Kick-Off Party *DATE & TIME*

Friday 30 Oct is a "probably" for me.

Saturday/Halloween, though, I can't make it.

Thursday 29 Oct I might be able to make if it's after 7pm.

I'm not much of one for write-ins, though, as I prefer to write at my own desk, listening to my own music. Having people around would make me more chatty than productive. :-)

In Colorado Springs, my wife and her friends would reserve rooms at fire stations and police stations around town for crop-meets, birthday parties and other stuff. You could have the room for however long it was available, they had tables and chairs that you could set up, some would allow food and had kitchenettes and fridges to use. At the end you had to put all furniture away, take out the trash and use a vacuum on the room. Not sure about wireless access.

Anyway, I tried to look up the fire station just down the street on 91st, but I cannot find phone numbers for local fire stations??? ... I did find a number for Public information and left a message for a call back. Does anyone know if this type of thing is available here in Tulsa? I know the rooms would occasionally be hard to get, cropping was real big there.

The rooms were always large, lots of tables and chairs ... just bring power strips and pot-luck it!

WOW, thanks Laz! I tried calling the station near my house (#32), and they gave me the number to the Fire Chief. That station does not have one, but according to the fire chief's office, they do have rooms around town and must be scheduled through the TFD Public Info office — Bill French, 596-9420. The woman I talked to was not familiar with the particulars (kitchenettes, food or no food, wireless access ...) but it sounds like Mr. French would know.

I just got off the phone with Tim Smallwood and so long as they have room the Kick-Off/First Write-In will be actually ON 11/1 in the evening some time. I'm also going to find out if the room would be available on Saturday evenings to have a weekly write in held there.

My schedule was wide open, but now my husband's planning to have some family over that weekend, and if it coincides with the Kick-off party I don't know if I'll be able to get away, which is a bummer. If Nov. 1 isn't already firm, then Friday the 30th would probably be better for me. I'm trying to get him to move it back a week, so we'll see. I'd hate to have to miss the kick-off.

I've already got plans on the 1st - actually, pretty much any Sunday is almost always off-limits for me to plan anything. I could make it to a kick-off party on the 30th or the 31st, though.

I can't attend anything until November -- even then, not Sunday nights.
I'm hoping to come to a few of the write-ins...depending on The Hubby's schedule.

I'll so be there! Too bad the other write-ins can't be at the same location, it's much more centralized.

I'll try to come for a while, but I highly doubt I'll make it until 2 am. Too many mornings of being at work at 6 am or earlier have ruined the former night owl I used to be. At least it's right off of I-44 so it'll be a short ride home!

Someone should convince me to come.

I'm curious why there's a posted End time for a place that's open 24 hours a day?

It is scheduled from 11pm-2am so people won't get scared off thinking it will last forever and they will miss something if they leave early. Come and stay as long as you can/want. I will. The IHOP manager didn't say we had to leave at 2 am. It was just a guesstimate of how long the majority is likely to stay. Three hours in the middle of the night is a long time for most people.

3 hours in the middle of the night away from the comfort of your home no less! However if people stay all night more power to them! I personally will be surprised if I manage to stay until 2am! Proud of myself, but very shocked!

I too am SO excited to get together with everyone! I'll have to get there early to try and snag tables together and bring extra table tents to snag tables as people leave! I will get aggressive about it if I have to!

Sadly, I won't be able to make the kick-off party nor many of the write-ins, if any at all thanks to work and no vehicle. I can host mini-write-ins at my tiny apartment. Only a few at a time and there's a five year old to work around. We can see what happens as the month progresses.

The manager said he was reserving a section for us, so he'll already have some tables snagged. ;~D

If we get more people announcing they will come than the estimate, just call and tell him to snag more tables for us. He'll love it!

Where do you live? Maybe someone can carpool with you. I live in S. Tulsa and would be more than happy to pick up a couple of locals providing my 1993 accord doesn't die AGAIN before then! I'm still paying off the $1,200 in repairs from 2 months ago!

Right now it's a definite "maybe" situation.

Pro- It's not far away.
Con- I'm super shy.
Pro- I really want to go, despite such.
Con- My parents will be unable to actually stay up till 2am to pick me up. (It's really easy for me to stay up till heck. 5-7am. Them, not so much.)

*I will have name tags at the kick-off party. They won't be fancy but they'll be functional. What did you think I was going to make you GUESS each other's names?! ;o)

*For the 11pm-12am that we'll be there & can't write I'll have a couple fun activities for us to do!

I am afraid, however, that since the TU game starts at 1, I have already planned on not being in a condition to drive by 11pm, so I doubt that I'll be able to make it to IHOP. (Plus I'd have to somehow get my hands on a laptop before then.)

I *WILL* try to make at least one of the write-ins, just so I can meet everyone face-to-face (and also because Jemima really is totally charming in person, even though she usually kills threads), but most of my participation this month will be merely virtual. (Like Dave, I wind up doing far more chatting than writing when people are present.)
