Hey guys,
We'd like to announce the details for our kick-off party for the St. Louis Metro East folks!
Come join us at our first big write-in event! We'll be writing all day at the Edwardsville Learning Technology Center on 200 Clay St., Edwardsville, IL 62025. The building looks like a row of old condos. You can park in the (small) lot outside or on the street. We'll be in the conference room, which is the basement. The door is on the RIGHT.
This is a potluck event, which means you can bring food to share with others. We will have free sandwiches and chips available for everyone; please bring your own (non-alcoholic) drinks. If you would like to bring a dish, dessert or whatnot for everyone, please feel free! (There are plugins available for crock pots or hot plates if the food needs to stay warm.)
We will be furiously writing from 10 AM to 6 PM, so please feel free to come and go as you please.
If you have any questions, please contact Jenna Stoeber (lostieborden@yahoo.com) or Sean J. Jordan (seanjjordan1@gmail.com). And if you get lost, call Sean at 618-444-2272!
If you can't make it to the Kick-off event, be sure to attend one of our many other fine events, all of which you can find on our Southern Illinois NaNoWriMo calendar!

I am totally making biscotti for this! Best part is, I can walk there from my house, even in the sure-to-be-chilly November weather. Yay!

Well last Sunday I spent dressing people as zombies and filming it... so I guess it depends on who's playing in the football games on whether or not I'll be showing up. Missing two weeks of football is acceptable if it's to a good cause.

authra: I've felt that way most of my life. Looking back at a lot of those times, I was wrong. Even more importantly, I wasn't the only one who felt (and occasionally still feels) that way. Don't let it stop you from enjoying life and trying new things.
On another note, writers are all nuts anyway. Let your inner (non-sociopath) nut out. :D

I agree. authra, show up! We will be glad you came. As flooflam pointed out, you will find that none of the others of us are normal,. so you should fit in perfectly. :)

authura: I agree. We are writers and its in our disposition to be different. With this kind of gathering you are likely to find someone to click with. Go, have a good time, and don't worry about fitting in. No one can embarrass you without your consent.

Authra: I am 66 years old and there are still times I feel that way...but as fooflam said...don't let it stop you...after a few times you won't feel that way... Jan

Authra: I'm not going to be able to make the Edwardsville write-ins because I don't have transportation, but I wanted to put my two-cents in. I'm a bit like you in that I am terribly shy. Shy to the point that sometimes I feel like a shut-in, in fact. But I've always had one thing that's stronger than my shyness, and that's my writing. It is something I'm proud of and, more importantly, makes me feel confident and strong. My writing is my best face, and it makes up for all my other deficiencies. The problem is, though, is that writing is a solitary endeavor. You do it alone in the dark with nothing but your own thoughts for company. So, it would seem that writing, though it makes me feel better about myself, doesn't help. These things change that. I can go to a place with like-minded people who are struggling with the same things I am and who genuinely want to meet. It's more than i could ask for. I can put aside my shyness by writing. So, my simple advice is just that: focus on the writing. See the write-ins as an opportunity to write. Focus on the writing, and your shyness will not go away. But it won't have the power it usually does.
Meet with people by writing. It's what helps me, and, given that your going to be doing it anyway, I think it can help you.

I'm so excited for tomorrow's event! I'm even leaving church early for it! Quick questions though!
What is everyone (if anyone) bringing for food wise? I personally am going to make some brownies and I think I'm actually going to figure out a way to chop up some caramel candy corn and mix those in. Mmmmmm...candy corn. Haha

I don't think I'm going to leave the church early but I am contemplating writing through the service. :-)
I'm hoping to bring some sort of chili-esque crock-pot thing.

Army Ant Publishing will be providing sandwiches, chips and plates/cups/napkins/silverware. A three gallon container of Sean's special Sweet Tea will also be available.
Please feel free to bring anything BEYOND that that you'd like. Candy, dessert items, finger foods, or other goodies are all welcome. You can also bring a case of soda, a gallon of punch, or whatever you like to drink if you want to share! (Please bring your own drinks otherwise... but no alcohol, k?)

I'm bringing dip & chips, as well as a couple of big bottles of Pepsi. Not sure when I'll show up, though. I'm going to a friend's anniversary party tonight and since it doesn't start until all the trick-or-treaters are off the streets, I don't know how late I'll be sleeping in tomorrow.

If you like strong English blend teas, I am your girl! I am trying to get something for hot water and will be bringing a selection of my tea bags along. For those that knew Riley's the PJ Tips will be coming! I will probably have some type of dairy (creamer, milk, or half and half. I will bring the sugar.
If you have a favorite mug, bring it!
Any other suggestions for beverages?

We've got A LOT of candy left over from tonight since we only had two families stop by the house. Since I'm a horrible baker, I think I'll be bringing that. :D
