I have been checking out a lot of different profiles - trying to get a feel for what people listen to while they write. Turns out I am not the only one who doesn't want to be distracted by lyrics. Some of you have pretty varying tastes. I mostly am attracted to something with a Celtic vibe or epic feel. But there is a lot out there I haven't been exposed to, and would be interested in hearing – but don’t necessarily have the cash to invest in the new experience.
What I propose is a music swap. I was thinking at write ins for those of us with laptops we could pass our personal USB drive around and get music dumped on it, and then download it later. But if that doesn’t work we could also do a burnt CD swap too. I personally like the USB because then I don’t have to go looking for artist name and song titles to burnt CD’s. I propose doing this at write ins that way no one has to go without there USB drive while someone takes it home to dump the music on - wich kind of limits it to laptop users- but if you are okay with parting with your USB drive then by all means bring it on in.
Anyways, if anyone has a better idea of how to implement this by all means throw them out there.
Also, I would appreiate feed back to know if you are interested in this kind of thing. I think it's a great opportunity to widen your musical horizons for free.
Thanks.
- Julia

This is a great idea Julia. A music swap has been attempted both of the last couple of years without much success. Not sure of the reason two years ago, but last year there was a blizzard that night.
I figure we can do a music swap at one of the write-ins, bring extras copies later. I know a CD isn't your preferred option, and I do tend to lean toward MP3s myself, but not everyone has a laptop and we have to try to accomodate somehow. Maybe burn 5-10 CDs, and bring it on your USB stick. Then we'll be clear either way.
I think Nov 18th's write-in at The Fromagerie would be a good time to make the swap. The place is quiet and clear enough to keep swapping from getting mixed up, and it's just past the halfway point of the month where people may be getting tired of their collection, and it's before what I hope will become a major write-in on the 21st when we'll need all the music we can get.
What does everyone else think?

Potential solution to all issues mentionned to date: everyone can just burn mp3 CDs instead of "music CDs". No looking for song titles/artists, no worries about the people who don't have laptops, no need to lend out USB keys. Just a suggestion.
Also, I'm totally in. :)

Beautiful idea. I didn't know you could burn MP3 CD's until it was mentioned. With MP3 players and such I haven't had much use for CDs.
thanks

Cool. I wanted to participate in this last year when Sylvie suggested it, but it was so last minute I had no way or time to think about burning some music.
I like the idea of just copying the MP3s to CD/DVD (Or USB) and swapping it that way.
How many songs is a good sampler? 20-ish?

This a double post. Perfectly un-musical. Perfectly annoying.

I think this is a wonderful idea! I've quite a collection of music I'd be willing to share. If it's being done on the 18th I won't be able to make it there until just before eight, but I'm definitely in if I can be.
