Hello all!

I'm super excited this year for NaNo to start. This is my first year registering in Louisiana so I'm excited to see how we organize down here.

So I'm wondering whether there will be any write-ins? I live in Shreveport a good place I think would be Cupcake Gallery on Youree in Shreveport or Books-A-Million in Bossier City.

Let me know if there are any write-ins or any gatherings before the BIG EVENT!

I know that, in the past, NaNo people have met at the Barnes and Noble on Youree. Personally, I'd meed wherever we had good coffee.

That's a good suggestion since B&H now has free internet.

I haven't tried the Cupcake Gallery's coffee (they are orginially a coffee house) but the smoothies are great.

Is anyone interested in organizing a couple of write-ins or a meet-up before the blessed event?

I would be interested in write-ins. Maybe a good place to write would be the Broadmoor Library as well? There are tables set up in the back that would accommodate about 20 or more ppl where we could set up the laptops and write away. Only downside is no coffee inside the library (unless we can get the BIG meeting room out front.). I can look into getting those for Sunday if there is an interest (no guarantee we can get it this late in the game tho). But the tables in the back are available and I can probably get those reserved for Nano participants. (again tho.. no coffee, beverages there).

Let me know and maybe we can plan on Sundays? The branch is open 1-5 every Sunday and that would give us 4 hours to write.

Good luck everyone... I can't believe there's no region allocated to Shreveport. HELLO... didn't Trueblood put us pretty firmly on the radar? LOL!

-Leslie (writing a sci-fi rom... what's everyone else writing for Nano?)

Depends on what happens with the other write-ins and what the deal is with BR this year. Usually there is a couple hour write-in at Barnes & Noble on Saturday. Well, there would be a guest speaker for an hour or so to inspire us and then an hour to write. Two hours to write if there is no speaker. And then Sunday we'd be at home to do the word war challenge. I'd say if BR is not up to a Sunday word war we do it among ourselves because that challenge gave a lot of us the kick in the pants we needed to get our word count where it needed to be for the week.

BR is...? I'm assuming it's not Baton Rouge considering that's a 5 hr drive and that's not really feasible for those of us in the NW part of the state.

Yes, BR is Baton Rouge. No, we wouldn't drive there. :) We had our Saturday write-ins here locally. (Barnes & Noble on Youree) And Sunday we had an online word war challenge with Baton Rouge. Starting at the top of the hour we'd write as fast as we possibly could for one hour. That's why we'd be at home so we could come up and post our word count the minute the hour was up. The liasons would add up all the word counts and divide them by the number of participants. Whoever had the lowest total had to make a donation to this site in the name of the other group. It was a lot of fun and guess BR is tired of getting their butts whipped. LOL!

OIC... well that sounds like it could be fun.

Saturdays I hope after 5 since I work. Anyone you know that might know if these are going to be a done deal? I'd love to know so I can start planning ahead. :)

Thanks, for the info, Beth!

I, too, would be interested in doing some write ins in the Shreveport area. Barnes and Nobles or BAM would be cool with me, but I would warn away from the Shreve Mem Library, simply because they do not offer wireless access at their branches. Personally, I like the option to google or dictionary.com something while typing away. And I'm addicted to Pandora as well. hee.

Shreveport/Bossier here!

I'd be really interested in a write-in, but I have a really weird work schedule. I work Tuesday - Saturday every week, off on Sundays and Mondays. So, I'm free all day on Sundays, but I have a weekly appointment with my trainer at the gym on Mondays at 10:30 (you'd think it would be doing some good!). So I wouldn't be able to do a write-in on Mondays until after, and I kind of suspect most people wouldn't be able to do Monday anyway.

Tues - Sat, I work 7 am until 3 - 3:30ish, and I'm supposed to do gym after work, so I wouldn't be able to do a write-in until after. And then I'd be sweaty and stinky. D:

Um. So. Yeah. I guess everyone decide on when and where, and I'll make it if I can, and if I can't, I'll have to be satisfied with Word Wars. ;o)

Welcome back Sabrina! Baton Rouge called off the Sunday word wars this year, the chickens! They want to do a "monthly total" contest. I'll support whoever wants to do that but I'm not interested in that. It was the weekly contests that kicked me into high gear to up my word count. For the month the 50,000 is enough of challenge for me.

I live in Shreveport, and this is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. All of this sounds very exciting! I'm hoping that a set goal and a supportive community of nice people and information will push me toward success!

Hey guys! Welcome back to those returning! Sorry I didn't make it last year, but this year, I'm ready to hunker down and start writing -- esp since I can get some of it done at work now.

I can't wait to see if we're having a write in at the Cupcake Gallery or at B&N -- both would work for me and anytime after 5:30 on weekdays (except Thursday, cause I teach knitting at LSU) and on weekends.

Keep writing everyone!

I'm willing to sometimes come to Shreveport for a write-in. Maybe once or twice during the month but I'll have to know in advance when and where.

Oooh, I read that post, but somehow didn't come away with the message that they'd called off weekly word wars. D: Those Word Wars were a large part of the reason I was able to win last year (which was also my first). This disappoints me greatly for this reason and not at all because of the rush of beating them three out of four weeks. Not at all. >.>

Oh well!

I'm in! I tried to participate last year, but never really got off the ground. I'm really excited about this year, though. I've got some good ideas.

Hey there! Thanks for joining.

So what would be a good time for everyone to meet. Do we want to do a meet up before the big day? Or do we want to jump right in it.

From the looks of things Saturday and Sundays kinda look doable after a certain time.

I'm thinking we can alternate between Cupcake, BN, and BAM.

I could do Saturdays after 3:30, but I'd need some time to get anywhere... I'm good for B&N or BAM, but I don't know where the other place is.

Sundays I could go at any time. :D

Hello, everyone. Just popping in to the thread to say hi and I see that it is exactly the thread I was looking for. We did write-ins at BN every week last year, which I set up. I originally planned to drop them this year, because I didn't think there was much interest. Then I started getting emails asking if they were happening again. Now that I know other people (besides me) enjoyed them, I will be setting up reserved writer's tables Saturday mornings in November at 10AM at the Barnes and Noble on Youree. (Along with extension cords, power strips, and a word bowl to jump start you in case of mental breakdown! I think I used the bowl most last year.) I hope to see some of you there.

YAY!!! I've been waiting for you to show up!!! I was sure hoping you were going to do what you did last year. I loved it! We have a lot of newbies this year although some's work hours are not going to allow them to come out on Saturday mornings. I hope the ones that can will take advantage of this great opportunity for moral boosting and putting faces with names. Maybe we can do our own word wars on Saturdays since Baton Rouge doesn't want to do the word wars this year and they really helped me boost my word count last year. Did I say I'm glad to see you??? LOL! :D

Barnes & Noble will have write-ins on Saturdays at 10am. The first one is scheduled for Nov. 7. You can go to the B&N website, find the Shreveport store, and view the calendar.

I'll be at them when I'm in town.

I am sooo glad to see a Shreveport/Bossier section! This is my first year here and I started doing notes on my story idea about a month ago and them work and life pretty much stopped that.

Anyway, I think a write in is a really neat idea. Unfortunately, no laptop this year (I'm asking Santa for one!) so my writing will be done at home and maybe some during my lunch break.

I would like to keep up with what everyone in the area is doing. Is this the only section for S/BC people or is there another general forum?

Oh, yay! There is a Shreveport/Bossier contingent! :D

This is my first year attempting NaNoWriMo and I don't really know how any of this works other than you write, you upload, and the words are counted. However, I've been morally supporting several of my friends for the last several years as they take up the challenge. :)

So, I gather a write in is where a bunch of folks get together in one location and write? :)

The group setting does add something to the writing. I don't know if it is the pre-writing chat or looking up and seeing other people typing away, but the only time I managed to get anything done last year was during the write-ins. I was terrible about awarding myself the time to write aside from that. I'm so excited about the return of the Write-Ins, I couldn't resist ordering a t-shirt. Does anyone have an in at some of the other suggested places? I have to work through half the Write-Ins at BN this year, so I am all for some evening Write-Ins at the Cupcake Gallery or something.

Hello, This would be my first year in NaNoWriMo, though I almost Participated in '05 in Florida.

I'm terrible at finishing Stories and thought this would be a good way to sort of complete one for the first time ever :) I'm almost always available so write-ins would be a wonderful welcome, plus I'm sure i wouldn't mind friends to help keep me on track :)

I'm planning on doing something along the lines of a tale behind the 'stars' of old lore, think Medusa and little Red Riding hood, or the Lady of the Lake... I've done short prose but never full on stories.

I don't live in Shreveport anymore but I was born and raised there. I'm currently (for at least the month of Nov) working on a drilling rig about 38 miles south of Bossier.. Unless the write-ins are after 7pm or I get luck with a day off (whatever that is) I probably won't make any but it's good to know that there are other crazy people close by.
