Alright, our board is look mighty lonely right now. I think anyone from the Palm Beaches should take a moment and introduce themselves.

My name's Amanda. I used to work in the horse business in Wellington, but a bad injury last year means I can't really ride anymore (at least not at the same level). So now I'm trying to go back to school and I'm working part time in a retail position. At least it leaves me with plenty of time for NaNo. :) I have pretty eclectic tastes with what I like to read and write. This year I'm doing a space opera, using an idea I've had in the back of my mind for years now, but never really executed.

Floor's open, fellow novelists!

I'm Alexis. This is my first time trying NaNo. I'm a freelance editor and SAHM, and I'm going to work on a mystery.

Hi
I'm Karen, also known as the Pirate Queen. I am from Lake Worth, FL. This is my second year. I didn't finish last year because I was taking a Tax Course all month. This November I am taking another one but it won't be as time consuming as last years. This years attempt will be an Arthurian novel set in and around my favorite place, Camelot. It's been in my head for most of my life and I am finally going to put in down on paper. I feel excited to finally bring my characters to life on the printed page.

Hey everyone, glad to see people are here! The region stats say 37 of us have logged in this year, but since the author search isn't working there's no way to know who we are... so great idea for this thread, Amanda!

I live in Boynton, work in Boca, and the only time I get to write is late at night, so I doubt I'll make it to any write-ins. I write either fantasy or SF, and having met my goal of 100K+ words for each of the last three NaNos, I'll be trying for that again this year. This year's effort will be a steampunk-ish alternate history fantasy. Or something like that. My outline is done, and I just added a brief synopsis to my novel info section.

Hope everyone's ready for a fun and productive month!

Chris

HI Chris
I'm like you. I live in Lake Worth and work in Delray during the day. I do most of my writing at night so I won't make it to any writing sites. But I am glad we can communicate this way at least.

Hi there!

I'm Crystilia, Crys (sounds like "Chris") for short.

I'm new this year and I'm really excited for November. It seems to be creeping closer sooo slowly. Could just be my birthday that's slowing it down, but I'm honestly more excited for NaNo.

I live in West Palm and I'm still in high school at Suncoast (trying to talk my friends into joining NaNo too, and actually having some success). I'd really like to make it to write-ins, but some how I doubt I'll be able to make it this year with my transportation problems.

I'm going for a horror novel this year and I have to admit it's the weirdest thing I've ever thought up. I can't wait to get it on paper, the outline has just been flowing out for days!

Hallo! Calling in from the West Palm Beach area. This is my fourth year of doing Nano. I won in 2006, cheated in 2007 (added in a thousand words of pre-written prose and validated on Hawaiian time :P), won in 2008. This year I'm a Rebel, and I'm tacking a new 50k onto my 2008 novel. It's an alternate history set in a post-WWII world where the Third Reich won. I have Polish underground spy networks! :D

Hoping to make it to a write-in this year, but it has to be within biking distance or else I won't make it. *sad*

Hi Crystilia
What a pretty name! When is your Birthday? Mine is November 30, so hopefully if all goes well my novel will be completed on my Birthday. Something magical about that.

Welcome to NaNo. I think you'll find the whole thing a crazy-fun-whirlwind of an experience. If you want any tips or tricks for staying on task, just ask. I find that if I least make a schedule and set a quota, everything goes much easier.

I'm trying this again. I read the story on the front page from the solider who wrote her nano while in Irag. That was an inspirational story! I live in northern Palm Beach County - Lake Park. Good luck everyone.

Pathfinder here, back in action and ready to rock. I started this in 2006, although I skipped last year due to oh-dear-sweet-god-I-can't-breathe-so-much-stress-ah-not-enough-time. For '09 I'm recycling 2006's mess, erasing what little I had from there and starting anew. I think I've got a set strategy to actually expand this plot, now. Excited? JA.

My birthday is Nov. 4, so I'll just be kicking my novel off when my birthday rolls around. And magical indeed, I wish you great luck on your novel. I'm sure it'll be amazing, and it's the perfect birthday present for yourself! I'm hoping to treat myself to the same, just a bit later than my actual birth date.

Hello! Glenn here! I'm ready to get started once again! :) I'm really excited about this. I chimed in for the first time on this site last year when I was living in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. I moved down here in December of '08 looking for a fresh start in life! Well, you know how the saying goes, be careful what you ask for! LOL Well I got a good dose of that and then some! :) I really enjoyed the group in the North Alabama region. Everyone there was very supportive and the group leader was really awesome. I'm looking for more of the same here or even better! At some point in our lives...we have to take our talent seriously, or we end up missing out on something very special in life! Who knows where we can go with this now or in the future. Take hold of the talent you have, embrace what God has blessed you with, and you will find much more happiness in life than what might have had otherwise! I don't have a laptop this year...the laptop I had last year crashed hard on me...I lost all of what I was writing about! I was devastated to say the least. I had almost 7k words written! :( The only thing I have to work with this year is an outdated desk top pc that I won't be able to take to any write-ins with me. So, because of this, I may have to skip most of the write-ins unless I can miraculously come up with a lap top some how, or just hand write and type it in on my computer at home later which is an option I really don't want to have to consider! :( Anyone have any suggestions for me? I'd appreciate it. God Bless one and all and best of luck this year on reaching the goal of 50K words! I'm located in West Palm Beach in the Palm Springs area. Hope to hear from you all soon! :)

Hellooo! I'm Dayan and I've lived in WPB for nearly 12 years now. Before that I was in my native country (Cuba). This is my first (and hopefully successful) year. I thought I would work on an actual book idea that I had been planning for a long while but never quite writing, but I'm beginning to change my mind in the last few days. A few pages of crazy-fun prose I wrote a couple of years ago reminded me how much potential that story had, if I had only continued it. Dunno if it'll be 50k, but I feel like I should rework it into a proper beginning and see where it leads.

I'd love to go to get togethers or write ins, and now that I'm happily unemployed (just in time), I'm quite willing (and a lil bit desperate) to pursue this dream.

Hi everyone,

My name is Kimberly. This is my first Nanowrimo and I'm very nervous about it. I've had stories in my head my whole life but my perfectionism has prevented me from getting any kind of first draft down on paper. Can a little voice kick you? Cause I think mine did so I had to sign up. *happy groan* Ha!

I taught elementary in PBC public schools for 5 years and now work at the Belle Glade Library. I live and work in Belle Glade which is on the SE side of Lake Okeechobee. Getting to write-ins may be tricky depending on when they're scheduled because of the distance. I would like to try it though. I also travel every month. Plus I am now officially a real live librarian. I just graduated in August. Yay!

Gosh, do you know how much time it took me to write that paragraph? I'm in big trouble! *help!*

Karen alias Pirate Queen here
My laptop is painfully slow so I usually carry my flash drive with me and work during lunchtime at work. I like the writing in long hand first and then typing idea and have toyed with that idea of doing it too since I can write in long hand faster than I can type. Plus when I type the urge to edit it stronger. I may try both and see which works best. Welcome everyone. Glad to see so many more people in the Palm Beach/Lake Worth area. I knew no one last year, so maybe this year knowing you are all out there in the same boat will spur me forward. Hope so.

Yes, I am going to try to stick to my schedule this year. The only problem is that things always tend to get in the way. I guess I am seriously going to have to turn off the TV during November. Won't be easy.

TV is your enemy. I learned that in gradschool when monster papers were due almost every week. The best way to do it is to find a way to download your shows off the internet, and then watch them after the task is completed, as a reward. Worked for me (until it worked no more :P)!

My current worry is that I will also be looking for jobs far and wide throughout PBC, and that's time and energy consuming. Not to mention that I can't afford to turn down a job that may be too demanding... :D

Hey! I'm Angela from Jupiter. I'm a college freshmen at Palm Beach Community College and this is my fourth year tackling the beast of National Novel Writing Month.

This is my first year NaNoing with both a laptop and a car and would love to go to some write ins (or organize some if need be :) )

This year I'm working on a dark self discovery novel involving super heros, inspired partially by Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog :D

Greetings, fellow PBC people!
My name is Angel and I'm a Family Service Coordinator from West Palm Beach. This is my second year doing Nanowrimo. I somehow managed to throw down 50,000 words last year. I loved the story so much that I decided to use Nanowrimo this year to write its sequel! I thankfully have at least one agent who is intrigued by the 2008 novel and wants to see it once I'm done editing. Just goes to show you that you never know where these Nanowrimo novels will take you :)

And yes, can we please beat Broward County this year? LOL

Hey, Palm Beaches!

My name is Cassie and it looks like I'm the first Boca resident to emerge...

I have a full-time job and will be adding some classes to my schedule in the spring, so this Nano is my last silly hurrah before my spare time disappears. I have NO idea what I will be writing about! My guess is it will be satire.... I will definitely be relying on the forum and maybe some write-ins (anyone??) for inspiration.

We're coming for you, Broward! :)

Hello All!

My name is Lindsey and this is my first year with NaNo. I'm incredibly excited to get this show on the road. It's really cool to see everyone in the area (I'm in Wellington) and hopefully I'll make it to some write-ins. I've got my basic novel info in another post.
I generally write longhand first, especially as a nanny because it's easier to pull out a Moleskine than a laptop. Also because I find that I do write faster than I type, but I add more of the details when I go back and type, so it works out really well for me.

Counting down!

Hi all! Sarah here, the second Boca resident (I recently moved up from Key West). I working in Delray and this is my first year doing NaNo! I'm nervous and excited and probably totally unprepared, but ready for the challenge. Luckily my girlfriend works evenings which will give me a few hours everyday for me-and-my-novel time.

I had three ideas and think I've narrowed it down to one. Started working on an outline...luckily there are a few more days of October :) I'm going to be doing a horror/thriller/mystery piece with some twists and turns, might make you squirm. I'm actually more scared of my book idea than the prospect of writing it, but we'll see how it goes.

Looking forward to making it to a write-in or two. Good luck to all!

Hi, everyone. I'm Liz and another Boca resident. This is my second NaNo. Last year I won by writing my 1,667 words daily no matter what--usually at night after work. I'm going to follow that strategy again this year.

This is my first NaNo and I've been looking forward to it all year. I haven't quite decided what I'll be writing about yet, though I have an inkling that I'll be picking at for the next 10 or so days :)

Taken from my author info

For near thirty years, I was a bum but not your ragged, street derelict sort of bum. Rather, I was a bum who passed time in exotic locales hanging out with titled European nobles and various gazillionaires. Crossing oceans, often with someone else paying for the tickets when it wasn't on a private jet. Dining in palatial villas or exclusive restaurants, with tablemates from several differant nations.

Then there were the parties that allowed me to chat with the retired Israeli general and his tales of war. The days when I might have died or been injured, the days when I might have disappeared. Days like the one off the coast of the Spanish island of Mallorca when my skull was fractured - that was a fun day.

Overly dramatic, polishing my cred as a writer of fiction already you say, as you read these words. Nope.

I was a sailor, not your take the boat out on the weekend sort of sailor. I was a professional racing sailor who sailed in the premier events wherever they were held. They call horse racing, "The Sport of Kings" but big boat racing has no cash prizes unlike horse racing only silly trophies, although I did met King Juan Carlos once at a regatta . There are however, people who are willing to spend millions to win one of those useless objets d'art - and I was one of those who helped them spend their money.

Now residing in storied Palm Beach because of family obligations, my partner and I hope soon to be back on blue water on our own craft. Not the size of those I once played with but sufficient in size to take us over the horizon

Guess it takes the nano servers a while to post.

Yo, I'm Nikki.

This is my first time jumping into Nano!! I missed it by 4 days last year....so I've been waiting (read: itching) for November. Barely keeping the words from spilling out of my brain.

Not really sure what my novel will be about..I figured I'd wing it the first time..just for experience..but I got some ideas rattling around up there. I usually just sit and let the strongest character push his/her way to the front and demand I tell his/her story. Seems to work pretty well.

Its nice to know there are so many people in this area willing to escape the real world for November.

ok...pens at the ready

I'm Dave. And I'm going to win NaNo this year. =^)

I live in the West Palm area. This will be my 3rd attempt at NaNo. I failed horribly the first year and then came back a few years later with a grand slam to win.

This year I'm going all out and trying to do something new. I work like 50 hours a week and between that and two cats, I don't really feel like I have the time to write that I used to in college and high school. So, my Nano came from a quick bolt of clarity last week.

It's an adventure story involving a guy who crash lands into a bubble city (Atlanta, not Atlantis) under the ocean. It's going to end up being a generic adventure/quest story where the hero just wants to get home. I don't think Nano would be the time to experiment with crazy convoluted plots. Instead, I think it will be fun to go the pulp route. As you can guess, along the way he meets a bad guy who's also from above ground. Bad guy wants to take over the bubble and then the world. Or something.

I'm kind of excited, this is going to be the first story of length that I haven't obsessively plotted out. We'll see where the characters take me. I know the beginning, middle, and end. How everyone gets there though is entirely up to them.
