Hi there people.
I'm Gareth, the ML for Christchurch. (After signing up as such last year to try and fill the shoes of AJ when he headed to Wellington.)
With just two weeks until we all start writing massive amounts of text I figure it's time to try and arrange our first meet-up. Previous years have seen Sunday afternoon meetings at the Arts Centre, in the North Quad near the pool. Mainly because it seemed like the most convenient time for most of those wanting to show up.
With November beginning on a Sunday this year I'm wondering if people would be more interested in meeting on the Saturday (Oct 31) instead, so we don't have to pause our writing on the first day.
Of course, it's all dependant on you guys and when/where you want to meet, so have your say.
Edit (18 Oct): It seems to me that there's enough people that can't make it on the Saturday (or that would find it difficult) that we should just meet on the Sunday afternoon in the Arts Centre.
Which leads to the question of how early in the afternoon?. Last year was 2pm which seemed to be good for everyone. Again, if there's anyone with different ideas have your say.
whiteinc: I've got no idea how many would be interested in the BBQ at your place, but there's one obvious issue that means I don't think the first meeting should be there. In past years there's been at least one minor take part and I can't see parents being as willing to have them attend in a private location.
Axsis: the same issue applies regarding going to a pub.
Edit (29 Oct):To make it a little easier for people to find each other... this map shows the Arts Centre (North is to the bottom right of that image).
If the weather is fine I'll be on the lawn of the North Quadrangle, probably wearing last years t-shirt.. I also have glasses and long hair (for a male at least). It isn't purple this year though.
If the weather is not fine we'll hopefully be meeting in the little room that has been mentioned by a few others. It's in the Clock Tower, on the left as you come in from the Worcester Boulevard.

ML duties again...
I may need to be more disciplined about writing every day this year. 10,000 word days aren't a good idea.

Whatever, wherever... :) I have a nasty feeling it's not going affect my writing... Oh! Kick-off par-tey? Well BBQ maybe... if the weather is good... I'm just within the city limits North-East corner, so I offer my garden and BBQ for a social gathering to start the event off with a sizzle.

Eeek, 31st is not the best for me... I help out at the local Farmers' Market and there's a big Halloween celebration on that day. I could make it if it was in the afternoon though, possibly...?

I'm pretty much not starting until exams are over this year so I probably won't show up until like the second meeting (finish on the 3rd I think). On the plus side only 2 exams this year because COSC honours do theirs early for some silly reason (apparently honours means post-grad??).

I'm up for sunday, and 2pm sounds great, if it is raining there's a sweet little room that's owned by Le cafe just by the quad there (it's a door off the archway that leads to the quad. Le cafe tend to forget that it exists, and if they remember I'm sure someone will be willing to buy a drink or something. It's a nice alternative to someones home while still feeling as cozy as if it were someones home. I believe there were a few write-ins there last year or the year before... It's a lovely little room anyway.

Arts center @ 2pm on Sunday works for me. There is that little room off the Visitor centre walkthrough that is good for gatherings and le cafe will deliver coffee! It's often empty when le cafe is packed.

Praise Jebus! My exams don't start until Tuesday so attending shall be easy enough.
And BBQ's are always fun. Except when it rains and the rain puts out the BBQ... :(

Sunday works for me :D And Lol I'm glad you mentioned the whole minor = no pub thing because I happen to be one of those dreadful minors :P Ah could someone give EXTREMELY detailed descriptions of how to get to that room? I am incredibly directionally challenged and will somehow manage to lose myself amongst the reasonable largeness of the arts centre. Thanks!

Oooh I love the Arts Centre -- especially that Northern Quadrangle ;D
My exams fall at the end of November so I'm going to have fun trying to finish this year ><
I'm pretty sure I can do Sunday 2pm, though I'm really nervous about meeting other NaNoers!

Ok map is helpful... nontheless if it is bad weather (and I manage to wake up) I shall probably not be able to find the room. So if someone could come check the north quad bit every so often it would be helpful :D See you there! Off to start writing my extremely unplanned spur of the moment novel!

So far I have seen two people say they might have trouble finding the room so I believe I shall offer guidance. Begin your search at the Tram stop closest to the museum, the one outside Le Cafe. As you face Le Cafe you will see an entrance to the right of it. Enter this area and the room opposite the small museum that is about Sir Earnest Rutherford. I believe this is the room our illustrious leaders have referred to?

Is this just a meeting or a write in as well. Basically will I look out of place if I bring my laptop to work on while there?

Based on prior years you'll be more likely to look out of place if you don't have something to write on/with. Bring what you want.

Eeek, so far I have zero ride to get to the Arts Centre... Not good. Not good. *stress* So I may be a tad late!
I don't know how many people will read this before 2 o'clock, but I am almost 100% sure that I am going to get lost and/or not be able to find you all, so PLEASE look out for a bewildered-looking girl wearing purple and shout at her or wave or anything... :)
Also, I'm really hoping you lot can inspire me a little because my word count so far is, um, twelve... and I have no plot. hehe
See you soon!
