For four years the war has been going on and LocoFoCo has come out triumphantly for three of the battles. Now we head into the 2009 battle of WWN (World War NaNo). As the history of all wars go there will be escalation. Let's get down to the nitty gritty.

The battle will be judged under two categories: 1) average number of winners per region and 2) average word count. Yes LocoFoCo, we will even out the battlefield by competing through averages. We wouldn't want anyone to say that life isn't fair.

To be an official participate you must reply to this thread in the affirmative by Friday, November 13th. Your response can be as simple as "I'm in."

Now for the gentle reminder (although I know that no one in our region needs this stated) this may be WWN but keep trash talk friendly, as we don't know who might be reading the forums, and we don't want to offend anyone.

After some discussion between our regions we are going to try something new. Everyone as always is welcome to participate in this battle, but if you are willing and able to make a small donation to the cause it will be collected and counted. I will take contributions as small as $.01. It all adds up. Then once a winner is determined in December the collection of donations will be sent to NaNo in the winning regions name. It does not matter if one region donates more than another as the money is going to a good cause,

Oh and one last item for LocoFoCo participants, in addition to finishing your 50k and having the higher avg word count you must include in your novel somewhere the phrase "Greeley Stinks" or something like it. Be creative on this one.

I look for ward to the competition this year as last year it spurred me on to greater and greater heights, since the race was as close as it has ever been. So here I am putting in my bid for the war.

LocoFoCo let's gear up and get this done.

Just so you can easily see where the rotten smelling enemy is at:

I helped FoCo trounce Greeley last year. I'm more than ready to do it again. Since I'm shooting for 100k this year, I should be able to contribute significantly to the average word count.

(yes, that means I'm in)

I'm so excited for this! Go FoCo!

I'm in.

And not even the worst wind blowing off of Greeley will detour me in my quest to whomp them this year, OR to figure out how to slip that phrase into my fanfic. (Which will be a challenge; Greeley doesn't exist in Suikoden, but I'm certain I will find a way!)

I'm in. Why not? In for a penny, in for a pound and all that jazz. I'm sure I can figure out a way to fit in the offensive stenches that Greeley has to offer at least once.

Greeley is going down! I went to high school there and I would like nothing more than to stomp my old stomping grounds. :)

Should be fun.

I'm in! Should be fun. I have a friend in Greeley. Nothing like a little friendly competition. Including the phrase Greeley Stinks though might be tricky in a fantasy novel. ;)

Nonsense -- it's easy. The "Greeley stinks" tradition arose a few years ago; I think it was the first year of the Fort Collins vs. Greeley word count war. I was writing a swords and sorcery fantasy novel, and ended up with an orkish warrior shouting "By the stench of Greeley!"

Nobody said "Greeley" had to be a town in northern Colorado in your story. If you feel the spirit move you, make Greeley into whatever will fit within the context of your tale -- or just make it a throw-away comment you'll edit out later. You could always just skip the traditional Greeley insult, of course. I don't think I used any reference to Greeley stinking last year and, unless things have gotten really draconian when I wasn't looking, I'm pretty sure your word count will still be counted in the word war even if you don't toss a friendly jibe at our stenchful neighbors.

By the way, this is not a statement of my intent to participate in the word count war with Greeley. I still haven't decided for sure whether I'll participate in NaNoWriMo at all this year. I'm just tryin' ta help out with the inspiration.

Zomby13, Greeley won in 2006. Fort Collins won the last two years. Just so the facts are straight. Hope you all manage to beat Greeley again this year! Wish I could help. Boston doesn't have a war with anyone, sadly. Too many students, not enough region loyalty.

I feel like I need to make up for my previous performance. I only broke 20,000 words that year. I started out strong but got bogged down by a gaping plot defect. Trying again this year for FoCo.

Hey hey hey! We won once! Score is FoCo: 3, Greeley: 1. You guys were so sad we beat you that one time that we've gone easy on you the past few years. We didn't want anyone to cry too much, after all. Or perhaps it would make victory that much better this year because that's happening, you know.

I'm in! this has been such a good motivator for me the past two years, and it's fun helping to smoosh Greeley... hehe.

by the way, am I allowed to drop out within the first week of november if I just don't think I can do it?

Yes you can. Just make it clear on the forum that you have dropped out.

Oh you know I'm in. After crossing the finish line four years in a row, and trouncing the city of stench three of those years, I wouldn't have it any other way. If I can do it last year while finishing my degree, I'm sure I can do it this year without breaking a sweat. So yes, you can count on me, both in the spirit of competition and for another win. The gauntlet has been thrown! Go team FoCo!!!

I just had a moment of brilliance...I think. I was running short on names for the horses in my novel, so Greeley it is! A flatulent horse should give me many, many opportunities to insert "Greeley stinks" into my novel.

I'm in on the condition that I may drop out. In between marching band, actual band, every AP offered to my grade, high school itself, and a new boyfriend; there may not be enough of my soul left to feed to NaNoWriMo as well. ;)

But I may need to split "Greeley Stinks" across a chapter break to preserve verisimilitude.

Well of course I'm in. I wanted to do this last year, even though I took a year off of NaNo (last year was not happy >.<). I'm in this year and look forward to the whole "Greeley stinks" because if nothing else, then it helps the word count, right? Go FoCo!
