Hey everyone! Glad to see you all for another wonderful year.

I was just wondering if there will be a group meeting at the SSU campus in Rohnert Park this year. I know we had a group going that met on Mondays last year, and I wasn't sure if they were still planning on meeting. If anyone has any info, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much and best of luck to you all!

Hi,
I know it's not on campus, but I'll be at the Redwood Cafe in Cotati on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 PM. Come join me!

Hi Catherine,

Would you like to list this as a separate write-in thread so that others can attend?

Also, I'll be making a Google calendar page where this can be listed along with all the other write-ins. Can I list it there?

Yes Debbie,
I would love to have the Redwood Cafe listed in the write in thread. I didn't know how to do it myself!

Thanks!

Hey, Nicki! I'm on campus again this year, so I'm down for attempting write-ins again -- I know I didn't go to the Monday ones last year (had class, same deal this year, too), but we should definitely try something! Maybe with the 25k group that's on campus again?

Yeah for sure! I haven't heard anything about the group again this year so if you have any information that would be great. I was only able to go to a few of the Monday meetings last year so I'm hoping to find a good time for everyone this time. Let me know if you find out more about the 25k group again because the write-ins were quite fun. :]

Can you let me know about the 25k group too. I have a friend who wants to write in the challenge, but is intimidated because he is in his last semester at SSU and needs to finish that up. I was telling him that an adjusted word goal might serve him well, but I think that if he could meet other people doing the same thing as him it might help with encouragment.

Maybe we could both end up going to some of the SSU write ins, getting a chance to hang with more crazy local writers.

I think your idea of an adjusted word count goal is great, rather than not doing NaNoWriMo at all. I was just telling someone at the kickoff Monday night (and I probably shouldn't say this as an ML) that I could never have done the full 50,000 when I was in college. I am amazed at students who can pull this off, and think you should all get some special kind of prize!

Happy Writing...only 2-plus days left!

I haven't heard anything about the school program yet, but I haven't looked at a copy of The Star in a few weeks, but none of my professors (in the English dept. anyway) have said anything. Anyone else heard anything? I'm asking/pestering a couple people to see if they've heard anything right now, too. And got a reply back form one friend, he's got no idea about the 20k group, either.

That aside! Is there a day anyone would like to meet to write/hang out? I know Mondays are out for me, but I'm down to figure something out for almost any other day of the week! And Scott! Tell you friend to just set a goal and go for it! I'm aiming to hit 30k like I did last year -- I'm not really one who can just bang out 5k like it's nothing (and I do have a couple friends who can, which is just freaking scary, something), so I'm just going to aim for meeting my personal best. And I'm definitely using this year as personal therapy, since senior year is beating me up (and I'm none too pleased about it!).

I wish I could get there. I probably won't be able to go to any write-in's. I know that sunday, the first, there will be a National History Day help-thing. My GATE class(or some of the students anyway) will be at the SSU library. I might go to that.

Yesterday there was an announcement on Stafflink about SSUProWriMo (SSU Project Writing Month). The kick off party is set for Monday, November 2nd in Stevenson Hall, Room 2011, at noon.

Anyone who is curious, interested, committed are welcome. The organizers will do an overview, help participants find writing partners, and talk about write-ins.

So, bring your lunch and get ready to join the fun.

Ah okay, Lilian found the information for the SSU group! I haven't heard anything about it yet on campus and was really curious if they were still doing it. As for days to choose, I am pretty open to anything. I'm not sure what time of day you all tend to write, but I'm a bit of a night owl. You may be able to find me in the library or CBC at night. And during the day, I will probably head to the library MoWeFri around 1ish after a class. Anyone is welcome to join! Last year we sat in the tables by the Writing Center on the 1st floor, but I'm up to meet anywhere.

Today was the kick-off for SSUProWriMo. It looks like we have a group of about a dozen or so. We all put our names and email addresses on a list and they're going to set up a email group for us. To get on that list send your name and email addy to holly.sautner@sonoma.edu.

The write-ins are going to be Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. at the tables outside The Writing Center in the library.

The Writing Center is also hosting WritingCenterPalooza on Tuesday, November 10. It's a free-form writing event. Drop in any time on the half hour to play at different "stations" - poetry, prose, writing games. Some snacks will be out around the noon hour. Everyone is welcome.

And on Thursdays at noon the All Write Consortium gathers to talk about writing, play writing games, do writing exercises. Sounds like that is open to all comers as well. They meet at the tables outside The Writing Center too.
