Ok, I am still procrastinating, and I stumbled across the write-a-thon page, and thought, 'that is a really good idea, I wish I could go.' I can't go, cos even if I could get the sponsorship together there is no way in hell I could afford the plane tickets to get over there.

So, I popped on over to the suggestion board and posted a note asking if they fancied extending it and having one in other places as well. Such as in the UK. Then I got to thinking. Why can't we have one of our own? It doesn't have to be big, we maybe don't need to get sponsored or anything, but why not have a competetive write-a-thon of our own at somepoint during November?

I am sure between all of us we could find someone who would be willing to pitch in with a couple of daft little bits as prizes for most words written, least words written, ect. And they dont have to be expensive (tho i sure wouldn't mind the prizes the big write-a-thon is doing) It also doesn't have to be the full 6 hour thing that the other one is doing (my fingers would drop off if I typed none stop for 6 hours) but maybe if we had one evening and did maybe a three or four hour session with little incentives, it might be fun. It would also help with the word counts and the word wars.

Yeah, I can go with that idea, but why not make it another month? Some people... alright me... find words and ideas come as easy as squeezing a coconut.

An event at a different time would lessen the pressure of the main task of November and it would be a good excuse for some extra socializing -maybe even involving the non-writing members of our families.

I'd be happy to help out with the planning and obtaining some prizes. We can kick a few ideas about on Thursday at the Shakey.

My Co-ML and I have been discussing an extended and possibly overnight write-in which is essentially the same thing! We haven't mentioned it yet because it's still early days and our newer Wrimos might have missed out on hearing about it, but we're very open to the idea.

We already have the official stickers as prizes, and maybe if all attendees chipped some small amount of money to cover the costs of prizes/refreshments/whatever else everyone agrees would be necessary for an awesome event it would be possible to host and also donate the remainder to the Office of Letters and Light as a region.

We welcome everyone's thoughts on this?

Many great ideas have been lost because the people who had them could not stand being laughed at.

That sounds like a great plan. Both of them, one in November and one after NaNo as well (providing my fingers don't drop off) I would think that everyone could maybe bring some food with them, or a little something as prizes and a couple of quid as a donation/to cover costs. As someone who stays up until the early hours of the morning I don't mind stopping up most of the night. Though I think regular finger stretching breaks will be in order.

Thursday seems to be a good day for discussing further ideas, and I shall be along tomorrow as well (I actually have some money for it now)

I like the idea. Not sure how well I'll be able to write with other people around me as I've only ever written around my daughter, but I'd like to try!

My usual problem is that I can't type fast enough to keep up with my brain.
