Sooooo, who's interested in entering the Word War this year?
For those who've done it before, you should know that there's going to be a change to the rules this year, we're going to have a minimum team size of five. That isn't normally a problem for a region as big as ours, but just in case, there's also a new rule where regions can get together to produce bigger teams in order to be able to enter.
Oh, and if it's an added incentive, the Oxford ML has intimated that they are interested in returning to the fray this year... :-)
For those who haven't done it before (or have forgotten since last year :-) ) the Word War is 'fought' between all the UK and Ireland regions who are interested in competing. Participants sign up to take part and their word count is then counted towards the region's total. The winning region is the one with the highest *average* word count at the end of the month. Plus there's a secondary prize for the region with the highest percentage of winners from those who originally sign up.
The whole idea is to give everyone another reason to keep writing, because you don't want to let the side down. Having said that, there are mechanisms in place to enable you to drop out without affecting the region if you realise that it's just that bit too much for you.
We always get a lot of positive feedback from those who take part, and hopefully that'll continue this year. :-)

Right, the gauntlet has been thrown down; now just to listen for the sound of pattering feet as all the other regions retreat with their tails between their legs. :-p

After much deliberating, I felt that being in Reading meant that my allegience is with the Oxfordshire camp (I know Reading's actually in Berkshire, but they run write-ins here).
I'm looking forward to getting a good thrashing :)

Hi all,
I know that most of you have said yes here, but if you still mean it, can you head over to the official sign-up thread and take 10 secs to add your name to the list? That way I'll know for sure that you're all still up for it.

Don't want to assume and then have people moan at me. :-)
Thanks.
