Are there any Shanghai people this year? I know that there were a few in 2008. I'm going to try to do NaNoWriMo this year, but it might be hard because I'm taking AP classes >.<

I live in Xuhui district at the moment. I think those in Shanghai used to meet in Xintiandi. Is it the same this year?

I'm doing nanowrimo again this year. As far as I know, people met last year at the Monday Evening Writer's meetings. Don't know what we'll do this year.

Hi I have just signed up and am residing in Shanghai. Seems incredible for a city of 17 million there are only 3 comments posted!! I suppose we just have to look harder.

I too heard about Nanowrimo from MEWS.

Hi, I'm in Pudong New Area. This is my first WriMo.
"NaNo awareness" in Shanghai doesn't look high... :(
So, does anyone want to do a write-in? I'm definitely in.
Good luck everyone!

Hi, this is my first time doing NaNo.
Seems like not too many people here know about it?
I heard about it from a Singaporean friend...

Good luck everyone!!

I'm in Wuxi, a bit from Shanghai. This is my fourth year of NaNoWriMo. I'd be delighted to do a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night write-in. Although it would be easier if anyone from Wuxi or the surrounding area were doing this, but as there's only a few people commenting even in Shanghai, I'll take what I can get.

Hi,
I'm not in Shanghai but one of my characters has just decided to go and move to 19th c Shanghai, which is quite irritating for me as I don't know anything about it. Could anyone here give me a few names male or female to use for people in Shanghai in the 1860s?

Thanks!

Standardcrow,

Very interesting to have someone in your magic oriented novel come to Shanghai. Neat!
Not sure how you want to use the people--or if they have to be real people or just people that might have been real.

1860 is when the Second Opium War ended so frankly you could probably invent a whole lot of people's names who might have come through here, but here is the Wiki for that which mentions a number of names from that period: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Opium_War

Here are some other websites that may help you with people/places in 1860s Shanghai.

Frederick Townshend Ward (arrived Shanghai 1860, died south of Shanghai 1862): http://www.earnshaw.com/shanghai-ed-india/tales/t-peop09.htm [Check out the rest of that site as its got some great old maps and other bits and pieces about various Shanghai personalities, though not all in your target dates]

Hope that helps,

bkclare
