Hello,

I'm 33 and live in Aachen, Germany.

My story will be written in German and it's an adventure / fantasy comedy with a silly title that's a pun on a German idiom: der Maulaffenpfeil. It literally means "The Gawker's Arrow"

All I have so far is a female main character who has the skills of a classic fantasy hero but prefers to stay at home to cook, eat, and slack off. Her sidekick is a little know-it-all, who does actually know it all, because she ate wisdom with spoons when she was a kid (that's another idiom). The antagonist is an evil wizard who put the heroine on the other end of the world where she is supposed to get the arrow for him. She does so reluctantly, but her main objective is just to get home. On the way there, many (hopefully funny) adventures prevent her from reaching that goal. Oh, and the chapter headings will all be puns on indioms. So I hope you find that sort of thing funny if you're willing to mentor me.

As I only registered to participate yesterday and didn't plan anything before then I could use some help. The story will be written in German but I'm happy to converse in English with you, should you chose to adopt me as your shiny-eyed newbie.

*grabs a cardboard 'free to good home mentor' sign and food bowl*

Nearing 17, native of Ohio. Science fiction will be my novel's genre, and I'm unsure if it will be exclusively working with a pair of synthese, or if I will really flesh out a developing story that involves one, along with a clone and some robots. xD

I'm really just making these up as I go. All I have so far are characters and the basic plot.

The main, or one of the main, characters in either plot will be a 25 year old woman with synethesia, a condition in which the brain mixes signals between senses. In the case of this character, she sees sound- mainly voices and music, she's learned to tune herself out to background noise for the most part. In the first plot, which I think I would not be able to pad out to 50,000 words, she would have lived a normal life, with the exception of any insane dares she took. When the story starts, she would have traded childish dares for working as a lab rat- if she fits qualifications, she will sign up for testing. The one she gets involved with then would be a double study in isolation and synethesia, seeing if being deprived of all color and nearly all sound will lessen the condition. The woman running the test has the condition as well, but in her case, she never mastered drowning out background noise and is constantly bombarded with colors that have caused her to take desperate measures in hopes of at least decreasing the severity of what she sees. The story would then be Madison (the testee) coping with the slow decline into mental instability, as well as her relationship with the tester, Susan. It's... a little like The Long Walk, but just two people. (There will be more, especially in terms of back story, but I'm working that out.)

The second one involves Madison again, but this time she would have been a test subject her entire life, used to study the effects of isolation and other mental strains. When she was 16, they ended testing on her and allowed her to mingle with others, provided that she take medication to keep her from having psychotic episodes- the end result of the tests gave those studying her answers, but left Madison herself with a fear of being alone, as well as having the potential to lapse into psychotic episodes that cause her to hallucinate and possibly injure herself or others.

The setting would be a far off future (as opposed to the other, which is a very near future, probably 2020 or so), on an orbiting station that has been active for a hundred years or so. It was built for the purpose of rather unsavory tests (like the aforementioned isolation, genetic experimentation, things like that) on human subjects. Most were cloned, others (like Madison) were born from those who agreed to donate eggs and all for that purpose.

This plot has a larger cast of characters, with the other main three being a 20-something man who is a clone of the son of a scientist there (her son ended up growing sick after some accident, and eventually died), and two androids- one was designed to care for the clone, as he is quite fragile and prone to medical emergencies, and an autopilot who once grew attached to one of her captains, and ended up going into a literal breakdown when he died. Her mind was undamaged, and later revived by one of the roboticists on the Station. Again, little idea of where exactly I'm going with it, but I do have a few scene ideas at the least.

Hey, I'm Corey. This is (as the term 'newbie' emplies) my first year doing NaNoWriMo. And, well, I need a little help managing all of the craziness. I'm 16, live in NE, and I love to write. My usual genres are the following: Fantasy, Action, Romance, Drama and possibly a little bit of Sci-Fi.

My novel, well, is going to be one of two (sort of three) ideas:

1. A gay romance novel. Well, not in the sense that it's an actual romance novel, but it's a story of growing up, surviving your last year of high school, and dealing with teenage issues. It's about Nicholas Greene, and all the problems he has to deal with when all he wants to do is graduate, get a boyfriend, and coast on into college. It'll be romance and realistic fiction.

2. A complete re-writing of my story 'Iron Gate', which is about teens with supernatural powers (aka telekinesis, and the like). The main character is Morgan Setting, who believes herself to be on the "good" side, and she fights evil. Kind of a star-crossed lovers sort of thing. It's fantasy, a little bit of action, some drama, and a whole heap of romance.

3. Possibly a sci-fi book about someone who's immortal, and how they feel about being in the future... It's not very developed, and it'll be sci-fi, romance, some inner reflection, drama and some action.

Hello!
I'm Kalyndie ,(will also respond to Kay or "hey, you") age seventeen. I don't give out my real name online.
I live in Connecticut, in the northeast corner.

I'm writing about a production of Romeo and Juliet.
My MC's are all teens, so it's a young adult novel.
So, basicly the story is this:
The cast of the show is incredibly diverse, not your average theater group of drama kids and such. Because of this, the relationships between the cast members grow from practicaly hating each other to being a tight-knit group of near family. The actors are rather like their characters that they are playing, although not entirely the same. Anywho, once the cast actually operates as a cast, things fall apart. The director wants to remove/supress the LGBT actors, my favorite MC has his heart broken, emotions run high, nobody's ready for opening night...Happy ending after all though.

Excuse my crappy spelling. :(
Other info: I plan on handwriting my entire novel, since I type insanly slow.

*looks all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed*
Thanks muchly!

I feel like I'm making an introduction into a twelve-step program *looks around awkwardly*

I'm Lita. I'm a 20-yr-old North Carolinian and a music major in college, and normally I'm not really head-over-heels about writing, or maybe I should say that I seriously lack confidence in my writing. However, I'm in a creative writing course at college this semester and it's giving me a reason and the desire to flex my fiction-muscles. I thought Nano would be a good way to dip my toes into the idea of it and give it a shot.

The genre my plotbunny's making his home in is mystery/thriller. The story covers a roughly seven-year period of time in my MC's life, from age 4 to 11, and more than likely it's going to be an epistolary novel -- the whole novel will be diary entries and maybe a handful of letters from teachers. The basic plot is going to be about a best friend who winds up being a bad influence on my MC all through elementary school and into middle school, where their relationship becomes quite unhealthy, to say the least. Ultimately through some tragic and morbid event the audience realizes that the best friend is a hallucination and that the MC is a childhood schizophrenic. As for what the tragic event will be, I've no clue, but I have some ideas for different events that will happen in my MC's life and different circumstances that will keep the audience believing that the best friend is real until the last possible moment.

So yeah. If someone wants to adopt an inexperienced writer who is simply trying to explore her potential, hit me up.

Hi! I'm Mel, 23, from the North Carolina east coast. ^^ I've technically signed up for NaNoWriMo for a couple of years now, always with the intention of writing something, but never doing anything seriously (due to school). Since I'm out of school now, I thought I'd give this another shot. I have a real procrastination problem, though I have a lot of ideas and a love of writing, so I really need someone to give support, encouragement, and a good kick in the ass.

Genre and novel? I'm not entirely sure. I'm kicking around a couple of ideas, a couple of which are original and a couple of which are fanfiction. I'm not 100% which one I intend to pursue, especially since I've never talked to anyone about any of these ideas (without feeling stupid). But, uh, if you're willing to adopt me, just shoot me a message, yes? =)

I'm not sure I need to be adopted. I'm 55. I'm not working except in November when I'll be writing a novel. Ha Ha. I won't go into much about my novel other than to say it was partly inspired by "1984", my former employment and maybe a bit by The Office (American version - haven't seen much of the British). I had always wanted to expand a very short story of mine into a novel, but had it on the back burner for years. Circumstances led me to consider merging my job experiences with this short story into novel idea. Which I have gone beyond considering now.

Maybe it should be called 2054. Which is also the year I'll be 100 if I live that long. I want to attempt making this story very funny and very sad if possible. Although, for now, I'm just going to see what flows out of my pen (or computer keyboard).

Hi all!

My name is Ella. I am 44 and live in the Portland Oregon area.

My novel is going to simply be My Story. It is my biography of my life from the beginning to current. I plan to include stories from my mom and dad that they used to tell me. I want to write something that I can always be adding to so that I can pass it on to my daughter when she gets older.

Hi I'm Natasha

15 Years old
I live in Auckland, New Zealand
I don't really know what Genre, it's kind of Romance/Action/Young Adult/Fantasy sort of thing... it hasn't really been worked out yet
About my Novel... Well it hasn't all been worked out yet... But it's [very basically] about two outcasts finding love, and trying to make peace in a society that doesn't accept them, but it's also mixed in with adventure and magic... it's quite hard to describe [mostly because I've only got the faintest idea of a plot, and that's all in my head]

Thanks!

Hello.

My name is Angel and I am 26-years-old. I currently live in North Carolina. I have had the idea for my story in my head forever but needed motivation to write it out. Ive been writing now for several years but it involved things like role-plays and short stories. This is my first Novel though I am getting more and more excited by the moment. Soooo, if you want to adopt me, a little bit of help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

My Genre: I believe is Fantasy.

A little about the story:
I am going to give you the basic's. There is a main character or should I say pair and a secondary main of a group of people. MC and others with abilities that are not considered human are taken to another 'realm' and find there to be a small community/town and a college set up for them. Everyone there that runs the school except for one person, has abilities. They are taught that they are not freaks or mistakes but the next evolution of humans. Based on this they learn and live a new life suited around them.
The problem is, when they took my MC in they knew about her past and potential problems that come up. The first of which is her uncle who believes in her fathers theory. He finds his way to my MC and tries to grab her. What he didn't realize is she was grown more and gained a good amount of knowledge of her ability. More so, she now had friends.
Basically there is a series of events that happen while she is in college and they start to bring her past around pushing it in front of her. Causing her to question things and making her life a touch difficult. Confusing her when she sees she is no longer alone in dealing with it. A problem I am having is coming to an conclusion in the novel though the one I came up with is interesting and would want me begging for another book.

Ok. If you adopt me, I have no problem being more descriptive about what the book is about. I get a wee bit too excited and my explanation ends up too jumbled and mixed with scenes.

Thank you for looking.

Wicked

Hi!

My name is Vicky. I'm 24, living in Delaware, and looking for a mentor. Not to be picky (or offensive) but I'd prefer a mentor who is my age or older and has AIM/Yahoo/GTalk to communicate with. I'll live you with a bit of information about my (currently disorganized) novel, please NaNoMail me if you are interested! :)

In it's basic form I'm writing a Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel. It's going to end up being a bit dark, and I'm not even sure if it will have a happy ending. There are a lot of things I'm not really sure about plot wise at the moment, I just have a lot of themes and basic ideas.

My world has two separate factions. One is highly evolved technologically, but corrupt and generally discontent. The second is less evolved technologically, but a much happier place. The technological faction looks down upon the less technological faction; there is a lot of oppression, a less organized form of slave trade where people are used for experiments, etc. There's going to be an organization formed from members of both factions in an attempt to quell the bigotry and "racism" that's happening between the two factions. I might even through in a bit of Romeo/Juliet romance, but we'll have to see if my characters let me.

Hi, I'm an eighteen year old Christian girl who is a Sophmore in college but is still crazy enough to join NaNo. I would really like to be adopted by someone who can help me stay on track and guide through my first NaNo, which is also my first novel.

I live in northern Alabama, and will probably do most of my writing while I am at college between classes because I have them really spread out and have like five hours to write in.

I am writing a fantasy novel. My stories tend to have romantic angle, but I don't write anything overtly sexual. I like the idea of prophecy and how it effects the lives of several characters.

My novel that I am working on a very complicated midieval fantasy story set in my own world. I have a bunch of different characters, including the woman who was suposed to be the mother of a chosen hero but her life was saved by a ranger and is now on the run from people who want to force/rush the prophecy to come true, three children of the dead king vying for the throne, and another group of nobles trying to break off from the nation while it is in disarray. Several of them are bound by a prophecy that they may or may not know about. There are also some plotlines about some invaders from the north and another race in some unexplored regions that may be threatening the nation. I am trying to sort all of this out into a workable chapter outline in the remaining week before NaNo.

My name is the same as my username. I am 17, 18 in November 9th. I live in the United States in Kentucky. Right now, I have only a bunch of vivid bunched ideas and I am looking to get it published someday. It's going to be an adventure novel about a knight who goes through an epic journey basically.

Hello,
My Name is Brittany. I'm 16, and currently residing in New Hampshire, USA.
I'm very excited about making this sojurn into finishing an entire novel.
The genera of my novel is along the lines of Young Adult... but edgy. *sigh* I guess we'll see.
My story idea is that of a young girl in high school whose mother dies and leaves her with a drive to become popular. She then makes some very poor choices in her quest to become wanted. (That is a very rough guess at this point)
Thank you,
Brittany.

Hello!
I recently turned 15 (about 3 months ago. It seems so much longer!). This is my first year attempting to do anything of this scale. I've written before, but have most motivation after a few weeks. (I've actually gotten to keep writing for a new months on story. However... I dropped it and hope to get back to it after I finish this.).

I'm surrounded by desert for miles around. I currently live in a big city, but often go back to see my parents in a small community that sits close to some mountains. It gets dark way to early here in New Mexico. However, the sunny days are worth it.

Currently, I am settling on doing a fiction story set in the place of my roots. A small village in Poland. I've heard so many stories from my parents that it just feels right. This whole story is a new experience. It's set in a place I've only seen as a toddler. Some words are in a language I've long forgotten, and the characters are an age I wish I was. (The MC is only 9!).

Hey everyone! My name is Jessica, and I'm living in Waterloo, Ontario right now. Just here for school; I'm 19 and a second year Sociology student at Wilfrid Laurier University. I'm originally from a pretty small town about an hour away, though.

This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo, so I'm nervous, but really excited and would love a mentor to help me get through it! My novel is a chick lit, called Step by Step. It's basically about this rich promiscuous teenager, who ends up getting pregnant. Despite never have any sort of relationship with her parents, they kicked her out over that. The rest of the story is then her trying to adjust to not only needing to work and cook and provide for herself for the first time, but also deal with the fact she's having a baby.

Salut salut! My name's Katryne, and this is my first attempt at the 50K wordcount craziness this November. I never completely know what I'm writing about until I sit down and type a few pages, since there are so many things trotting around in my head all at once. I mostly work of images and sensations and moods. So far I think I'm well into a fiction novel, with two late-teen / early-twenties main characters. I'm almost certain is will involve some religious undertones and will most likely devolve into full on fantasy, but we'll see.

I'm 17, and live in Montreal, Quebec. I'm currently in CEGEP (which is Quebec for college) studying arts and culture. I have a lot of time in between assignments and essays to agonise over NaNoWriMo, and will commit as much of that time on it as possible. I'm also somewhat of a gamer. My current indulgence is Uncharted 2. However, I do have a game-encyclopedia of a brother and can talk wildly about games I don't even know for a while.

I'd need someone to mentor me who has a sense of humour and who is comfortable with silence as I think about things excessively and sometimes can get distracted. I'd love to have a mentor there to word war with, to speak to, to hear advice from, but mostly to make it so its that much clearer that I'm not the only one this insane. =D

Hey, everyone! I'm Bailey, and this is my first ever attempt at NaNoWriMo, yet alone actually completing a story this long. I'm hoping to at least hit 25k, if not the 50k goal. My story plot is already well built; I just need to work out details. I'm classifying it as an "other genre" because it has a little bit of everything. My plot idea came from three sources: a friend's idea, Men in Black, and Tron (the last two being movies).

I am 13 and I live in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia. I'm really overloaded with school (eight classes every day) so I won't have much time to write, so I'm trying to get a head start in October. I also have sports and staying in shape to think about, so NaNo might be put on the back burner.

My ideal mentor is someone who isn't afraid to speak their mind on my ideas and who doesn't care if I lash out and curse at them. I need someone who will stand strong in their opinions and who also has a good grip with grammar--my weak point. I also want to be able to laugh with them/at them/have them laugh at me, because a little humor never hurts. Dealing with silence is also needed--school is hard, especially with sports, so my main internet access comes from my iPhone. Which sucks for sending messages.

Er, here goes.

So! I'm 23, in Toronto (Ontario, Canada), and this is my first time actually participating in NaNoWriMo, though I'm somewhat familiar with it from years past and just never really put aside the time to try.

My genre is, mainly, (alternate) historical fiction, but with a fair amount of (theologically) supernatural/fantasy elements as well. The novel itself is my attempt to distill years of research notes into something actually workable... and readable... and perhaps, inshallah, one day sell-able.

Specifically, this year I will be working on 'The Artifice of Eternity', which focuses on the Ottoman Empire during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, examining the attempted reforms of Selim III and the Ottoman reaction to the political turmoil in Europe.

Hi everyone, my name is Guy and this is my first Nanowrimo.

I'm 18 and a freshman at college. I tried writing a novel over summer but I found out that I was not a good enough writer to do my story justice. I have a lot of easy classes and no exams in November, so upon hearing about Nanowrimo in October I signed up. I plan on doing an easier novel to gain technical skill and hopefully have a transformative experience.

I'm in Tallahassee as an FSU student, so if you're around there that's cool, but we have a lot of writing resources on campus, so I'm looking for a mentor to help me more with the actual process of Nanowrimo and give advice and encouragement. I aim to win this. I'm not a very good writer (science major), but I enjoy writing nonfiction, and want to leave my box and do something new. I also am starting to recognize that writing is the most important academic skill, so developing finesse in that area would serve me well. Hopefully, I can develop as a person and writer next month.

I'd like to write literary fiction, but I suspect that this novel will end up being more in line with commercial fiction. There are no sci-fi/fantasy/romance elements, so it is definitely mainstream contemporary fiction.

My novel is about a group of strangers who murder someone and share with each other their stories. They describe how their motives developed, how they feel about themselves, and the cognitive effects of planning and executing a murder. Hopefully it is psychological, character-probing, and philosophical, but I would settle for a plot-driven story, depending on how I go. I haven't outlined yet, so everything is kind of under construction, but I only thought of my idea this week, so it is not my fault.

Thank you for mentoring me if you take on the project. I am a bit of a procrastinator, but I have lots of free time so I am certain it is possible for me to write. Unfortunately, I am struggling to find a space to write; my roommate is very loud and never leaves the room, even when on his cellphone. There is no reasoning with him, so I have to find somewhere else to go, which is very inconvenient, but will hopefully keep me more on task.

Greetings,

I'm Daniel, I'm 16 years old and looking for a devoted die-hard Nanowrimo mentor. I really enjoy writing and even could be considered a fanatic. I am in need of someone to tell me where what I am writing falls on the mediocracy scale. I am trying a teen/young adult novel for my first year. This is going to be a fictitious account of my real battle with a birth defect known as Cerebral Palsy.

I would prefer a mentor who has MSN messenger and is going to be on a lot during November.

Hello! I am a 44 year old in Shelton, Washington, looking for any help I can get! I just found out about NaNoWriMo a few days ago and decided to give it a shot. I have never had any desire to write a novel before. I do write poetry, but I am doing so after a twenty year hiatus. It started with an agreement last January to try to write just ten minutes a day and has blossomed into almost an obsession. A good obsession! I do not know what I will write a week from now... I could either be your dream mentoree, taking in every word, submissively sitting at your feet (HA! Don't lay bets on that!) or a huge nightmare whining and needing constant hand holding (I wouldn't actually bet on that one either). Please e-mail me if you can help steer me along! I would especially appreciate gentle nudges in the right direction as we count down to the first words...

Hey all! I am throwing myself right into this process with just about a week to go before NaNo starts, so, without any further ado, I offer myself as a Newbie for adoption.

I'm Max, 20 year old guy from Brooklyn, New York. My novel's going to be something vaguely resembling literary fiction, in terms of genre. I'm hoping to do some experimentation with narrative structure, dialogue and multiple points-of-view, in keeping with the general "theme", if you will, of my novel. I'm planning on focusing a lot of attention on communication, how/why it happens (or doesn't happen), what it means for two people to be able/unable to communicate... (I'm an English major/creative writing minor; can you tell?) As far as an actual plot goes? Well, I'm not entirely sure. I'm considering a series of related vignettes, or possibly a couple of intertwined plotlines that alternate chapters... I've got a few ideas bouncing around my head, but I'm honestly just so excited about NaNo that I can't decide yet.

If that doesn't sound like too much of a mess, I eagerly await adoption!

I've made a huge mistake.

Hey! My name's Nikki, I'm 21 and I just moved to Los Angeles. I study film and anthropology. My favorite genres are Sci-Fi, horror, and speculative fiction. I haven't really outlined any full ideas yet, but knowing me this novel is likely to be speculative fiction/sci-fi with a dark sense of humor. I'd love to have a mentor/writing buddy/just someone to bounce ideas off of.

A few of my short stories are linked at the top of http://nixg.tumblr.com

Hi! I'm Sarah

I'm a twenty-year-old college student majoring in English Lit with a minor in 3D Studio Art. I live in a urban area in the midwst US. I work as a library minion and in my free time I like to sculpt. This is my first Nano and I have never written anything remotely close to 50,000 words.

As I have done very little writing, I cannot claim any particular genre.

My prospective novel is called "the solemn-eyed." I categorised it under mainstream fiction for lack of a more fitting genre. It is a combination of fairy tale fantasy and realism. It follows the story of a small child who invents a fantasy world as a way to cope with her difficult home-life.

I am a hard core procrastinator and I could use someone who can remind me that I cannot write an entire novel over the weekend before the 30th. That being said, I am also very driven and will put my all into finishing nano. Also, any noveling advice, encouragement, conversation, etc. would be very much welcomed.

If you're interested in adopting me send me a pm! (makes wide-eyed, irresistable, sad puppy face)

Hi

I'm a Newbie and a Nano Rebel, am continuing to work on a WIP, but will only count the actual new words i write in November.

Are you my mentor??

My novel is a mix up of Fantasy and SF, two realms one extreamly high teck, the other dark ages fantasy. An armagedon style war rages across both, both sides claim to be 'the saviour of the universe'. The story is told through the eyes of Carelle, a self exiled changling, she has to decide which side she will join, and she has the power to make her side win. Deception, intregue and romance follow. Which side is truely good? and which is truely evil? Should she side with her father the Eternal Emperor or her brother the Rebel Prince? Either way her heart will be broken but only one side can mend it again...

When I've finished writing you can find out....
