So I spent the other evening putting together a track list of music to help inspire me throughout November, and I had a lot of fun doing it! I've always either written in silence or to classical or other instrumental soundtracks in the past, but I thought I'd try something new this year.

As I mentioned, I'm writing a sort-of superhero story. Here is a list of tracks I've come up with so far over on projectplaylist.com.

• Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
• Theme from Superman (Main Title) - John Williams
• Superman - Goldfinger
• Hero - Chad Kroeger (feat. Josey Scott) Various Artists
• Spiderman theme song - spiderman
• Lullaby - The Cure
• Save Me - Remy Zero Various Artists
• The Batman Theme - Danny Elfman
• Turtle Power - Partners in Kryme Various Artists
• The Incredits - Michael Giacchino
• Go, Go Power Rangers - Various Artists
• X-Men 2 Main Title - John Ottman
• Buffy the vampire slayer – Nerf Herder
• Angel Opening Title Theme - Darling Violetta
• One Winged Angel (Sephiroths theme from Final Fantays VII) - Nobuo Uematsu
• He-man main theme
• She-Ra Princess Of Power main theme
• He's A Pirate - Klaus Badelt
• Sidekick - Rancid
• Waitin' For A Superman - Flaming Lips
• Iron Man - Black Sabbath
• So Long, Superman - Firewater
• (Ghost) Riders in the Sky - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
• Superman - REM
• Heroes - Wallflowers
• Superman - Crash Test Dummies
• The Ballad of Barry Allen - Jim's Big Ego
• Made Of Steel - Our Lady Peace
• Sunshine Superman - Donovan
• Particle Man - They Might Be Giants

Feel free give me any suggestions to add, and share with us your own playlist! Or CD, or station or whatever it is you use to music. Or if you prefer silence, or TV, or the humming of a fan to help you work.

What are YOU listening to this November?

A lot of Abney Park and Vernian Process, I think. I've a lasf.fm and a pandora, so it's not like I'll be at the mercy of winamp all month. Probably some Bach and stuff for when I can't think through the lyrics anymore.

Honestly, my playlist is mostly the stuff I listen to year-round anyway - a very eccentric mix of music! Mostly there's a lot of indie rock, J-Pop, and Celtic music, with a mix of techno and some random songs I just really happen to like. Though this year I seem to be favoring a lot of Kimya Dawson, Ani DiFranco, and Death Cab for Cutie - as well as up-and-coming artist Jess Chalker, whom you should all check out - www.jesschalker.com - she is amazing!

Though now I'm curious to put together a playlist for songs that seem to best fit my characters and the theme of the story... I might have to do that!

Found some good stuff for this one-- Shiva in Exile, Raxa, Qntal, and Irfan. I'm collecting as many songs as I can, trying to get through with month with a better collection than I went into it!

Right now I don't have that many songs, but I'm working on putting together a playlist of songs that either remind me of my story, my characters, or just encourage me to write.

Headstrong by Trapt
Mulan Reflection by Christian Aguilara
I Stand Alone by Godsmack
Bad by Michael Jackson
What I’ve Done by Linkin Park
Damn Regret by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Mysterious Times by Sash ft. Tina Cousins
Falling Inside the Black by Skillet
The Last Night by Skillet
All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me) by Bullet for My Valentine
Broken by Seether ft. Amy Lee
SOS by ABBA
See Who I Am by Within Temptation
Frozen by Within Temptation
Vermillion by Slipknot
Witchqueen of Eldorado by Modern Talking
Fireflies by Owl City

I stole Fireflies from someone else, but ended up really liking it and it reminded me of happier times in my novel. We'll see what else pops up.

Yay for Firefiles (which you likely stole from me from the Theme Song post). I agree, it's just a feel-good tune.

I'll write down the basics to my playlist.
There's a lot of songs, but these are the ones I use the most.

"Every Time You Kiss Me" by Emily Bindiger
"Dance of Curse" by Yoko Kanno
"Reprise" by Joe Jisaishi
"Nocturne for Orchestra" by Hirano Yoshihisa
"The Alchemic World" by Ooshima Michiru
"Parade" by Susumu Hirasawa
"Guns and Roses" by Paradise Lunch
"Strange Names" by Yuki Kajiura
"Tsubasa" by FictionJunction Kaori
"Witch" by Yuki Kajiura
"Raising Fighting Spirit" by Toshiro Masuda

As you can see, it's all not English, except the first one.
I can't stand listening to songs with words I can understand while writing.

Just had a breakthrough.... I made a playlist that is entirely instrumental songs. By including classical AND techno it is varied enough to not become a lullaby. But I can type really fast and not get distracted by words. So, yeah, I highly recommend creating an instrumental playlist.
