Let's Get Ready to Rumble, Ocala! | National Novel Writing Month

Hello Everyone!
I'm Susan, one of your MLs for the Ocala/Marion County Region.

Can you believe it's October already? Time to plug in those imaginations, dig out your laptop, grab a notebook and pencil, and stock up on Red Bull, strong coffee, or whatever get’s you through the night. November 1st is right around the corner!
This is my fifth year doing NaNo and my fourth year as ML. I’ve written for publication for over 20 years and I’ve worked with quite a long list of talented writers and editors in that time. I think you can always learn something from everyone, no matter how different their approach to a situation. Having exposure to different writing techniques gives you more than one tool in which to craft your novel and that is what NaNoWriMo is about. It brings together a great array of people with very different perspectives to the novel writing experience. Take advantage of the riches offered within the “walls” of NaNoWriMo and you will indeed come away better for the experience.

It was only when I entered NaNoWriMo five years ago and had the crazy pressure of finishing a novel in 30 days did I succeed in a life-long goal. I was able to finally finish my first novel, and I’m not alone. NaNoWriMo has pushed, or dragged, many authors to success. Since then, I’ve been able to finish three novels, but only one that I consider good enough for mainstream publication and it is in the editing process. I have one novel I might publish through a vanity publisher, but the other will never see the light of day if my shredder holds out! Outside of NaNo, I’m involved in a number of other endeavors and groups, but I always look forward to NaNo in November.

This year, you are fortunate enough to have Jesse (Mandarino Techie) as your primary ML. I am taking more of a backseat role because Jesse is going off to college next year. I am not sure how much time she will have for NaNo next year. This is her second year as ML. I am sure you will all love her!
