This meetup happened at the Panera Bread in Hadley Mass, one nght a week starting at around five and going until about nine or so. I got most o fmy writing done then. There is no ML or any other such nonsense, just writing. I plan on going on Thursday nights at six p.m. Love to see folks there. And yeah, the free refills on coffee helps! So does the free wifi.
Meet-Up In Greenfield at Cafe Koko, Saturday the 3rd, 10-3

Thought I'd host this trial mega meet-up and see who comes. Cafe Koko is at
204 Main St. Greenfield, Massachusetts. They have wireless. Depending on how it goes, I'll host more. Reply to this group if you are coming, and what time you might be there. The more people reply the more momentum we will build. Or just show up. I'll be the guy with the gigantic Dell laptop.

Wahoo!
Come on out of the woodwork!

I know you're all out there. I know you've been waiting impatiently for this very day, the day that NaNo planning season is officially underway.

It appears that there isn't a section of the site yet dedicated to Municipal Liasions. Does anyone know if we have any yet? I was considering stepping up to volunteer this year, especially if no one else from my area (Easthampton) steps up. But I haven't decided yet.

Last year, my post-modern Literary Fiction creation, One Million Marshmallows, succeeded at reaching 50,000 words, but it's certainly not "good". I haven't touched it since then, and I doubt that it'll ever go any further than the dusty corners of my hard-drive. This year, I'm taking a step in an entirely new direction, and casting my lot with a crew I've shunned in the past: the Chick Lit-erati. I've never dreamed of myself writing a Chick Lit novel, but I can't really pretend this novel is anything but. Romance, betrayal, divorce, cheating, bitchy women, strong coffee.... sounds like Chick Lit to me. The exact literary opposite of the fantasy/sci-fi/literary fiction I've always dreamed of writing. If it gets too scary, I might give up and go hang out with the "Other Genres" group just to spare myself the humiliation, but for now I'm going to be brave and try something new.

So is everyone getting geared up for another year of frantic procrastination? How are you preparing for the month of November? Have you decided on a topic/genre? And when are we going to have our first get-togethers? What do you think about maybe having a pre-write-in sometime to do some brainstorming and outlining?
Haymarket

I realize that there is a Panera write-in tonight, and I definitely don't want to drag anyone away from that.

Just wanted to let you all know that I play to be at Haymarket tonight starting around 5:30 or 6 to get some writing done before the other knitters in my group show up. If you're in the area, aren't planning on going to Hadley, and would like to join me for a bit, I'd love the company (and the wordwars! I haven't actually done any yet this year....)

I hope everyone's writing is going better than mine is! :/
Meetup Sometime Other Than Thursday (Echinoderm to be named later)

So...Monday night? Is Sunday afternoon/evening sacrosanct? Any other suggestions that are not Wednesday or Thursday nights?

As for where, I'm good for anything in about a 25-minute radius, which from S. Deerfield includes, notably, Amherst, Hadley, Northampton, Greenfield, Turners Falls. I'm willing to drive a little farther to somewhere my dog can come along and sit on my feet while I write, though I doubt that place exists.

Key features:
-plugs available
-loiter-friendly
-decently late hours (open until at least 10)
-cheap caffeine
-wireless internet a plus (or is it?)
----------

Writing Totems

What objects do you plan to keep with you when you work on your NaNovel this year?

I have a maroon beret that I wear when I write (it makes me feel sophisticated and artsy), and a small picture frame "window" that I keep with me to remind me that I only need to look at very small segments of my novel's world at once - an idea I believe I borrowed from Anne Lamott. I also have a "studio mug" at home - a tea mug that I purchased to use only when I'm working on writing or crafting.

Now I just need to *find* my writing trinkets - I moved in September and still have 8 or so boxes that haven't been completely unpacked...

So I lied about holing up in my apartment all day; I'm writing in the Shelburne Falls right now. I will probably be here until about noon, if anyone is interested in joining me for a few hours. And I'll probably come back tomorrow, because I'm finding it really easy to concentrate here, so long as I've got some headphones and iTunes.
Mocha Maya's in Shelburne Falls?

Best time/place for weekly meetups

I figured it might be a good idea to find out where and when people would be interested in meeting for weekly write-ins.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings (and possibly a few weekends) are best for me, and I'm willing to travel as far north as Hadley and as far south as Holyoke (the Barnes & Noble in Holyoke would be perfect if they didn't charge so outrageously for their wireless). I would be fine with the Panera in Hadley, since I work in Amherst, but Thursday nights are the only night that I have plans every week, and I'm not going to cancel them for NaNo. I'm going to need my weekly knitting circle to keep me sane. :)

Thoughts? Other ideas for venues, days, times?
