Ok, good idea. and it'll help show our stats and encourage us to know ourselves. Are you entering for this November? I fully intend to. I just saw stuff about this competition today. It's a good initiative.

I'm new to this too, my friend showed me this site and i thought it would be a good idea to do. I've been writing for a long time, I usually write short stories that are about 2-7 pages. There is one novel I started writing last summer, I was writing it for about a month and a half, got up 40,000 words in it. I'm not gonna cheat though and use it to help get to the 50,000 word goal. I have another idea for it and hopefully it will make it. Approximately 2,000 words a day will do it to get to the goal with in the time span we have. =]

My friend just told me about this. I'm really excited but it's kind of daunting. I'm not going to be sleeping for the next month I think.

Is everyone in this forum African?

I'm African American from California but live in Georgia now. I've always been very interested in Africa. And actually my story idea involves Africans from what is now present day Benin.

I joined this forum to hopefully make some friends and also in the event I need clarification on African customs and religion (should the need arise). I know that "African" is rather monolithic and that each area is different, so for the most part, I'll be speaking in generalities.

I would definitely appreciate any help anyone might be able to provide.

Thanks, Aungelic

Nice to meet everyone. I live in Los Angeles, but I am writing a novel with an African setting. Hope I can learn a few things from those who have done it before.

Hey all, I live in Tete, Mozambique and am thinking about giving it a shot. I had fun last year plotting out a novel but never got very far on my word count. I'll be in Joberg next week when this starts and look forward to adding some South African color.

Hey all, looking forward to seeing everyone's progress! I'm new to NaWriMo, and I just hope I can actually get through such a tough task!

Like another poster here, I'm African American, and I'd like to learn about West African cultures, more specifically, Yoruba, Asante, Igbo, and those from Benin and Togo.

I've done much research for the novel I'm trying to write that takes place in a fantasy version of Africa. However, I've forgotten some of my research. lol

Looking to speak to some of you! If you feel like swapping ideas or just general motivation or conversation, don't be afraid to friend me!

Hi everyone, I'm from Kampala, Uganda. I've tried this twice before and not done very well at all but I'm giving it a go again. I hope i'll get further this time. Having a full time job and writing is my biggest challenge. Any ideas anyone?

Hello, I'm Serubiri from Kampala Uganda. Loves to read but writing comes in with the weather; and since this is africa, writing comes in with the heavy rains, which are pouring still. There is so much trouble in our country; there is trouble in the family. What about the african family? This is something that exists longer than colonialism. It exists longer than any religion, new or old in africa, and it exists past tribe. All the african dictators have come from an african family, and what is the meaning of this? What are the sentiments of the african family? What are the key words, in an african family? Because, I have a feeling that dreams come from the family. It is the first breach of personal space in anyone's lifetime, and this has remarkable effect on the dreams in one. DREAMING in africa means what? Does it mean US Citizenship? Does it mean a Passport to the Middle East or asia? Hong Kong? Does it mean Immigration? Does dreaming mean Hip-Hop & Hip-Hop lifestyles? cause, I'm a great listener of Jazz, and the effect African-American music has had on The World at large is mesmerizing. Who cares about Language anymore? Who cares about the landscape, the flat topped 'plateaus' that are spread like mushrooms across central uganda. I mean, who cares about life anymore? I'm not talking about money, I'm not talking about Japanese Cars, I'm not talking about corruption, I'm not talking about deforestation, I'm not talking wasted resources, I'm not talking all the jargon we don't even listen to anymore because of how used we are ... I'm saying Life. as simple and illustrated the word is. I'm taking about how people in this country happened to exist on these plateaus, on the lake shores, and in the planes ... how did you arrive?

Hi Aungelic, I am American and living in Tunisia, I do not know the numbers but we are mostly Arab Muslims, The cultural differences are vast in this tiny country mixing old ancient tribal traditions with the new and modern, it is a sort of clash of the titans in this country but none the less surrounded by the beauty of the beaches at one end and the desert at the other, we are north wedged between Algeria and Libya and do get lots of tourists from Europe, many of our friends are now residents of France but still keep in touch, the view from my window is Mt .Chambi and we have a rather extensive preserve for Roman ruins near my city of Kasserine, welcome and hope to see you around.

I was educated to be a Slovenian journalist but ended up being a Ugandan development worker and a founder of www.edirisa.org. I have been having a story on my mind for years, so this is my honest attempt to book some time every day and get it out.

I've seen some Ugandan participants posting - would be nice to link up!

Hi guys, I'm in Marin County California, originally from England. My father was Nigerian (he passed) and I have brothers and sisters there .My mother was British. I have not been on African soil since 1977. Shame on me. Lack of funds and raising kids has kept me away. I wanted to take tis opportunity to connect with fellow Africans, This is my first year attempting this 'radical free write' . I look forward to reading your posts. Here's to long and happy sentences!
