh. : ) I'm looking forward to it though.

Also I just read what you wrote about where to meet. I find it hilarious that I missed it last year. I went up a floor b/c I didn't realize how the floor numbering worked in that building. D'oh!

Can't wait to see everyone. : )

Yay, I'm glad you guys have zeroed in on the location! :D That's gonna be such fun.

It looks like I won't be able to make it in person tonight, but I'll be there in spirit, plotting away! I'm feeling pretty sick, but don't worry, 'cause it's nothing you can catch when you see me on Thursday--just morning sickness. :)

(Today is my first day spreading the word to the public about that. So yup! This'll be my first pregnant NaNo! Think up some good ideas, baby!)

Have fun out there~

So I joined NaNoWriMo on Oct 29th (when I first heard about it) and I would love to do an OSU Write in, but I have no clue where they are or what time.

Is there a calendar I could look at or something? That gives the location, date, and time?

Thanks!

Stephanie

I guess there isn't really a post that says it; it's kind of mean to make people read the entire thread just to find that out. :)

We're meeting every Monday at 5:00 (that's PM, of course, we're not that crazy) in the Atrium. If you go in the front main entrance and look up, you'll see a railing with a few tables behind it. That's where we'll be!

To get there, walk straight in, turn right down the main corridor, take the elevator up to Level THREE, take a left down the corridor, and then left where you see the tables and railing overlooking the entrance! We'll try to have a sign or two. :)

Hope to see you there!

I'm here! I don't see anyone else I recognize, but I have a table! I also have glasses and I'm wearing a NaNo shirt!
