Dear Philly and surrounding outstanding attached Locales--

It appears that from the "How are you preparing" posts, that we're cracking our knuckles, cutting into our characters' skulls and outlining, researching and doing just about everything else.
So, how about we add an incentive--state-wide bragging rights--to our preparations and writing during the month:
According to the 2008 breakdown
see them here http://graphing.teiru.net/2008/regions/
provided by NewMexicoKid
Philadelphia placed 42nd in total word count, behind both Pittsburg and the Elsewhere regions of Pennsylvania. Our individual average word count was much much higher (we really smoked them), but they had more people submitting word counts which is why ranked lower than them in total word count.
As of right now--
Philadelphia has 203 wrimos
PA Elsewhere has 194 wrimos
Pittsburgh has 228 wrimos

How about we challenge these two to a three sided word war? What say you Philadelphians?

I vote yes. Let's show the pop-drinkers how it's done.

If I make it to 10,000 words, it'll be a 1,000 % increase from last year. I can live with that.

Thanks for all the positive response. I didn't want to have a secret war, but I would have if it had come to that. Anyway, the following is the email challenge I sent to the MLs of Pittsburgh and Elsewhere PA:

Subject: Care Thy Region to a Word War?

Hello Fellow Pennsylvanians--
I bid you greetings from the Great, Magnificent WriMos of Philadelphia who have been humbled by your most splendid showing in the NaNoWriMo of ought-eight. Your total word count truly exceeded ours.
But that, as they say, was last year .
I, as the emissary of the most Opulent, Glorious WriMos of Philadelphia, hereby do throw the gauntlet down, triple the triple dog dare, challenge you to a Pennsylvania Word War.
At stake, crowing rights over the grand land that is Pennsylvania.
What say you outlanders? Shall we call you poultry tonight? Or, will you face our word fury? (Please, if you are running for the hills, mind the small children and those who cannot run fast. We will neither scoff nor sneer at your quickly receding backs. For we know that you know that we know that you know having looked into our eyes as we looked into yours that we know more words and are not afraid to use them.)
I bid you good eve, fair friends, and eagerly await your reply.
Yours in WriMo,
Amy

Well played, Fair Maiden Amy!

Let's see what they do... I went to Pitt, so I know those people can be spunky when challenged.

So um I belong to both Philadelphia and Elsewhere, lol. (and I also belong to Bucks County) (the joys of living in monto, working in bucks county, and going home to northern montco/berks/chester county area that classifies as elsewhere).

I know Elsewhere just accepted the challenge, the ML sent out the welcome email just a bit ago.

I look forward to the challenge :)

I'm in or as in as I can be. Hopefully I won't disappoint myself or everyone else with my word count. I've got my fingers crossed (only when I'm not typing) to hit the 50k mark this year finally.

Believe me, no one's more surprised at this early success as a first timer than I am! I honestly didn't expect to have done as well as I have so far. I guess it helps to have a halfway decent story idea, and the words have flowed. I just have to keep up the pace as the days roll on!

I'm behind in my word count and don't want to let the team down. But I'm not hopelessly behind. So, I'd like to issue a challenge to those of us who are behind in our daily quota that by Sunday we are caught up. I think I saw a write in at 20th and Chestnut this Sunday. Exactly where I live so I will try to be there. I was going to look up the time but the Nano site is a little slow so if it is afternoon or evening, I'll see ya. I work in the AM.
