Hey Peter, and anyone that pops in and feels saddened by the emptiness of this thread, feel free to join the North or South group.

Hello hello! I live in east charlotte - but not too far out. We are actually between Plaza Midwood and Chantilly, so pretty near down town. But officially east, with lots of cool coffee shops and library's around for writing. :)

Hi, Kimberly. Excellent news. I was hoping to find some WriMo folks in the neighborhood. I'm in Country Club Heights, on the other side of Plaza Midwood from you. We're not really East, as this thread is described. Or North, or South, or West. We're just central, Charlotte proper. Is there a central Charlotte thread?

Anyway, you're here, and I'm here. Perhaps we should form the Charlotte Proper thread. Anyone else in the vicinity?

I know three others in South park and Dilworth and Cotswold. Maybe we should try Panera on Proidence beside Manor theater. Also, the Dowd Y is probably a really quiet place to write on Sundays in the lounge area. It's dead on Sundays. (Open 12-6pm)

My daughter is also in - over in Plaza Midwood as you are, Paul.

And I would be game for the Panera by the Manor as a writing spot as well!

Never been to NoDa, but been meaning to go. Count me in! I can be there by around 7:00 PM or so, either night.

Great suggestion, thanks!

I'm so excited about people talking about getting together in NoDa or Plaza Midwood or Elizabeth - anywhere closer to Uptown.

Let me know where and when and I will try to be there!

I should get there by 6:30, with my computer and head phones, ready to write.
Looking forward to seeing you all and getting some serious work done!

I'll leave as soon as my husband gets home from work. He already warned me he will be working a little late tonight...

But I'll be there- I need to get caught up on my word count. I haven't been able to write this week much at all. I'm "on shift" from 5:15AM until hub gets home, which has been late all week. Good news is that I get to have a guilt-free writing catch-up and padding session at a hotel this weekend :-)

Sorry I couldn't make it last night. Hub ended up having to work very late.

No doubt we will have to do it again. Amelies was a great place for writing and coffee, and a chocolate too. :)

Sorry about the double postings - I just noticed it and don't understand why it happens. Apologies.

Something that might be more interesting than a double post on chocolates - Last night, I watched a movie on TCM called "The Last Emperor." It was the story about PuYi, China's last Imperial Emperor. He was crowned when he was 3 years old in the Forbidden City, and his life, though wonderful and incredible in many ways, was ultimately quite tragic. During the course of his life he became an unwitting pawn of the Imperial forces, the Japanese government, and the Communist revolutionaries. He was young and his entire life was lived at the top of the world and in turbulent times. He passed away in 1967. I tell you, I had no idea.

The movie was well done with lots of costumes, lots of detail (1987) and it was fascinating to me - partly because the it was something I had no familiarity with. Also, I am sure, because it was a great story and was beautifully told.

After watching I thought about how many amazing things have happened on the world stage in recent history. WWI, the Communist revolution, and WWII were intertwined in ways I certainly don't understand, and find shocking.

If I had watched this movie first and done a bit of research, I may have written a very different novel this month. I am taking a few notes in the notebook for Next Year.

Going now.

Write!

Excellent movie!

We're studying China right now (homeschool- 11 & 4 yr olds), and my husband said he would get The Last Emperor from Netflix.

Obviously I remember the movie better than he does- not for an 11 or 4 yr old!

lol

Agreed, not a movie for the young - but wow, what an education.
I am sure we studied China when I was young, and I certainly remember some of the ideas from the movie (e.g. the Anti-Manchurian League, for example), but I don't think I really processed them. I have put some books about this time on my reading list and plan to really learn.

It must be fun to home-school - you get to "relearn" all the things you learned so young, so that you can teach! Pretty danged nice!

Yes, everyone gets an education! The cool thing too, is things I learned long ago and thought I'd forgotten, get rekindled. It's a lot of fun, and surely useful for writing as well.

It's been forever since I've seen that movie, and I think I only saw the edited version on TBS long, long ago. I'll have to get it and see it again. The Bamboo Curtain made it difficult for anyone to study Chinese history for quite a while.

I'm just posting over here to see if anyone is interested in Amelie's this week? Thursday or Friday? I could make some goodies. Oh wait... that might be a conflict of interest if we're at a French Bakery. Hmmm... well, I'm lactose intolerant (majorly), so I might make some for myself anyways. LOL!

Hope to hear back!

What time Friday? I'll try again to make it out there- just leave whenever hub gets home from work. I drove by yesterday, so at least now I know where it is.

But I must question my motives... am I going to write, or am I going for the pumpkin goodies??

Friday it is then! 7-9:30 or 10:00pm? Sound ok?

Check out their website for a visual sample:

For me, I think I'm good for 7:00 - 10:00PM. I want to get a solid 2 hours of writing in, and with munching & sidebars & people watching distractions, I probably need to pad an hour- lol.

If no objections, I'll post to the official write-in thread. Please feel free to amend/lengthen the time in either direction, if you will be there at a different time.

Thanks!!

Ok, I realize I was the one who started the whole "Let's write at Amelie's Friday night" thing, but I am extremely under the weather right now, and won't be able to make it. Don't ask, long story. And no worries, even if I did come no one could catch what I have. ^__^

Ah, I don't suppose anyone's open for tomorrow or Sunday? I might just go and hang out there to get out of the house and get my word count up.

It's ok justtra. We'll miss you though. I had a reaction to a flu vaccine (dead vaccine, did not "get" the flu) earlier this week, so I was feeling badly too. But doing well now, and getting dinner ready so I can leave.

So I'm probably going to get there a little early, like around 6-6:30.

Happy noveling!

Dren - for the EAST group. Hoping to hit Amelie's again either tonight or tomorrow for a write-in. I've slacked all week and need to ramp it up again!

Hello Fellow Writers,

As I expected, this was a difficult week for me. I have to really make some progress this weekend. The good news is I think I have the path of the plot figured out. The bad news is that I didn't write at all for three days this week.

I am planning to do some time at Amelie's today - probably early afternoon (like, 1 to 3) - and also tomorrow (Sunday, the 22nd). I will put up a Write In post for tomorrow, but if any of you are considering a gathering for writing today, let me know!

Kimberly
