The Official South Jersey NaNoWriMo Kickoff Party will be held from 7pm to 9pm on Friday October 23rd at Casciano’s Coffee Bar and Sweetery in Hammonton.

Casciano’s Coffee Bar and Sweetery
212 Bellevue Avenue (Rt. 54)
Hammonton, NJ 08037
609-561-2600
http://www.cascianocoffee.com

But you all knew that, right? So, who's going? I have at the moment some definite YES's, and a bunch of other people who are planning on coming. Are YOU coming? (Say yes, say yes! We'd love to see you!)

If you have any questions or concerns about the Kickoff, feel free to ask here.

IMPORTANT CHANGE:
I might be SLIGHTLY late to the party due to car issues! If you'd like to change your arrival time to 7:15-7:30, I'll probably be there and all set up, waiting for you. If you don't mind perhaps being the first to arrive, then by all means, keep it at 7pm! It is a coffee shop, after all. Get some coffee, relax, and I'll be there as soon as humanly possibly with stickers and excitement.

I hope to be there - especially if I can manage not to get lost when trying to find the place (though at least I have a GPS to help me out)

I'm hoping to attend, though Hammonton is farther than I can usually drag myself from my comfort zone (I'm in Pleasantville and very much a homebody). Will there be Nano goodies?

Slightly OT: Looks like Casciano is trying to start novel writing ahead of schedule on their website. Somebody should let them know that "Lorem ipsum" doesn't count towards 50K.

EDIT: Hey, is there a dress code for the kickoff? Can we come in our "crazy novelist" outfits, like any NaNo accoutrements from previous years, plus a dash of "slightly insane" so we can get in the mood? I've been watching the Flickr slideshow of other novelist get-togethers, and I would be really psyched to attend if we decide we're all going as our alter-ego weirdo 50K-writing muses or something. Mine doesn't get out enough, I think. I'm too sane most of the year to let her show herself.

There will indeed be NaNo goodies! Although "NaNo goodies" just boils down to the hundreds of NaNoWriMo stickers we've managed to accrue over the past few years. But, still! They are goodies.

(I noticed the Lorem Ipsum thing, too, and was highly amused.)

If you want to come as your slightly insane noveling alter-ego, then by all means! I'm not sure that you can convince everyone else to do it, but you're certainly welcome.

I should definitely be going! It's kind of a far drive for me too, I live in Mays Landing. I get off of work that night at 6, so I'm hoping I'll be able to make it in time, but I'll most likely be fashionably late. I've also never been to Hammonton before, so I'm hoping my GPS doesn't fail me this time!

This is probably a stupid question, but how will I know which people are the NaNoWriMo people in the cafe?

Not stupid at all! We'll be in the back room of the cafe around the big single table there, and probably spilling into the armchairs behind it if there are too many of us. We'll be hard to miss, I promise. I'll also have NaNoWriMo stuff on the table.

Sorry! I didn't know that when I scheduled it. But there's plenty of other events to attend, so don't feel too bad!

IMPORTANT!: I might be a little late tomorrow! I'm sorry! It's due to car trouble that was a complete surprise. If you'd like to change your arrival time to around 7:15, I'll probably be all set up and waiting for you at that point. But at 7:00, I'll probably be just arriving myself, or a few minutes thereafter.

Again, I'm sorry!

Would love to go, but I'm taking the kids to a haunted hayride. (My older son is in Cub Scouts, and this is something that the Boy Scout troop does every year for the younger kids.) Hope everyone has a great time.

I think I'll have to regretfully miss this gathering. A very busy week has just caught up with me in the form of extreme blarghyness - definition provided upon request - and I don't want to overstress myself just before the Thirty Days of Insanity (tm) actually begins. I'll be with you in spirit. Or, more probably, asleep.

I will be sorry not to pick up my allotment of stickers. Perhaps they can be available at future gatherings as well?

Hey Jenn and gang: Great meeting all of you at the Kickoff Party. Quick update on the proposed Ocean City Beach Retreat weekend: Presently playing it by ear, as my best friend in OC, Sue, a GS Parkway toll taker, was involved in a freak accident that resulted in a broken right leg. I've taken on personal nurse duties now that she's been operated on and is out of the hospital, and she's recovering at my place (I've given her my room and I'm sleeping in the guest room). Not sure how long she'll be staying with me, possibly throughout the entire NaNoWriMo, and I'll let you know if the convalescing arrangement changes and the Beach Writing Retreat is do-able. Once again it was great meeting all of you, good luck getting the words down, one day at a time - or Bird by Bird as writer Anne Lamott says in her excellent book by the same name - and catch you on the flip. Best, Joe ("aka Dragon Tattoo")

P.S. If you're on Facebook please feel free to add me as a friend (same name as here but with a space between the e and h) so we can stay in touch and you can check out pics of Sue and my dog Nick (her other personal nurse) as she navigates the road to full-mobility recovery...
