I mentioned food in the Webster thread, but thought it might be handy to bring up in general as well. I was thinking that with Nano it's fun to go out to eat a bit more, to have less clean up to do at home. So I thought it would be fun to share favorite places to eat. What's nice and quick when short on time, what has really tasty food, what is just that great atmosphere that you can enjoy a nice leisurely meal while getting some great character ideas thanks to the other customers?

For Japanese food, I went to Fujia in Webster for the first time this week. I wasn't tons hungry, so I just had an order of shrimp/veggie rolls with some miso soup. Both my sushi and the soup were quite good. The service was prompt and while smaller, the setup of the restaurant was nice. They do also have various appetizers, and entries, so they are more than just a sushi place.

For hamburgers and hots, Don's by Seabreeze is good, it's fun to sit at the long counter with other dinners while eating. This time of year it's pretty fast service. They do have some other items in addition to the burgers and hots, and also some good sides. Their onion rings are wonderful. (The other Don's Originals are good as well, the menus vary a bit by location as does the atmosphere.)

Another place I enjoy, is Fairport Village coffee - I think they the Lift-bridge Cafe now. I love their Paninis, and their coffee selection is great as well. It's a nice relaxed atmosphere, to unwind when the noveling is getting rough, or just to enjoy some good food and drink.

I'm sure there is more I can mention, which I'll add on when I think of it.

So what places do you all like to eat at?

For Chinese food I always go to Chen Garden in Brighton. Fabulous food, huge portions and really well priced. It is very busy during the evening and on Fridays and Saturday nights you may want to call ahead. The lunch specials are the best. You get tea, soup, and your meal for about $7 and it is enough to feed me twice.

For Mexican I really like El Parian on W. Henrietta Rd (across from Abbott's and in the Kohl's parking lot). The service is really nice, the dishes reasonably priced and the chimichangas are delicious. They also have some of the smoothest refried beans I've ever had. Sadly though, they changed the recipe on a few of the items, such as the carnitas and while still good, isn't nearly as good as it was before.

In Suburban plaza (where the DMV is in Henrietta) there is a little place called Bob's diner. You feel like you stepped back in time when you walk in. Again, the prices are really reasonable and both breakfast and lunch are quite tasty. Aside from the friendly service, the best part about this place is that they have batter dipped onion rings instead of breaded!

Okay, I'll bite (no pun...well, yes, pun intended):

I'm with Robin: Chen Garden is awesome. I'll also let you in on what I think is still a secret: SEA. It's at the corner of Monroe and Rutgers, sort of -- I can't remember the exact name of the street it's at the corner of. It's near Hollywood Wine & Liquor, kitty-corner to it. They have bowls of pho (Vietnamese soup) for $5.50 that will BLOW YOUR MIND. They're huge bowls, and for my wife and I to eat, the bill has never been more than $30. And that's including two apps AND two sodas.

For BBQ, I recommend heading way out to Spencerport and going to Taste of Texas. It is fabulous. Good-sized portions, and you can tell they actually care about the BBQ.

For pizza, I have yet to be disappointed by Little Venice in the Southwedge (on South Avenue).

For burgers, the #1 spot(s) in Rochester is Five Guys. I used to eat their burgers when I visited Washington DC -- now there's three locations up here and they are THE BEST BURGERS YOU CAN GET AROUND HERE. The only burgers I've ever had better were Shake Shack in NYC, or In-N-Out in California.
