Please share (if you like), what you're writing, what your plans are - is it a snippet of an idea, a fully developed and plotted project? Doing more than one? Are you looking forward to it - dreading it?

I'm writing three novels this year.
I'm writing two novels - Change and Value. Change is a sci fi, future/alt universe story that's also part of my dissertation this year (cause of course, I'm doing a creative writing dissertation :D). I'm going to work on blending all of the different elements I've studied this year, so it's fairly solidly plotted, and outlined. I'll have research to do while I'm writing it, but it should go relatively smoothly.
Value is a bit different - it's a story about the way excuses change things - whether those things are serious, or just what we hide behind. It's about a couple whose life is going to be turned upside down - and its one of those stories I can't *not* write.
And finally...
I'm rewriting Glass Block, the novel that I wrote in 2003, when I started Nanoing - I can't believe that I wrote it seven years ago, but I owe it to several people and places now, so I'm going to dive in and rewrite it start to finish, one last time.
Because I average 124k a year in November, when writing three new novels, I'm thinking that Glass Block might *just* get squeezed in and be ok ;).

How about you guys?

My Creative Writing course leader hates Sci-Fi and Fantasy. We argue about it constantly (the WT190 module is a bit of a battleground at the moment) but I'm trying to be open-minded so I thought I might try some realist fiction this year. No orks or elves or druids or goblins. And it will be intelligent and deep, none of that "ingeniously bad" Dan Brown stuff. But no pressure.

LOL.
Aine, I've probably got the same tutors as you - so if they really *do* hate sci fi and fantasy, I've been through it too ;). I can just about garunatee that they'll respect you no matter what they write - I'm a third year now, and I've been battling for the past several years to keep a straight face whenever Harry Potter comes up (no offense, just don't like it much).

:)

I'm working on a project I actually started in January (not continuously, with long spans of inactivity in there). It's called Godmark, and here's the blurb I came up with for it:

In the land of Tyrdia, every child is chosen by the gods to share in their gifts of magic. But there exists a girl, whom myth calls the Unseen, that no god will claim. Her search for purpose reveals a centuries-old war between the gods, of which she is at the very heart. She must find the strength to make choices that will destroy nations and shatter the foundations of her world.

I have no expectations of completing the draft for Nano, it's just too big! Here's hoping Nano gives me a good running start, though. :)

Here endeth the rambling. Okay, maybe not.

This year I'm working on two projects, a novel and a related short story to turn to when the first stumps me. The novel, "Mystopia" is an over-thought urban-fantasy-that's-not-really-fantasty thing framed as a story told to a somewhat unwilling listener by an extremely unreliable narrator, and the unnamed short story is one of the characters from said non-urban-fantasy taking her main character boyfriend on a quiet holiday and forcing him come to terms with some of the terrible things that have happened to him. Two stories I've been meaning to write for a while and I'm really looking forward to it.

As I have only written 7000-odd words so far, I'm nowhere near knowing what the hell will happen in my tale, but it is all based around a single line which a friend kindly allowed me to nick from their msn status. An original thinker, his line was equally unique and the novel was instantly there.

I write on the fly, if you like. I know the why, but not the how. I set fingers to keyboard and off we go, so it makes it somewhat difficult to explain the storyline.... as I don't know anything beyond these basic facts:-

Michael has always been followed by his 'trouble'. In his seventeenth year everything comes to a head with the arrival of Simon. Simon offers Michael a place at a school specifically developed for young men and boys with 'trouble' like Michael's. Although suspicious of the apparently 'no strings attached' offer, Michael knows he can't cope alone any more and accepts. What follows is how he learns to deal with his 'trouble' and how his relationship with Simon progresses over the ensuing years.

So there you are. Actually, I should copy that and stick it in the synopsis thingy!

I'm still working out what I'm writing!

So far it started kind of chick lit esque, and now it involves gardening and angels.

I don't know what's likely to happen next....
