All,
Sorry for the delay, school is wiping most of my "free" time right now. I have the clubhouse reserved for the 1st from noon to 9pm. I'm going to treat this as a long write in with the typical door prizes, gag gifts, raffle, food... etc.
Address is:
2584 Lillian Ln
Beavercreek, OH 45431
You can also look for the intersection of Lillian Ln and Glenbrook as google maps doesn't seem to know where the number is.
As the last few years, this will be potluck. Please post here if you can bring anything. I will provide cokes and water. The clubhouse has an oven, microwave and fridge. They've remodeled it since last year and I think it's got a nicer set up with better tables and chairs now! Hope to see you all there! It's almost here! Ack!

Me and my cadre of fellow non-posting nano-ers shall be there at some point to join in the festivities! Even if I have to knock them out and drag them there myself!
(Funnily enough, this clubhouse is quite literally five minutes away from where I work. I couldn't help but giggle. Two right turns and I'm there!)
Since this is my first officially official real life type meeting thingie for Nano, and it's all potlucky, what things do folks normally bring? It might be helpful to get a list going so we don't end up with like, nothing but veggie trays and spinach dip.
What? I've totally seen that happen at parties....maybe...

Hi, people usually post here that they'll be coming and what they're bringing. The earlier you decide the better chance of bringing what you have your heart set on. But I don't remember any issues in the past. There are some vegetarians and a few with allergies so you might want to point out if your dish has hidden ingredients.
The potluck runs the gambit from dips and dippers, to pizza, to casseroles and chili, lots of chocolate; mini cheesecakes were very popular last year.

I'll be there and I'll bring something. It would be helpful to find out who has food allergies.

There is no ‘figuring out life..’.
As we age, we are simply gaining clarity by amassing images, ideas, characters and fragments of dialogue, as we imagine the world in which our life exists. Then, we simply write about it.

I will be there...and Walker...I'll plan to bring the same refrigerator potatoes I brought the last couple of years...will just need oven space to cook them in.
I'll also bring some dips and sauces and stuff for snacking...since I have my own inside source on some of that.
I'll also bring over Apples to Apples and VisualEyes for word related fun and plot-inducing hilarity, and let me know if you need anything else. I know I did a bunch for this last year...let me know if you need help, and I'll be there all day.

Oh goodness. This is my second NaNoWriMo, and last year I didn't know about the kick off potluck. I may come this year... Do I just show up with food in hand?

----------Just wondering, from noon to nine, what are the peak hours as far as attendance?
And are there outlets and plenty of tables?

I will probably be there, I talked to my mom about it and she seemed to like the idea, but I don't think that my dad will be nearly as open to it. Let's face it, if your 16 year old told you that they wanted to go to a kick off party for a 30-day noveling challenge that they read about online, it would sound crazy. But the fact of the matter is that this IS crazy, this whole challenge is crazy. If I was a perfectly sane individual, I wouldn't be doing NaNoWriMo in the first place. So with some arm-twisting I might be able to convince him to take me. I think that I might have a better chance if I convince some of my real life friends to go with me. If I do end up going I will be bringing a vegetarian friendly dish, probably vegetarian chili. Are there any other vegetarians in the area?

(Tried to respond once before and it didn't work. I apologize if this appears similar)
Your parents are welcome to come with you and check us out. We are a serious group of writers...but not so serious that we don't have fun. And we're really a lot of fun. It would not be the first time that a parent came with their teenagers to an event to make sure everything was on the up and up. The kick off party is a great time to do some of that; there will be people writing, there will be people helping, there will be lots going on. There will be other newbies there, as well as some seasoned and not-so-seasoned veterans (just kidding) to answer any questions, talk about schedules, and talk with your parents if you have anything we can help you with.

Someone asked about the hours. The primary reason I have it listed from noon to 9pm is for those who wish to have a place all day to write. The majority of the "party" like atmosphere will probably be more like 5-9pm. I'll start the door/gag prizes around 5pm most likely. I have several ideas this year, but I also invite anyone to bring games or other distractions if they wish.
For SilentxxBunny, this is a family friendly event. In the past we have had as young as six years old at the parties and regularly have teens as part of the group. There will be no alcohol or anything "adult only" at the party, and like Addie said, parents are welcome. Non-writers are always welcome to join us!
For those asking about food allergies. Just be safe and if you really want to, bring an index card with what's in the food so people can choose to eat or not (assuming it's not obvious... I think we know what's in Lasagna!)

Thanks for the help, everyone. I talked to my dad about it and he said that it shouldn't be a problem. I think that I am going to try and get some of my fellow wrimos from school to go as well. I am really looking forward to it. I have a very good feeling about this year. Also, I do think I will be bringing the aforementioned vegetarian chili, but I try to live life by the minute. So who knows? :)

That sounds like a strange (stupid) question, but are young children welcome?
I would like to join you guys somewhere during the month, but I have children and I guess I will be the only one to be willing to bring them with me, lol , but that would be great to have a place where we can write, chat and have kids playing together.
Thanks for your reply.

I am not an ML or anything, but based on the above posts, I think that it is safe to assume that young children are welcome. ----------

Young children are welcome. Last year we had a young man take part in the young writers portion of Nano. He was 8 I think? I believe he did about 8k words. Nonwriting kids are welcome at the events and write-ins, too, though there aren't usually too many.
