Let's see what kind of writers we all are. I'm writing in the fantasy genre this year, about a cross between Harry Potter and Harry Dresden. What are you working on? Romance, literary, SF?

This year I'm leaning towards a fantasy romance with heavy manga/Japanese influence. Demon hero, tragic high school heronine, family strife, etc etc.

Science-fantasy I guess is what you'd call it. Post apocalyptic swordsman adventure a la the Horseclans among others. Basically swords and sorcery in a post apocalyptic world.

Going for Science Fiction here. Ive always been reading space operas, especially as of late, so im emulating that style quite a bit as a start for the first time to really write. Im not sure how much actual science ill be fitting/incorporating into what im writing, but it should be quite a bit, this'll be interesting.

I'm thinking Fantasy as well. Though I'm just now starting to brainstorm, so we'll see where it goes. :)

I originally wanted to do Fantasy and still might. It just seems to easy to write having played tons of RPG-Style video games over the years and having seen it all. But it seems like that would be an easy way out for me.

I'm going with Historical Fiction. I'm thinking either 1917-1931 in either New York or Chicago (prohibition era basically) or 1870s Kyoto, Japan (during the turmoil of the changing of the way of life and everything else in Japan). The only problem with the second option is I have nothing to write about other than MAYBE a modern fantasy-style story which could be fun. But I think it'll be even more fun to research the 20s and prohibition, and the changing of the ways of life in the US to write a tragic love story.

I'm planning to write fantasy/science fiction. It will be a fantasy setting with inclusion of parallel worlds.

I have three things in mind and haven't decided which one I want to do just yet. I need to fill out some more for the outlines for them. #1 is a Fantasy, sort of a coming-of-age story. #2 is a Paranormal mystery (not quite Dresden style and not quite Anita Blake style). #3 is fantasy/sci fi, set on another world but it does have some fantasy elements, and there is an intersellar war to liven things up. I have a lot of characters that are clamoring for my attention. :-)

Man, we're heavy on the fantasy - I wonder if it's because we're near an engineering school?

Haha, well, I'll have to throw mine into the ring as well. I, too, am planning on a fantasy/possibly children's literature. It's basically set in a backwards English country village with a parallel faerie realm and population. There won't be sword and sorcery, really, but there will be magic in the fey sense.

That's as good a guess as any, Robbie. We creative types must unite in the face of so many engineering automatons! :P

I was actually planning on fantasy slash parallel historical fiction. Basically a different America with a different route of history... I've had this idea going on for a while now and hopefully, I can carry it forth. I'm just worried if this has been done already.

And now for something completely different....

Military comedy/satire. Looks like I'm swimming upstream here.

I have no clue... I was hoping for something to hit me. I had an idea for a zombie story that takes place locally but I still don't know. Soon as I figure it out will let you know!

I'm continuing my time travle series witha new list of characters.
Suggestions for the newbies.
An outline. It doesn't have to be elaborate.
Some writers pull in a circle with the title, then lines stretched out for characters, plot, etc.
One arthur I know writes a letter to the main character, putting a feel for the character's background,
character flaws, the plot AKA a conflict in their life, etc.
Here's to writing!
