Greetings, all.

Since we're so spread out, we probably can't all get together in the same place, though I will post a Northern Kentucky location on the calendar for any Virtual Write ins I plan to host away from home. Because so much of our support has to be virtual, I have been thinking about things that have helped me in the past, and I share them now for whatever they're worth. I hope others will chime in with ideas, too.

1. Spend the last couple of non-wordcount weekends scoping out good local writing hangouts in your town. Knowing you have a place where the dishes are not piling up and the bed is not calling you can be very helpful to building wordcount. You can also use the time doing some of the pre-writing suggestions in No Plot? No Problem! The listing of things you love and things you hate in novels is one I plan to try.

2. If you have a live journal account, think about joining some of the communities there that offer support and a slightly lower wordcount goal. I am a member of Wrisomifu (commit to 10 minutes a day) and Mininanowrimo (set your own daily goal of at least 100 words.) Both help me get past the painful starting minutes, and they force me to write every day. Before I know it, I'm on a roll and can develop momentum. Mininanowrimo also has daily pictures and quote prompts that might inspire you. Check them out.

3. Anybody want to do a Virtual Kickoff Party Halloween afternoon? Hardin County is having a live party from 12-2 p.m.-- would anyone there be willing to get in the chatroom and tell the rest of us how it's going? I''ll probably be online from 12-1 a.m. (both hours) getting off to a good start, if anyone wants to chat me then.

4. Add some of the wrimos you see on this region's posts to your "Writing Buddies" list, and send them Nanomail when you see them struggling or doing well in wordcount. As a recipient of some encouraging mail, I can tell you it makes a difference.

What ideas do you have?

Your ML, who really should be grading papers right now,

I would get on the chat, but you have to help me to know how to get there.
I'm going, I'll actually be there a bit early to a bit more peaceful writing.
I can't wait!
