Dear E-Bay NaNos,

This is my first year doing this, and I'm super-excited and would love to meet some other local NaNos. There are tons of little coffee shops scattered along Aquidneck Island, in Tiverton (where I live), and in Bristol.

If you think this is something you'd be into, let's do it! Feel free to send me a private message or respond here if you'd be interested. Maybe do Sunday morning meet-ups, as writing is our religion? :)

Thanks! Hope to see some of you.

~Kate in Tiverton

Hi...
Great idea for East Bay folks to have location -- I'm happy to go to PVD once in a while, but (insert Aquidneck Islander whining about bridge construction and how _far_ it is...)

There's a pretty good place with wifi on West Main Road in Portsmouth -- Custom House Coffee -- and I'd be happy to discover other places in Tiverton and Bristol.

Sunday mornings would work fine for me. I work 9-5 so I'm going to have to fit this in whenever I can.

Cheers.

I just posted in another thread that I think Coffee Depot in Warren would make a great place to meet up. :) It's got free Wi-Fi, lots of cozy chairs and tables, and delicious food and drinks!

Heck, I'm in Cranston but I love Tiverton. I might attend one of these just for the excuse to get out there. And pick up some Sakonnet...

I'm back in the game after a couple of years off. I'd love to meet somewhere on Aquidneck like Custom House, the Empire on Broadway in Newport, Slice of Heaven in Jamestown (I know, I know, I know- the bridge...), or even a library, etc. Shall we have an opening night write in- like, Portsmouth at 6-9PM???

Would anyone be interested in a Wednesday afternoon write-in in Warren? I usually go to the Coffee Depot on Wednesdays after school, usually getting there around 3:30 or 4:00pm, and I stay there until about 5:30 or 6:00pm. Does that sound good for anyone?

Hi, Tapit1...
I was thinking it would be fun to go up to PVD for the opening night (and unfortunately, I believe Custom House closes early on Sundays anyway so I think Portsmouth is out). If there's a group of East Bay folks who want to get together, I'm sure we could figure out a place.

Cheers.

Tapit, so great to see you back!

For those of you who don't know. Tapit served as the Aquidneck ML a few years ago, and was wonderful. If you're in that area and want some sage advice, you know who to turn to.

I'm also seriously thinking about making the opening night in PVD (though my writing for the day will be done by then... I'm an early-morning writer) but if there are enough people on the Island, I can ask about the back room (the former ARENA club) at Empire, since I go there four or five times a week anyway.

Hi...
If we have a critical mass on the Island, I'd vote to skip PVD, and Empire seems like a good choice. I'm usually a morning writer too -- but I'm expecting to be doing a lot on weekends. Glad to have a local option, and it would be great to meet other folks.

What thoughts does everybody else have?

Cheers.

Hi East Bay-ers,

I used to call my Middletown friend "The Barnacle" because it was so dang hard to scrape him off the island and get him to visit over where I was in Providence... then I moved to Warren... and realized it's a pain in the butt to go anywhere else! So I think that I will attend the kickoff in Providence, but after that I will be looking for something closer to home for meet ups, because, ya know, now I'm a barnacle too, I guess.

I like the idea of Sunday morning somewhere. I don't care much about the location. The Coffee Depot would obviously be convenient for me, but I can do somewhere on the island too. What about from like 8-noon and people can drop in whenever? You all can choose the location, I don't mind driving to Portsmouth or even Newport (woohoo, big traveler, I better pack snacks!). haha.

Looking forward to meeting you all,

Cat

Okay, East Bayers, let's put it to a vote to see what the interest is. For Sunday, November 1, do you prefer:

*8am-noon in Warren, or
*4-8pm on Aquidneck somewhere (Portsmouth or Newport were 2 of the options)

Let's try to get a consensus on this! Then we can confirm.

8am to noon in Warren sounds best to me - I'd still like to go to the state-wide one in Providence too, and that's at 5pm.

Hi, Kate...
I would vote for 4-8. Location I'm flexible -- East Bay is all good.

Cheers.

Hi...
Happy to do morning in Warren, but may not make it at 8. I'm planning to start writing at 12:01 and go till I run out of steam.

Cheers.

Hi East Bay,

I'm going to go to the Providence kick off to say hello, but I plan on doing local stuff Sunday mornings (Nov 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29) from 8am(?) - 12 noon at the Coffee Depot in Warren. Assuming that I can peel my eyelids open that early, that is. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is woefully under-caffeinated. Feel free to join me if you'd like. I will bring a power strip and hopefully a smile! (although the smile might not show up til 9 or 10am. It's even lazier than me in the morning). Hope that some of you can make the time/location!

Cheers,

Cat

The power strip is generous and always a good idea, though you might not need it there. Last I checked, Coffee Depot has a power strip running around the whole room. If you've got a bunch of people at one table, a power strip can be very helpful even then, though.

This is one of the best places for this anywhere in the state, and by far the best in East Bay. Only thing to watch for is their occasional music and other events.

Hi, East Bay folks...
Count me in for Sunday in Warren, although 8 am may be dicey. I will *try* to make it every week -- I know how important having a check-in is. Look forward to meeting everyone.

Can't believe it's finally here.

Cheers.

Thanks for the nod, Sapphie! Remember the closing celebration at the Empire? I've still got the newspaper clippings! Great to hear from you and hope to meet more East Bay writers this year....

Hi, East Bay...
Coffee Depot is great but crowded on a Sunday morning -- no tables! Forced to haunch at the window on a stool. But writing! Hope everyone else is too.

Cheers.

Hi...
Noon is a possibility. I had the best intentions of getting up to Warren by 8 am, really, but, well...

Cheers.

I saw you sitting up there! I said to myself, "Hmmm.... I bet that's a NaNo-er!" but I'm kind of shy and so I didn't come over to investigate. I was hiding in the back.

This week I will put a sign up on my table (if I can get one) saying NaNoWriMo and I'll wear a bright red hoodie.

I hadn't been to the Depot before - I really enjoyed it! The folks were really friendly, the food and tea was good, and the music was nice and not obtrusive.

Hope that everyone is having a good week so far and maybe I'll see some of you on Sunday!

Hi..
Sorry, figured there were other NaNo-ers there, but with so many folks working on laptops, I didn't want to randomly walk up to people. Felt a little weird.

It is a great location -- a nice, quite space, and the latte was excellent. If I can get moving early on Sunday, I'll stop by.

Cheers.

This is actually just a shout out to any folks I know from previous years of doing this. I had rotator cuff surgery last month, so expected participating would prove impossible. But my shoulder is improving and I got this great idea about the third week of Oct., so I concentrated on figuring out the basics of the story, then set to work on 1 Nov. I'm now 12,178 words in and enjoying this the most of any time I've done it. Just really enjoying this story (mostly because I can see not just the beginning, but the middle and the end as well)!

I'm going to stay cloistered working on it for the next few days, then need to go to CT for a course 11-13 Nov, but after that I'd definitely be up for a write-in.

Cheers to Tapit1, Sapphie, and other old friends and to all the rest of you I hope to get to know soon.
