I'm just curious: it's less than 10 days until NaNoWriMo officially begins, and I'm sure we're all working on our plots (or not, hehe). What are your novels about?

I'll answer my question first: mine's an adventure nearly 800 years in the making and telling. It's historical fiction, and it starts in Medieval Italy and ends in modern day Manila, in the Philippines. It's all about generations of dancers who dance in secret. I know, it sounds kooky, but I'll try to un-kooky-fy the novel.

So, what's YOUR plot?

It doesn't sound kooky at all!

Here's my plot: Mine's a historical fiction piece set in 3 phases of 2 character's life - 1930, 1940's, and 1980's - and how they become friends and the male character helps the female character grow out of her autistic shell and open up.

I certainly would be interested in reading both of your novels!

Mine is a combination between fantasy/sci-fi/christian novel. Three families created an organization to help keep what is known as paranormal just that... paranormal. In reality, it's all normal. It will also consist of the deals that were made between heaven and hell and the war that is being carried out on Earth between the two realms. How those who are aware of this war have chosen sides and fight. And while all of this is happening, my heroine must deal with her past demons, her current problems, and the mystery behind the demon for whom she is falling.

My novel is actually the second in the trilogy. Last year, I wrote about a girl who discovers that she is half valkyrie and she goes to Asgard to train. In the second novel, she travels the nine worlds to get to Nifelheim (Hel) and rescue a friend who was not considered heroic enough to remain in Valhalla. Right now, I am super excited that the Norse believed in dwarves, elves, giants, and shape shifters; it's going to be an exciting journey!

I so ♥ Norse mythology!

All I know about my novel is that it will involve living gargoyles. Oh, and I've got cover art.

It's looking like a women's lit bit about a big-city, middle-aged woman who is left with nothing when her husband leaves her FOR a floozy and WITH a huge debt from their restaurant. Of course, he made the deal with criminals, so thugs are looking to collect.

She takes off for Indiana, where she can hide, and takes over a former restaurant that winds up being Amish because she can't afford to change the sign. Problem is, the real Amish restaurant down the highway isn't pleased, especially when her food is better than theirs. (And this other woman has a secret: She's been shunned, so she doesn't have to play nice.) Some travel writer stumbles upon the place and writes it up. Gets picked up by the wire service and runs all over the place.

Notoriety is nice - until the thugs find out.

Mine's the fourth in a series of novels I started writing when I was living in France years ago. I wrote the third book for NaNoWriMo last year and am currently trying to finish the second in the series (yeah, it's nuts writing things out of order). The first in the series is already published, so I'm working really hard to get the rest of the series done (thank you NaNoWriMo for keeping me going!) because the people who've read the first book are pestering me to continue. This particular one is where the main character, a young woman who is an apprentice magician working as the court magician to a queen of a moderately-sized kingdom, has a sort of falling out with her mentor just before he is whisked away to his home on urgent family business. Left on her own, she mopes around with her familiar and pet panther until an old friend from book three turns up to visit. The queen sends the main character on a diplomatic mission to a neighboring kingdom without telling her that the king of said country is looking to marry and form an alliance. If things work out, the main character might end up married to a king she doesn't like, but if they don't, it could mean war. The book is going to take a much darker tone than the previous three, so it's going to be interesting to see if I can make it all work out without losing the momentum I've gained with the other three books.

I'm not sure yet, but the other day, an idea got rattling around in my head.

A man summons Hell itself onto Earth, the book follows the adventures of some regular people who have to now live in this world.

My book is about a woman who's mother died when she was very young, and so the woman never knew her, and she only had a diary and a few momentos of her mothers, and this woman gets involved with a horse that reminds of her of her mother, and by the end of the story, she feels that she emotionally connects with her late mother and feels complete. Does this sound yucky?

My story is about a girl named Ella O'Conner. When she was 12 she wrote a list of things that would make the perfect guy (that her friends started calling 'the peter list' sometime after the 3th peter she dated). Some are silly but some were added as time went on and her heart got broken. And after the 4th heart break and the 6th boyfriend, Ella and her best friends take a road trip to find her "perfect peter".

This is my first official attempt at writing a novel. The novel will be a journey of self discovery as the main character travels through various situations and meets characters that reflect his (or her... not sure of the gender yet) growth. I've had a basic framework for this novel for several years and finally decided this year was the year to take it out of my head and really look at it. I am looking forward to this novel taking a life of its own.

Myyyyy lovely story that I will be killing myself over for the next 30 days is the first in a series of three books. This first book will be detailed a girl named Lilly who recently broke free of a society that harbored people like herself: people with gifts. She has the ability to to an exchange of life energies with living objects. Along the way she meets a guy who is secretly fighting cystic fibrosis. Over the course of the story she will be learning about what it means to truely be human

It's always more exciting than I make it out to e, just horrible at writing little quips.

My novel's going to be fantasy with a tragic tale entwined. This is a third rewrite of a novel I started in 2004. I rewrote it in 2007 to a way I liked, but didn't plan enough beforehand to finish it, and I decided NaNoWriMo could be the perfect opportunity to rewrite it again! :D It has creatures based on a mix between angels and demons, that are corrupted (even though they were intended for good) but they can't kill children (because it's in their essence to protect the future. Children in the book are considered the future - so killing them could undo their existence.) A band of people are set to destroy the Guardian (name of the creatures) that's set to ruin Ordilyn (their land). However, killing a Guardian would unleash its soul (which is a power in itself) upon the nation, sending it into destruction. So...now they have to figure out how to destroy (or imprison) the Guardian, without ending Ordilyn. It's got a lot to do with that, but also with character development; I tend to focus a lot of my work around the personal trials of the characters. I suppose that's why the title "Trials of Ordilyn". Each character undergoes personal sacrifices, deceit, and much more to reach their goal; the very ending, however, is determined by what they may have learned on their journeys, and what they are willing to sacrifice...and what for.

It's nothing amazing. D: I'm terrible at writing summaries, hah.
But it should be fun to write. :D

My story is about a father and his two 20-something sons who have been hunting his wife's/their mother's murderer for several years. It delves a lot into their relationships with each other and their inner struggles as they try to track down the elusive killer.

I've been writing this story for several months and just haven't been able to finish. I'm hoping NaNo will give me the boost I need.

Good luck to everyone!

My story is about a 15 year old girl named Jackie that is still grieving over her father after many years. Then, she meets a guy named Hector who asks her if she'd come on an adventure with him. She agrees and then gets thrown into a world of mystical creatures.

I plan for it to be a mix of angst, tragedy, romance, friendship, fantasy, etc. I'm hoping it'll turn out quite well. I've been learning more about writing for the past year and a few months ago I had decided to finally write my own novels. This one is going to be a new project, even though I have six already. Ha-ha.

Good luck to everybody! Especially to my Internet friends and my dear Indiana residents. *winks*

"Perfect Peter" for some reason just got me giggling. This would be something I would love to read though. It sounds like something that would be right up my alley. I thought at first you were going to do a magic book where the "Perfect Peter" somehow comes to life from her list, but I like the road trip idea more. It is more fresh and interesting. :-)

My story is about two girls that were not friends in high school but knew each other from going to the same school in Indiana. Now they are both in California and have found each other again but under very different circumstances. Both girls are living in the same homeless shelter. One of the girl's case manager asks her to try to connect with this girl from her past to help her reconnect with the person she used to be before she let drugs take over her life and if she does she will get a 6 month extension on her stay in the shelter, so the two girls decide to act like they are friends to help the one get her extension in the shelter. Little do they realize just how much they are going to need each other when the truth of the one's past comes out and the one that is a drug addict has to come to terms with her demons as well.

This novel is a littler over a year in the making. I had a lot of random scenes already written out prior to this, but I'd never actually put them together until now. Anyway, There will be five parts in all (about 15000 words a piece, for now. Going for 75000 words this month) and each one is focused on one or two of the boys that work at an alternative brothel owned by a 30-something ex-prostitute. It's got some pretty ideologically sensitive subject matter, but it should offer a good read. Hoping to write the second novel once NaNoWriMo is finished and, if their stories are still ongoing, write the third and final novel for next year's contest.

Mine is inspired by a recent news story and is a tragic romance. If anyone saw the story about a bottle washing up on a Cornish Coastline, and it contained a letter written in french and a lock of brown hair. I'm making up the story about the woman and her love, who had to leave her apparently to return to his wife. Thought it had the makings of a good story, and it was just in time for Nanowrimo!

I am writing a historical fiction novel that takes place during the Heian period in Japan. My central character is Takani, who is the third wife of a court noble. Although this time period permits affairs and multiple wives, Takani resents sharing her husband with his other wives and lovers and longs to be his favorite wife. Despite her leisure life, Takani is miserable because of her jealousy and loneliness. She comes to rely on the friendship and guidance of another aristocrat named Myobe.
I could have written a more interesting description, but I don't like to give away the ending. I want to surprise my twin sister, who is also writing a nanowrimo and is a member of this region.

Hey, sis, can't waite to read the ending. I am interested to see how this situation develops. The other writers in this forumn have great ideas too! This is going to be an interesting November.

My novel is a fantasy/parody that mocks the romantic image of King Arthur and his court. The main character is a girl named Pig who works as a gong farmer. Because her proffesion only allows her to work at night, she knows nothing of what King Arthur's court is really like. She thinks that knights are magnificant because they aren't covered in filth like she is. Meanwhile, Sir Kay, one of the knights who enjoys few of the perks of his status, accidently kills his own page while demonstrating a new weapon. Sir Lancelot and his cronies decide that Sir Kay needs a new page, and as a joke, they appoint Pig. To Pig's dismay, Sir Kay does not meet her expectations of what a knight should be, and she, being the spunky female protagonist cliche, decides to make it her goal to help Sir Kay become an ideal knight. She sees her chance when Arthur charges his knights to seek the Holy Grail; however, Sir Kay's mission is different for only those knights who fit the mold can seek the most holy artifact. Sir Kay alone recieves the task of finding the second artifact carried by Joseph of Arimathea, the Holy Bread Box, that carried the body of Jesus. Not even knowing what a bread box is, Sir kay and company set out for their quest. They are soon joined by a Hamish, a superstitious dwarf, Dalmat, an unfaithful rogue knight who is cursed by every woman he meets, and Walter, an enchanter who accidently turned himself into a woman. Together, they made up the illustrious group known as The Knights of the Holy Something-or-other.
