Because, if there are more than myself and my best friend, it might be fun to have a Springs write-in!

It might not be Yellow Springs, but myself and a friend are up in not-too-far-away Springfield. But I'm sure she'd love to drive down and meet at a cafe to kick-start the process sometime after Halloween.

Add me and let me know. =]

I'm in Troy and could possibly make a Yellow Springs event.

We have at least three confirmed Wrimos here in Yellow Springs and we're talking about adding some write-ins in the village at the Emporium. At this moment my teen as a flu and I've been asked to stay home as much as possible until her fever breaks by the doctor so I'm not going to be able to attend any opening day festivities but I will keep this thread posted as soon as I'm allowed to come out and play again.

It would be great to meet you all!

Hi All and especially Nikki,

Long story short, I thought I was moving out to the West Coast mid-October, got there (had many adventures in two weeks) and decided it wasn't for me and will be returning to Yellow Springs on November 3rd. (Think Arabian Nights.) What's this got to do with Nano? Well, I had planned to organize something this year....but then I got this CA call, see....anyway, I'm back. Or nearly back. At the moment, I'm actually in the San Francisco area. North Bay. 70 degree weather. Clear skies. Palm trees. Yeah, and I return to Yellow Springs late Tuesday night. ;-)

I suggest we all do something on the following Sunday (the 8th) at the Emporium, if that's agreeable? It will need to be in the afternoon as the Emporium is overrun in the mornings with breakfast folk. Tables can be moved, the drip coffee is cheap, there's free wi-fi, and the atmosphere is pleasant. (I used to work there). Saturday is also a possibility, but again, due to the breakfast rush, a write-in would need to convene in the afternoon. The hours of the Emporium are 7-7 on Saturday and 7-6 on Sunday. This is all assuming, of course, that the Emporium itself isn't hosting something. Will have to check it out. We could certainly have our Thank God It's Over Party there.

As a background, I stepped into the shoes of our local ML in Edinburgh (Scotland) two years ago when he pulled out for personal reasons and left our group headless. Was never an official ML, just kept it going. The group flourished and is now called the Nanobeans (we met at a coffee shop called The Beanscene in Edinburgh). This will be my fifth Nano. I'm writing Science Fiction this year.

What say the rest of you? Ready for some high-octane noveling?

I live in the not so far off Springfield and it would be pretty awesome to have a group to write with. It's all assuming I can figure out a way to get there but I am hoping and praying. It might be good to bounce ideas off of people too as I write instead of no one around me having no idea about writing and such.

Yay to KK!

She's the one that came up with the idea of meeting at the Emporium, which I think is great. As she mentioned, she also has ML experience while I was just throwing darts to see what would stick.

I'm all for doing something on the 8th in the afternoon as long as all in my house are healthy. What time would be good? When does the morning rush die down? 11? Noon?

We have a date! Now all we need is a time.

Kalio, having people around can be a huge help. ::nods:: If you need a ride, let me know. We might be able to work something out. ;-)

Lincoln here,

Hmm, I may be working the garden at the Antioch campus the afternoon of the 8th. If I do get a chance to break away from that for a couple of hours, I still wouldn't be able to make anything before, say, 12:30 in the afternoon. On the other hand, since I'm not sure if I can make it at all, you might do better to find a time which works for the rest of you, and not bother about accommodating me to start.

Just a thought.

Hi Lincoln,

Write-ins usually last for at least a few hours. So even if it starts a little earlier than 12:30 you could still show up and join in as soon as you had the chance. :-)

Hi Everyone,

Great that you're getting excited. In Ohio, you've already started the race. I await the moment impatiently here in CA.

FYI: The Emporium serves breakfast until noon on Sundays, so 12:30 would be MUCH better. Really, I would say 2:00 to 5:00 is a great chunk of time and about 2:00 people begin to clear out of the Emporium. Also, the employees change shifts at 1:30, so you'll get fresher, less fried folk serving you coffee.

But anything after 12:30 could do as well. The Emporium also provides soup and sandwiches for lunch, but this is a more haphazard thing....it's strictly serve yourself at that point. Would be great if we could get a table of folk together, all writing like maniacs. By Sunday the 8th, we will be starting the Dreaded Week Two, so some may feel it crucial to meet up at that juncture. Cheerleading is very important ('Come on, you can do it!') in Week Two. It's then that many well-intentioned Wrimos fall by the wayside.

Nikki, Baty's book, 'No Plot? No Problem!' is in the YS Library. It would be good to call the librarians and ask them to put a hold on it by phone. I can pick it up during the week (once I re-open my library card again....) and bring it to the write-in. Baty's humor is lovely and very inspiring. Could read a few excerpts to keep us going. Is the library still closed on Sundays?

By the way, Baty has a kennel for all of your nagging, red-pen wielding inner editors....in the book, he suggests that you lock them up for the entire month ...together.....where they can watch stupid soaps and criticize each OTHER to their heart's content....thus allowing all the gentle novelists in Nanoland to get on with writing their novels in peace. Write-ins are not critique sessions, no, no, no! (If you want that then join the Antioch Writer's Workshop in the summer....also a goodly thing). NANO write-ins are high-octane, writing in good company, creative sprints. And they're FUN. ;-)

And just so everyone knows, I wasn't an official ML in Edinburgh, just an ad hoc stand-in. I did, however, work with the Real ML on the Isle of Skye (at a distance) and am still in contact with her today. We do, it seems, have real MLs for the Ohio, Elsewhere site in Nanoland. And they will be worth getting in touch with, too. They may even visit us! With chocolate.....;-)

Kind regards,

Kate

Hi All,

Let me begin by saying AARRGGR.

Have just checked the Emporium schedule online and would you believe it, someone in town has scheduled a WRITING CLASS on all the Sundays of November. She starts at 4:30 pm. So, I'd say we'd need to start at, say, 1:00 and go until 4:00. Or even 12:30. That way we'd be assured of getting some wall sockets. My laptop's battery has stopped holding its charge, so I must plug in. Don't know about the rest of you...?

Saturday at the Emporium has conflicts of varying types.

What say you guys????

I'm fine with 1 unitl 4 on Sundays. Heck, maybe people would be interested in seeing what those writing classes are about or they might be curious about NaNoWriMo. :-)

1-4 or 12:30-4 or 12:30-3:30 all sound fine to me.

I don't have problems with the times. Just have to tell my mom that I have to be home that day or else talk her into driving me there right after church. I think I should have news on whether I can make it or not on Wednesday.

Hi Wrimos of Yellow Springs Hub,

I'm officially here now. Have got my new library card and have ordered a copy of Baty's book from Xenia and expect to see the whites of its pages by Sunday.

New Offer of Location:

Have moved in with a friend here in YS, and she's kindly offered the house to us for our write-ins. She has a large table downstairs that can expand, etc. and I'm happy to make copious amounts of coffee or tea for ya'll. Soooo, we could meet whenever....and on whatever day suited everyone, including Saturday. I'm also up for the Emporium. Yellow Springs is tiny and our house is only a street away from the Emporium. 120 South Walnut Street. My cell: 1-415-755-8289. Yes, it's a California extension. AT&T doesn't care.

One thing, if we end up at the Emporium: bring earphones and music to write by....kids come and plink on the piano at the Emporium sometimes and it is loud. Earphones will save you.

So, I think we're ON one way or another on Sunday. (Or Saturday.)

Nikki how's the health of 'your house'? You feeling energized?

Oh, and yes, I'm officially behind in my wordcount today. Grumble. Too much travelling in two days and was exhausted. So that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. Of course, today, I have NO excuse. Ha.

See everyone soon. Looking forward to it. K

Hi all,

That is so nice of your roommate to offer her house to us.

I was thinking, though, that maybe just for the first one we should keep it public. It sounds like we might have some younger people coming and maybe everyone would feel a little comfortable getting to meet each other for the first time at the Emporium. Then, once we break the ice, we could move it to the house?

Thoughts?

It seemed like Sunday worked pretty well for people. I do think we need to set a definitive time and place so everyone can plan. I know that not everyone might be able to make it but there are lots of write-ins in the Dayton area (check out the Regional Calendar in the Dayton Forum) so there will be other chances. Plus, I'm hoping we can do more than on in Yellow Springs, too. :-)

I'm feeling okay. I'm pretty hopeful in being able to make it on Sunday.

Go, Wrimos, go! Get those word counts up.

Hi Everyone,

Okay, so let's meet at the Emporium here in Yellow Springs on Sunday the 8th from 1:00 until 4:00 pm. The address for the Emporium is: 233 Xenia Avenue. Their website is www.emporiumwines.com and the phone number is: 937-767-7077.

See ya'll there. Again, don't forget your earphones. Might not need them, but then again, you might! ;-)

Bring those novels!

Hey Everyone,

Ohio, Elsewhere is in 121st place worldwide, beating Rhode Island and Denmark by a bit. I think it was Rhode Island. Anyway, I figured you'd want to know!

Am caught up on my wordcount for yesterday and am forging ahead.

Well, no church for me tomorrow and my dad is going to talk to my mo about taking me over to yellow springs. If they don't have the time to take me over mind if one of you guys pick me up if it's not too much trouble? You can probably get ahold of me easily through messenger (kalio-chan@hotmail.com) or else my cell 937-536-9621 just tell me who you are when you text me/call me or whatever so I'm not all like o-o "Err who are you creepy stalker person?"

I had a good time, thanks for organizing the write-in! If the Dayton group doesn't get a halfway party planned for next Sunday I'll be there again, and if they do I'll still be there the rest of the Sundays in November. The more write-ins the better, especially when they're in town.

I enjoyed the Write-In as well. I slightly wish I had hit 5k by the time I got home but my mom made me so distracted that I ended up falling asleep really early. Ah well, I found a new way to help myself write and not think about the word count. So hopefully I will catch up completely this way. Wish write-or-die for the desktop was free and not 10 dollars too. It looks really awesome.

What a fab picture! Love it.

Well, Miss Xenia, come and join us next Sunday at the Emporium 1-4. See earlier post for more specific instructions. Do you have a way to get to us? (YS being your lovely, laid-back, hippie suburb!)

Im sorry guys I wont be able to make it this Sunday. I'm going to great bear lodge to go swimming sunday because my dad's unit has him doing family briefings and I can swim for free. It's not like I dont want to go but I'm falling behind by almost 10k and I know I could easily rack up 4k at the write in like I did last week XP

Anyways, have fun guys~
