I am excited to announce the first annual LocoFoCo Night of Writing Dangerously Write-a-thon. Although all people in the surrounding areas which includes Greeley are welcome to join us. College America has graciously donated their space to us for free which means that all the money we raise will go to the Office of Letters and Light (OLL) in the name of the Fort Collins region. I am hoping we will raise $1000. I know ambitious but I believe we can do it.
The Fundraiser will be Saturday, November 14th from 8pm to 2am, at College America 4601 S Mason St, Fort Collins, CO 80525. There will be 6 hours of crazy writing. I have created a Fundraiser letter for you and as soon as I can I will link a copy to this forum posting. The letter explains the purpose of our fundraiser and how a sponsor can donate. They can either make a flat donation or a donation that will be multiplied by the hours you write that night. We cannot give receipts for this for tax purposes.
Download the fundraiser letter/form at SendSpace.com.
I would ask that if they give a flat donation and can give the donation up front that would be great, bring it to the fundraiser and we will all be able to see the Fundraiser Thermometer fill up on the night of the write-a-thon. For those that are donating by time the money will be collected after the fundraiser night when you have logged your writing hours, rounded off to the closest quarter hour.
I would like to give prizes away to those who are at the fundraiser, so if you have leads for gift certificates or other ideas please give me a heads up. Prizes will be raffled off.
For food and drinks to keep us going it will be a potluck. If we don't cater it means more money for the OLL.
This is an event to RSVP to. Just post to this forum when you have raised your first $5 in sponsorships. Also let us know what dish you are going to bring to the potluck so that we don't have 30 versions of the same dish.
If you are unable to attend but want to help out consider sponsoring someone else that is attending.
Since the National version of this fundraiser is as a costume party I would like to follow in their footsteps, I was going to decide on the theme myself but decided I would rather let you vote as a region the option with the most votes by the 7th of November will win. Option A) Come as a character from your novel, Option B) come as your favorite character from a book, or Option C) which is follow the national theme and come as a noir character. Let the voting begin. Even after a choice is made costumes will be optional.
And for the last item, as we get closer to the time of the Fundraiser I will be looking for volunteers to help set-up and clean-up.
I hope this turns out to be a fun tradition for all involved.
If people want to write a check have it made out to the OLL (office of letters and light.)

Love this idea. Count me in. I have my first $5/hr sponsorship from my wife, who already suffers my absences through the month of November and figures she might as well pay for the privilege. I may be able to get some beverage coupons from Cappuccino Corner as give-aways as well. They've helped me out in the past with cycling events. Will check Monday. Would be the first time I met the FC crowd ... unless of course I'm the only one there, typing away next to my pumpkin pie well past midnight while dressed as Mole from "Wind in the Willows" ... a pathetic image. Don't let it happen.

I'm so excited for this! I'm kind of leaning toward dressing as a character from my book, but Jay tells me that's cheating 'cause my lead character is a cowgirl. Could be cheating, but at least I'd be comfortable. :)
I'm not sure what we'll be bringing to the potluck, but I can assure you it will be yummy. As soon as we get it figured out, I'll post it. Is there a fee for us to join, or are we going to get sponsored, or both?

You can either just put up the $5 yourself or get sponsors a mix of both will probably result in more money for the fundraiser.

I think this sounds like it could be super fun!
----------As your local mountain hermit I'm willing to crawl out of the forest and join in the festivities, but only with my standard caveat: if it snows I'll be absent in all but spirit. I've already got a sponsor and someone willing to lend me a hand in the dessert realm for potluck yumminess. As far as costumes, well, as I'm writing a post-apocalyptic novel I'll probably just show up looking like myself since I already look the part: somewhat addled and wind-blown. ;)

This will be my first year as a participant in NaNoWriMo and the Night of Writing Dangerously. I can put up the $5 or 10 for the donation, and I'm thinking I can bring chocolate chip/ginger bars. Anything else I need to be doing?

I'm happy to say I've gotten my first few sponsors. So now I can attend. I'm going to bring shrimp and okra gumbo. I thought it fitting since I'm writing a novel about zombies partially set in the south.

I'll be coming! I'm terrible in the kitchen though. I hold the family record for screwing up the Christmas fudge in some way. Three years running! But I can make pretty decent chocolate chip cookies, so I'll bring those. ;)
As for the vote, I'm for option A, dressing as a character from our books. Have no idea how I'll pull that off. Assassins really are very particular about what they wear, but it should be fun. :P
Oh and I'll bring 5 or 10 bucks for the fundraiser.

Okay everyone we are getting close to the halfway mark event and it is a great one for you to use if you are behind. A six hour write-a-thon. So do a little fundraising and come write with others and make some money for NaNo while you're at it then everyone will be a winner.

Jay and I will be there. Probaby with some chicken and sausage jambalaya and corn bread (oh, I love me some corn bread). I've also contacted Healing Arts Institute to see if they've got any students interested in giving chair massages that night. If they do decide to send a couple of students over (they have to do so many hours of "free" massage for their certification), they'll have a tip jar available.
As soon as I get the confirmation from HAI, I'll post it so we can squirrel away our ones that we're not donating to NaNo for tip.

I have my first sponsor! I would love to attend.
I have no idea what I will cook. Maybe some hearty oatmeal cookies? I could bring sandwiches? I am not sure really.
For costume preferences, I vote a character from my novel.

I'm planning to attend. I'll bring chips and Rotel-Velveeta dip, and some bottled water. I probably won't wear a costume, unless comfy sweats and slippers count as a costume of some sort. :)

I'm more than willing to be there for emotional and sugar support. I'll bring a lot of cookies and $10 for the fundraiser.
Then I can get a lot of work done and be closer to 50K than I am already (inching up on 20K)

Sad news...Healing Arts Institute has changed their policies and won't be able to provide us with massage students afterall. Bummer. We've always been able to work with them in the past.
I am looking forward to Saturday, massage or no massage :)

UPDATE- This Night of Writing Dangerously is open to all Wrimo's in northern Colorado who can raise at least $1 for NaNoWriMo. Show up if you can (even if you forget to RSVP), if you are unable to come consider giving a donation to someone else who is attending or wanting to attend. Let's come together as the writing champions we are and make a difference. Plus there are prizes that will be raffled off during the night. Come join us for a great night of fun at the halfway point of the novelling month.

Prismac, over in the tips for reaching 50,000 words forum, had a BRILLIANT idea.
----------Get a glow stick, crack it open, and write until it stops glowing.
I don't know if you want to try to incorporate this into the sat night write in, but it could be cool with a whole building to do it in. And after being done writing, impromptu dancing :-) I think it sounds like a RAVE idea (pun lol lol lol).
Or at the very least maybe some other write in night. Just throwing it out there.
So sad I won't be able to make this one, but I'll definitely be there in spirit, and try to write the whole time from where I am.
Best

Some will be coming in costume and the theme that appears to have won out is come as one of the characters from your book, but costumes are not mandatory.
