So, fellow Nanites(I insist on using that term), the time fast approaches for the Pre-NaNo Gathering. Of course before this occurs there are some questions that need to be answered, namely, When, and Where?

If it wasn't cold, I would suggest the yard outside my apartment. But I think that the apartment itself is too small to hold a group in, we don't even have a kitchen table!
My only suggestion would be, someplace that isn't expensive to go to, and that doesn't make you think you need to spend money.
A library would be good. There;s always the Emily Carr branch out by Wal Mart, I'm sure everyone knows where that is?

There was mention in the other thread about booking a room at UVic to use. Has anybody followed up on this?

Not as far as I know. Whenever we decide, I'd love to know :) I actually want to come to meetings this year, last year finances kept me away (I couldn't do meetings every week if they involved spending money...)

In lieu of any other organization efforts, let's set the first meeting as the 31st. As for location, somewhere on UVic - I'll figure something out in the next couple of days, but in the meantime everybody who wants to come should clear their calendar for next Sunday around...how does two o'clock sound?
I'll update Monday or Tuesday with a specific location, and directions for those that need them.

Seems viable.

I don't know that the 31st is going to be viable at all.
Certainly not for me, since I'll be walking in the Zombie Walk at 2pm.

Anybody else? A rough idea of numbers would help me figure how large a space to hijack/reserve/steal/invade.

I'll probably be missing the first couple of meetings, just because of a major crash between work, a birthday party, and some appointments on the first two weekends of November. After that, I really hope I can make it! The meetings have been mounds of hilarity in past years, and I wish I didn't have to miss any of them at all.

I'm taking a trip from November 3-9 so I won't be able to make any meetings on those days, but other than that should be available (unless I have to work).
I'd also like to point out that next Sunday is November 1st, Saturday is the 31st. I have to work on Saturday until 3.

So it is. I'd gotten them mixed up somehow.
With that in mind, is there anybody else for whom Saturday at 2 PM does not work?

Saturdays work for me...My wife won't like it, but that's the only day I can have the car in the afternoons.
She'll just have to make do...after all, she goes to see *her* friends at random times on the weekend, I think I have a right to do the same once a week for ONE MONTH, right? LOL

Okay ladies and gents, I'm going to try and hold a table in the SUB where our partially undefined number of people can converge. It'll be one of the neat-looking ones just in front of what I am reliably informed is (or was) called "Vergito"(?).
Directions:
Use the SUB entrance next to the pub. Look for a set of double doors on the opposite wall with tables arranged in front. Sit at the table with the plushie fox and funny-looking guy with red hair.
That's nice, but where the heck is this SUB thing?
Thanks Will, you're awesome!
Damn right I am.
Since I have no idea what numbers to expect this meeting will be more of a test. If more people show up than there are seats at the table then I have a backup plan, so if you're worried you might cause NANO OVERCROWDING then please don't be and come along anyway. Yes this is a Saturday, yes it's Halloween, but anybody that CAN make it down Saturday is quite welcome.
Saturday will probably end up being the de facto NaNo Meeting Day, and again depending on numbers we might migrate to a larger location for November.
EDIT: That took four tries. I don't know what kind of hellish language the NaNo forums use, but it certainly isn't the HTML I know and love!

Sounds fun! Unless something changes in the next few days, I should be able to make it.
For future meetings, my house is available/usable; plenty of room both indoors and outdoors, wireless internet, lots of outlets, coffeemaker, multiple teapots, AND has lots of available parking. We do, however, have a golden retriever, if fur sets off any allergies/asthma.
Oh, and we're on Ardmore Drive, which is like a hundred meters north of the McTavish/West Saanich intersection.

I'm actually working in the SUB that day (yippee), so I'll double check tomorrow to see if Vertigo is available and we can all go hang out in there cause I'm the one with all the keys ^_^ Not necessarily the power, but the keys nonetheless.

Man, I can't do Halloween. I'm working most of the day, and dancing all night (or at least until midnight, then I'll retreat home to write). But uh, I think I'll be able to make other meetings in the future, as long as they're on weekends.

I should be able to make Saturday at 2. I'm really exited! However, I still have no plot. After my midterm tomorrow, when I can breathe, hopefully I can scramble something together in time for the pre-NaNo meeting! haha

How long do you think you'll be there? I have to work until 3, but can probably make it around 3:30 if it lasts that long...

I won't be able to go :(
Halloween is probably the busiest day of my year, every year :) I'll be out strolling in full Zombie glory, and after that I have a ton of stuff to do at my house, and then going out :)
You'll probably see me during nano, though.

So, the SUB on Saturday at 2:00? Yeah, I can probably make it or I'll try to at least, haha. Hopefully I won't be scrambling to finish making my costume. This is my first Nano and I'd like to come meet everyone. :)

There'll be plenty of parking, and so long as you park in general spots or at meters, it's $2 for the entire day (which sucks, yes, but at least it's not a weekday).
Also, I forgot to check whether Vertigo is booked or not for Saturday, so I'll have a look tomorrow at work ^^

As much as I would love to go to this meeting, due to my schedule at work, saturdays in general will most likely be a no go, as they are one of the busiest days for me at work. Earliest I can get out is around 5-6pm, which Is doubtful people would still be around, and that is my regular weekly schedule. sunday and Monday afternoons, almost everday all day tuesday and friday, wednesdays are a no go, and early thursdays i can typically do.
:P i know nothing will be scheduled around just one person, but I live having the info out there
