Nano starts on a Sunday this year - yay! That means we can all stay up late on Halloween (which some of us do anyway) and get a start at 12:01 Sunday without worrying about work or school that day. I'm very happy about that.

So the kick-off party. I'm thinking Friday night (since some of you may have parties and/or trick-or-treating going on Saturday night), about 6:30 to 8pm at some place friendly to large groups, maybe pizza. Like last year basically since all my creativity is focused on my novel. :) Of course, I am open to suggestions.

What say you?

I'll give it a try. I don't know anyone. Or anything, for that matter.

I think the pizza parlor worked well last year since we had plenty of room to stretch out and be loud. We went to Cataldo's last year - should we go somewhere else? I live in the Southwest. What's the best location for everyone else?

I live down the street from Ridgeview and Bill L Williams, so wherever that is. xD I'm no good with directions.

I think I remember where that pizza place was...

I also live in the Southwest but am okay with pretty much anywhere. Cataldo's worked out pretty well last year but if somewhere else works out better for people...I'm okay with that.

If you're talking about the Cataldo's at Stockdale and S. Real it isn't a Cataldo's anymore. It's Ellis Island Pizza Company now. The name changed this month. Last I saw they hadn't changed the exterior signs yet but they could by the 30th. I wouldn't want anyone who hasn't been there to get confused.

If you meant the Cataldo's on Roberts, it's still Cataldo's.

For my nickel the food at Ellis Island isn't as good as it used to be, but I only tried the lunch buffet. Really I'm content to go anywhere.

Yep, it was the Cataldo's on Stockdale & S. Real. So it's changed again, huh? What's this new one make...the fourth pizza place to give it a go there?

Anyhoo, my response remains the same...wherever people want to meet up is good by me.

I'm going to toss another place out there, Pizzaville USA on Oak.

I've only been there once, that I can remember, but, as far as I can remember, they had lots of room.

It was the middle of the day, and I only sampled a small bit of cold pizza, so someone would need to check it out before we commit.

I would check it out myself, but I’m getting my bout with the flu over with now, instead of waiting for November.

It seemed to me that Cataldo's was a little cramped, probably because I showed up late, which made it difficult for me to mooch some of everyone's pizza.

However, I am fine with wherever everyone else wants to go.

I remember that Pizzaville having decent fare. It's been ... about 12 years since I've been inside, though. It's not so far from work that I couldn't poke my head in if folks are interested.

Some of these places have side rooms that can be had for the asking, as long as no one's got them reserved. I know Ellis Island has one, but someone would have to check availability.

I strongarmed a couple of coworkers into having lunch at Pizzaville USA. There's a side room, but it can't be reserved on Mondays or Fridays. I asked and was told that Friday nights are very crowded.

They make a good pizza, thin crust. The fountain drinks are Coke products and they tap about seven or eight beers. There's no salad bar but you can order a typical green salad from the kitchen.

If it's as busy as they said on Friday nights it's probably not the best choice, but my coworkers and I will be adding it to our pool of decent lunch spots.

Thanks for checking it out for us, OneTwenty!

I think any place we may end up will probably be busy, Friday night and all. Anyone have an opinion about the Rusty's on Ming? Or Tony's on California?

Quite probably true.

If I had to bet on a 'least likely to be crowded' it would probably be that Rusty's on Ming.

Tony's makes great pizza. The prices are nice and they're generous with the toppings.

I'm afraid I'm beginning to sound like a guy who knows far too much about pizza in Bakersfield. It's a side effect of having lived here for over 30 years. I've even caught myself giving directions by where things 'used to be' ...

Tony's isn't exactly spacious. The Rusty's at Ming and Ashe has a lot more room and it's been dead every time I've eaten there.

Won't be able to make it to the kick off party, but I'm happy to be participating this year in the Bakersfield area as I have just moved here. Good luck to you all! Eat some pizza for me.
