What's Your goal this year?
my overall goal is 100,000 words, maybe spread between two novels if necessary
that is:
3333.3 words per day
Taking in to account school and judo and church and things like that, I'll have an average of 5 hours if every day goes perfectly as planned.
So...666.6 words per hour.
11.1 words per minute.
.185 words per second.
So, I'm not sure if i can manage to get 3.3k words per day, but i have managed a peak of 8k words in a day. therefore, i hope for at least 2500 words every day. if i can manage that, it'll be 75,000 words.
which is:
500 words per hour.
8.3 words per minute.
.139 words per second.
seems manageable, though i must admit that it can take me half an hour to write 25 words when i'm fighting with the plot.

I wish you luck! 100k is a lot, but it would be pretty awesome if you got there. I'm cheering for you!
Personally I'd like to finish my novel in 30 days, but I'm not sure how many words it will be. If it drags on as long as my last one I might not even have a chance, but I would still be happy if I got upwards of 60k or so. I should be able to do that. Last year I hadn't even heard of NaNo until the 8th of November, but I still got to 50k. So 60 should be cake! Emphasis on the 'should.'
100k words doesn't seem so daunting when it's only .185 words per second. But then I think about it and remember just how hard it would be.

85,000 is my goal this year. Which means nearly 5K per writing day (I think I figured I'd have 19 days that I could actually write... realistically, it will be more than that, but I try to do my "when I'll have time" estimates on the very conservative side). So, yeah, gulp. Will need to stay focused!
----------Remember -- no matter how many or how few words bleed from your fingertips, by Nov. 30 you'll have written more of a a novel than most people write in a lifetime. Keep writing! Because darn it, it's fun!

Yea-5k words per day is a little daunting. I forgot about the thanlsgiving holiday week...my wife and I haven't decided if we're staying up here or going down to the hometown...if we go, that'll be a lot of lost time...oh well...it's a good thing I remembered early...planning ahead :o
----------Last year I think I had 15 or so days that I actually wrote. A lot of times I just couldn't convince myself to turn on my laptop and write.

I'm sticking with 50k, but my daily word goal has always been 2k a day, and more if possible, because if I do that I can cheerfully take Sundays and Thanksgiving off. :D

50k is an honorable goal :) i made 50045 words last year! it was crazy. i had like 49900 words when i submitted it for verification. "Oh Noes," i said to myself, "Where can i fit in 100 words?" So, i opened back up my novel and immediately went into edit mode and lost 45 words before i finally expanded something or other.

I hope to write 3,000 words a day, Monday through Friday, with the occasional Sunday write-in at Grassroots. That should put me at 60,000+ words for the month. This is all in theory, of course. I have no idea if I'll have the time or energy to write that much.
In reality, I'll probably write 35,000 words in the first week and a half and spend the rest of the month stretching out my second act (which, in current outline form simply says, "stuff happens here") to make it to 50,000.

whew. now that i look at it, writing 3000 words a day is looking less likely...at least i have midterms next week instead of the week after :)
----------I have that plot problem too...except i have an intro (MC gets a letter) and an outtro (can't tell you that) but the entire middle is some sort of hazy "okay it seems like an infinite jump from point a to point b...what could happen to make the MC the person he is at the end of the novel?" i hope to throw some magic dust at my laptop and have a novel appear. as a last resort, i'll actually type words.
