I'm looking forward to hearing from our ML about pre-Nano get-togethers and official write-ins, but in the meantime let's post our ideas for unofficial, mini write-in sites. Getting together with other wrimos is encouraging and fun! Post your neighborhood and then discuss ideas.
My daughter and I (maybe two daughters) can meet evenings and weekends (except Sunday morning). I prefer to not have to drive into downtown Bellingham (what a wimp I am--I used to live in Tacoma, Seattle, San Jose--but Bellingham is too big for me now. LOL!) but I will do it if that's the only way to meet with others.
My ideal spot is:
--not too busy
--not too noisy
--equipped with outlets for laptops that don't hold a good charge (like mine)
--equipped with WiFi (because this year I'm writing on Google Docs)
The following are places that appeal to me. I don't know if any of them have WiFi--it was never an issue for me before. LOL
Ferndale/North Bellingham: My daughter and I held our own mini write-ins every Saturday morning last year at Greene's Corner (Northwest Avenue and Smith Road). We aren't sure if we'll do the same thing this year--we want to go where other wrimos will come, too.
Ferndale: Woods Coffee is a very pleasant place to work, especially if you can snag a seat by the fireplace in the loft. :D
Birch Bay/Lynden Road: There is a rustic-looking coffee shop just east of I-5. I've never been there to see what it's like, but it looks like a fun, atmospheric place from the outside.

Well, any other WWU/Fairhaven students lurking here? We could figure out a place to meet on campus, like the Underground Coffee House or the Atrium.
Evenings are best for me too, as well as Friday afternoons.

I'm at WWU as well, and the Coffee House would likely work. It might be worthwhile making the trek into the arboretum for the sake of a watchtower write-in, I'm not hindered by lack of electricity though, being a typewriter fiend, so I might be a touch biased.

I'm at WWU too. I can go anywhere that provides electricity for my laptop, though I don't need internet.

I'm in Ferndale, so Woods is probably a good enough spot. I'm more likely to make it to a Ferndale event, but if there's something elsewhere and I can make it (ie. I'm not watching my kids, which I do most of the time atm) I'll do so.

I've put a preliminary few meetings on the calendar, though they are showing up at weird and wacky times where it's embedded into the forum, so you have to click on the calendar itself to see them:
http://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=v7fe51233vl80cb0s538n7iub4%40g...
So far I've only planned things in the downtown Bellingham area because I don't know of venues outside of Bellingham -- I don't tend to go out of the city limits very often.
Any other ideas are welcome, and if you have organized your own write-ins or meetings, I will put those on the calendar as well. (Oh yeah, and probably show up, unless they're during the day, during the week, because I'll be at work.)
The "Kick off Party" is a bit early this year as I'll be out of town, and the NaNo rules stipulate that it should happen before Nov. starts. However, if it's too soon and the rest of the region would rather have it on Nov. 2 or 3, I don't think that's too late, and we can always push it back.
Additionally, I have chosen venues that I know will be open and will have either WiFi or power outlets available, but I welcome all suggestions.
Nice to see you all again! :)

It might be worth sending out an email with a heads up that the forum is active and about the events and calendar. I'm thinking there might be people signed up who don't check the forums much.
Edit: I'll see about making Fri at the Black Drop. Will you be wearing a big NNWM sign around your neck? ;)

I'm a WWU student too... I might be game for a watchtower write-in, as long as my laptop batteries don't die on me. But anywhere on campus is good - if I see others making plans for write-ins, I'll probably show up and lurk in a corner. :)

Couldn't make it on Friday sorry, I forgot the kids had a halloween thing at school. I'll make it to something, but I have no idea when :P
As for Ferndale, whether it's a weekend or not doesn't bother me, it's just fitting around my wife's work schedule, my kids, and my clients. So maybe we can do something during a weekday evening or something?

I'm in Sudden Valley but am flexible. Would like to meet other wrimos as well. I would like meet in a place that's pleasant, not too noisy, and in conducive to writing. However, I do prefer daytime meetings. I'm generally not feeling very creative in the evenings, so it's not the best time for me to be scribbling away (or typing away) on a novel.

Possibly on a weekday evening. although I may be in town on more weekends during November, simply because it saves time for writing.

I met some nice people at the Village Books workshop, and we threw together a write-in date: Monday, November 2 at 6:00PM at the Public Market. The Public Market is in Bellingham on the corner of Cornwall and York, and Stuart's Coffee is in there with lots of comfy chairs, couches, tables, and outlets. Anyone interested should come write with us!

Hi Simirimia,
Cool! I'll add your write-in to the official calendar.
I've also added two more weekly times for write-ins, so now we have:
Tuesday evenings, 6pm-8pm at The Woods in Ferndale
Thursday evenings 6pm-8pm at The Woods in Downtown Bellingham
Saturday afternoons 3pm-5pm at the Viking Union at WWU.
(Addresses are posted on the Google Calendar)
I think this gives a decent spread of locations. I am unable to attend write-ins during the morning or day during the week, so if anybody wants to organize meetings at those times, just let me know.
I'm also about to send out a reminder that the Official Kick-Off Party is at Rudy's Pizza on State St. in Downtown Bellingham.
Hope to see some of you there!

Well I've missed all the meetings so far. Not a great start!
So who's going to the kick off party at Rudy's Pizza? I'd like to say I'm coming, but at this point not sure yet. But schedule is just not geared to evening events, for a number of reasons.
Sounds like it may be fun, though.

Unfortunately I can't make Rudy's or the current schedule for the Ferndale write-ins. My wife is working nights on Sun/Mon/Tues and every other Sat. I'll try to jump in where I can, or figure out another Ferndale time :)

Feel free to drop me a nanomail... or something... yeah. (lol)

There should be at least five of us at the official write-in on Thursday at 6pm. The official meeting is at The Woods on Railroad in downtown Bellingham at 6.
At least, that's where I'll be, and I'll have stickers with me.

I've heard nasty rumors about bad weather tomorrow evening. Does anyone know any more than that there will be 40 mph winds and rain?
