Welcome to NaNoWriMo! Not much to know about it, really - you've signed on to attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November. It's all unofficial, in spite of talk you might see of flying guilt monkeys, and the organization exists mainly to encourage people to finally unleash that novel they know they're carrying around inside them. We will hopefully have some get-togethers of people in the region doing the same thing you are, and the forums exist for major procrastination and/or encouragement.
Have fun!

Welcome to the insanity we call NaNoWriMo. Everything is unofficial (there are no prizes, no obligation to plan to submit your novel for publication, etc.) but it is a heck of a lot of fun writing 50,000 words in only 30 days along with all the other crazies throughout the rest of the world.
Usually, regions try to host write-ins where folks can gather and work on their novels together (be productive, commiserate, or just plain procrastinate-- the more the merrier!). We don't have an official ML (municipal liaison, a.k.a. head yell leader) for B/CS, but MDarcy and myself are sort of trying to take the reins. I happen to know the ML from Austin personally, so hopefully, we'll be able to have some get-togethers throughout the month of November.
Make sure you set your region region to Bryan-College Station so that your words contribute to our regional wordcount board :)

Welcome!
Yes, the funny thing about NaNo is that even though it's unofficial, everyone works so hard for those 50,000 words. *grins* It's just a great feeling to finally get that novel onto paper though, even if the 50,000 words doesn't finish it. :)
